on the issue of families shunning DF'd ones.. if the DF'd person lives in the house with the rest of the family, you cant just ignore the person, its practically impossible. but when it comes to doing any sort of recreational activity, you'll find that the in house DF'd is left out for the most part. This also depends on whether or not the DF'd person is activly going to meetings and trying to come back.
I was recently DF'd and i live on my own, my dad used to call me several times a week to get together or just talk, i hadnt attended meetings in a long time before this either. but then i was getting DF'd and he called the day of the announcement and asked if i wanted to go to lunch "one last time".. i havnt heard from him since. that was about a month and a half ago.
to say JW's dont shun is ridiculous.. its all an image thing with them, and always will be. They'll do whats wrong in JW standards as long as it doesnt "appear" wrong. dumb.

Great Educational Tool for those studying or thinking of studying with JWS
by sf ini was doing some web surfing and catching up on my reading and came upon a post i hope may help some lurkers and seekers understand better what they are getting themselves into or may have already gotten into, by studying the bible with jws.. i surely hope it is not going against any rule to copy/paste this.
i will not include anything but the text.
i will say though that it is from a longstanding exjw support board that can be found here:.

Took my mom to lunch the other day...
by tall penguin inif you've read my previous posts you'll know that my relationship with my mom has had its ups and downs since i left the org.
while my parents (both jw) still speak to me, the relationship has been strained.
well, this past week i got up the courage to call her and invite her to lunch, something we haven't done since i da'd last august.

I think its really big of you to make the first move and extend the invitation. Before i was DF'd i was out to lunch with my dad and he said that if i was DF'd he wouldnt be able to go out to lunch with me and whatnot.. So the day of my announcment he calls and asks if i want to go out to lunch "one last time". i refused. I'm still really angry about the situation, i guess it takes time and i hope things continue good for you!

What are the new release's for the 2006 conventions?
by The Lone Ranger ini beleive the conventions have started in the usa, in australia they won't start for a few months yet, and i want to show-off to others and show them how spiritual i am hehe.
isn't it stupid how some of them actually think they're more spiritual just because they know the new relelases before others, what a joke!.
thanks in advance people!

as a jw..did you ever have a REAL theological discussion with anyone?
by candidlynuts inthis came up in a conversation with a non witness friend lately.
he said its like i thought i was having theological discussions all the time but from what he could tell...i would go to the door with prearranged comments, which would illicit one of a few comments and my response would be as programmed as the initial comments.
i'm no brainy person.. and freely admit i'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

i agree with fullofdoubtsnow.. When i would here conversations, of practically any subject, i would always immediately think of the WT viewpoint on the subject, and how i felt like i knew every answer or had an explanation for practically everything. Now i look back and hate what i was.

Post your JW demon stories
by M.J. init seems that for jws, the demon thing is one of the few "eyewitness" confirmations of what the wts says.
there seems to be such an atmosphere of confirming testimonials that the jws relate back and forth to each other...but are they factual accounts or simply recycled "urban legends"?.
interestingly, the most dramatic demon stories are nearly always something that happened to someone else.. why is it that jws have seen more "demons" than anyone i've ever known in my life?
-
matey
i've never expierienced anything myself, but when i was younger, something weird would maybe happen and then i would think it was something demonic, when really it was just some weird thing, or i fell asleep for a second and woke back up or something lame like that.. and my friends stories are just as lame, like "i heard creeks in the floor".. After your told so many times that demons will try to fight against you, you cant help but use that excuse for just some weird noise.

The great pyramid
by OneLord inmost people would consider it very wacky to connect the pyramid of gizah with the bible.
russell's claim was that the pyramid, the 1.st wonder of the world, was a witness down the ages containing god's plan.
the teachings and ideas on this seem to be so complex, that few people would spend / waste the time required to study these things.

this whole pyramid thing is new to me.. seems interesting to say the least though..

any of you been treated like this?
by bluebeads ini'd have to say at least 80% of jw's in my area are related in some way or another...kinda makes me feel sick thinking about it.
talk about reproductive anomalies with the gene pool getting so concentrated.... anyways i've noticed that families such as immigrant families or "new" ones who are not related at all to anyone are pretty much left out.
i know family is family... but in the truth isn't every one a "brother" or a "sister".

i'm gonna say every congregation is like that. One of my old halls was pretty much split between two major families, one white, one more black with the occasional mixed marriage of course. then there were the few families that had no family in the hall(like ours), and yes, they get all the scraps.

How do you break them from the mind F**king
by oldflame ini have a tenant, who is a single mother of two in her mid 20's.
i found out the other day that she and her children are studying with the witnesses.
i felt compelled to tell her that i too was an unbaptised publisher but had researched the religion just weeks before baptism.

I don't think it's possible to get through to anyone who isn't already harbouring serious questions. Remember, one of the first things new recruits are taught is that they will receive opposition, both direct and subtle - and that it all comes from the same source - Satan. Anything negative you say to her about the Society could reinforce that.
This was the point i was going to make. She's obviously been taught by her study that any opposition she faces is directly sent from satan and is an apostate, your just proving that to her.
It sucks, but they know what they are doing when it comes to "brain F**king". -

Jehovahs Witnesses - The Peter Pan religion
by truthseeker infirst rutherford said that "millions now living will never die".
then he tells parents they should not have children as the end is so close.. the awake!
1969 says that "young people will never grow old in this system of things.".

the big thing that i feel screwed myself over was the whole "you'll be wasting your time furthering your education" thing. My parents never pushed college, and while i did really good in school up till junior year in high school(still did good, just easy classes:P), the whole college thing was a different world to me. i had no idea how to go about it, where to go, who to talk to, and i put most of the blame on my parents and the org. for not supporting the idea.. but then again, the end is right around the corner, maybe i shouldn't waste my time?!? what bulllshiiiittt
