"How do you go from what we have been taught all our lives to believing in hell, and going to heaven ? "
I know that I couldn't go in that direction. I went to a Catholic service this past Sunday. Strange, really, since I consider myself agnostic/atheist. However, I wanted to experience it. I met some nice people and nothing was forced on me. Different from the Witnesses, yet, strangely familiar. Perhaps you can just enjoy the social aspect of that church. Nothing says you have to believe everything that they do. If you want to be a Christian, just tell the ladies that you accept Christ as your savior, and they'll probably be delighted about that.

Two nice christian ladys want to mentor me ........
by troubled mind ini have met some very nice people at a local methodist church during one of our conversations a woman told me they offer a program called soul care for anyone going through a tough time .it is a program to encourage basically .
when i told her i felt i had lost my whole social community since leaving the jw's she offered to mentor me in this program .
we had a first meeting to kind of get to know each other .....it just felt so weird, like being the householder on the other side of our bible study program we did as witnesses .

Watchtower spins quote from seismologist, October 1 Pubic Edition.
by Open mind inoctober 1, pubic edition, page 7. .
"if it seems to you that now more people than ever before are affected by earthquakes, you are correct.
'suddenly we are seeing a spurt in seismic activity globally," observed indian seismologist r. k. chadha in 2007.

For what it is worth, I heard similar things from Fundamentalist Christians even when I was a JW. I recall once talking to a man who believed that Hell exists within the Earth, and earthquakes are a sign of an expanding Hell. He cited some research project that had recorded the screams of Hell when they drilled a hole into the mantle somewhere. lol!

I recall making a Mother's Day card at school. Of course, my mom later that day tried to explain to me why that was wrong. And of course, I accepted that explanation without complaint, as I did with everything else I was told when I was a child. I think that the worst time I had was in music class. For whatever reason the music teacher couldn't fathom why I wouldn't sing certain songs in class. I was a high strung child, so I was always on the verge of tears whenever a situation was beyond my routine experience. The conflicting messages between authority figures, parents on the one hand and teachers on the other, was very confusing to me at that young age.
Yes, I survived. No, I don't think it was good for my social development. I suppose there has to be some allowances made for different religions. After all, would you offer a Jewish kid a ham sandwich? Most of us see nothing wrong with eating pork, but Jews and Muslims would be quite offended by that. That said, I completely understand the frustration of the daycare teacher. However, like others have said, the situation could have been handled more effectively if parents and caregivers had coordinated arrangements. I think the greater part of the blame in this instance lays with the parents for their failure to plan ahead for the inevitable holiday and birthday celebrations with the caregivers.

Edited to add: Like I said in the previous post, it is not well researched. If you want perspectives on what is wrong with the world, well there is no shortage of books describing what is wrong with Civilization written by famous authors. Unfortunately, a flashy documentary has greater appeal than a stack of books. The solution presented in Z:A is laughable. Is this guy serious?!

The whole notion that the world's governments can somehow destroy religion is ridiculous. Furthermore, there is no basis for the Watchtower to compare the religions of today's world with the ancient city of Babylon. Think about this: the combined efforts of all the worlds governments haven't even been able to eliminate the global trade in illegal drugs. How are they supposed to outlaw something as intangible as faith? Sure, some governments treat religious organizations like businesses and tax them because many of them are in fact businesses. Outright bans are not effective either. How many Baptists, Methodists, or Catholics would take the banning of their faith just sitting down??
You are wasting your time (and life) waiting for a proclamation that will never be made. The sooner you realize that the Watchtower Society is itself a false religion, the better you will feel. IMO, any religion that feeds off the fear of its followers is a "false" religion.

If the economy is tanking ......why is gas...
by yknot inwhy is gas dropping in price?.
it was $3.69 three weeks ago and now it is $2.85.. not complaining but it seems kinda fishy.

Word on the street is that there will be recession in the economy, so the traders figure on decreased demand for petroleum products in the coming months. Also, it seems that the media focus has shifted from fear of oil supply disruption (for example: possible attack on Iran and hurricanes in the gulf) to fear of credit markets freezing up. Institutions facing cash flow problems may have to liquidate their positions on the commodities markets. If that happens enough, commodities such as crude oil futures will drop in price. So, we could see even lower prices before too long.
However, lest we forget that what goes down can also go back up. We may very well be at the all time historic peak in conventional crude oil production. A near term recession could mask the symptoms of the start of global oil production decline. It could also discourage much needed exploration and development of new reserves to replace fields already in decline (example: Cantarell in Mexico; North Sea). Depletion is inevitable, but a smoother decline curve may help the transition to a steady state economy.
Consider the drop in gas prices to be a short reprieve while still making plans for a future less dependent on oil.

How Pathetic Are Jehovah's Witnesses?

This was my reply to the question:
One of the posters answered: "if your here to criticize, you need to take it to the society"
I think what we have here is a key issue for people who are Jehovah's Witnesses. The fact is the Society, as it is commonly known among the Witnesses, is a human institution just like the United Nations, the Catholic Church, or Bank of America. Like any human institution it is completely fallible and self serving. Any honest appraisal of its history and actions aside from its own self serving public relations message will lead people to question its motives and especially its claim to be guided by Holy Spirit.
A good example of this is the fact that the Society has NEVER directly addressed the issues brought up in the book _Crisis_of_Conscience_ written by former Governing Body member Ray Franz, instead choosing to obliquely warn against so-called "apostates." An honest and direct consideration of these issues would go a long way to reestablishing credibility among critics of the Society. No, the approach taken by the Society itself shows that fear of the truth guides their actions, thereby betraying their claims of divine guidance.
So, why are the questions being deleted? Do some people experience mental discomfort when confronted by ideas that they simply cannot accept? Is it easier to deny that there is an issue with their chosen faith than to honestly address the questions presented and follow the answers to their logical conclusions? Perhaps, only they can really say what goes on in their minds. My answer to this question is simply based on my own experience as a former Witness baptized for 25 years.
To those who would ask, "Where else can we turn to?" I would suggest that you haven't looked deep enough into religion and faith if you believe that the Witnesses have the "truth."
So far I have received two thumbs down, but I am neither surprised or disappointed considering the lack of quality evident in the majority of the "answers" given to your question.
