It's judgment day with mum and dad

well, it's been brewing for a long time and i was getting ready for it, but i've finally gotten the shun-for-life from my folks.

i was going to visit them in a few months and had arranged to see my non-witness grandparents for a few days too, and invited them along.

sounds like your parents are travel agents for guilt trips. when i first began reading the letter, i thought perhaps you did something seriously wrong..drug addiction, murder or homosexuality. what a terrible decision they made and your right, so unnatural. you should of never been put in a position. my two adult children left in their late teens and i never could of quit talking to them. that's one reason i'm not a jw. the only difference between you and those going to the hall is that you are choosing not to live a lie. isn't it interesting that they would be happier if you did though?

God Bless and BIG HUGS. This would be like experiencing the death of both of your parents. How SAD for you and them both. I'm praying the tides will turn.

When you left JW, how did you help transition your kids?

my situation: i da'd this past march.

the ex is still jw, in a city nice and far away so isn't able to give me any local grief.

i have three kiddos, 8, 10 and 12. the 8yo (boy) could really give a crap, i think.

when i left jw's my two youngest children were 12 and 16. they were happy that they didn't have to go to meetings anymore. the 12 year old sometimes felt guilty and fearful, but got over that soon. i divorced their dad and moved to another community. the 12 year old chose to go to a catholic school and soon learned that religious hypocrisy and brainwashing wasn't contained to jw's. it sounds like you are doing great with your kids. it will mean a lot to them, to see you happy. make sure you have rules for them, watch their assoc. with friends. if you are unsure of what they might be getting into be sure to supervise their activities. get them involved with productive activities...music, sports, drama and most of all their education. if they seem confused about your present decision and start talking about how they felt about things when they wentt to the kh, just tell them that adult's make mistakes and you are sorry for the one's you have made. best wishes

Should I admit to JWs that I am disfellowshipped?

i know about 2000 jws in sydney, and have 50 that are tax clients, so barely a week goes by without bumping into someone i know.

it seems that few of them realise that i am disfellowshipped because they talk freely to me.

last week i accidently sat next to an elder on the train and we engaged in small talk for over 30 minutes.. should i admit to these people that i am not a jw?.

I don't know if I'm considered da'd or df'd. Some witnesses talk to me, but elders gernerally don't. When I run into people I treat them like I do anyone else, "Hi, how are you? What's new?" Then I tell them about all the GOOD NEWS in my life. Unless of course they give me the cold shoulder, I whistle on my merry way. If someone asks if your going to such and such h all or attend meetings I would ask them "Why do you ask?" Throw the ball back in their court.

Sunday notes at the District Convention: Avoid an independent spirit!

i wandered outside the convention around mid-afternoon, returning for the concluding song, so i didn't get to hear "summary of the botchtower" nor the final talk (which gets all the seals clapping).. .

know that the kingdom of god is near .

Doubting our own intuition - reality vs. reality

when someone asks about the jws, i usually find myself talking about disfellowshipping, the blood issue, the child-molestation problem.

but looking back i think, although those are the easily explained and perhaps somewhat sensational bad things about being a jw, they're not the only things that have left their marks.

in fact, only the disfellowshipping issue has personally affected me (although i'm not officially df'd, but of course you don't have to be to lose your friends/family).

Luna-Part of growing up is making mistakes. The only wrong one is the one you don't learn from. You trusted a man and he broke your trust, you trusted a religion and it broke your trust. You had the wisdom to see both for what they are. Sometimes parents at a young age don't teach children to make decisions on their own and learn from them. They make all the decisions for the child, protecting them from making any errors, therefore we never learn to listen to our own intuition and wisdom. Forgive yourself, try to see the good that came out of the situations and quit beating yourself up. I also made a poor first marriage choice and made a poor choice of religion with JW's, but have lived and learned.

I agree with you. I used to get so angry when my perception of reality was denied. I remember an article in one of the magazines tha encouraged people to use their power of reason. I lauded that article and referred to it often, but was discouraged and frustrated when it wasn't put into practice or encouraged by the elders. So now, when the sky is blue I know it's blue. When it's cloudy I know it's cloudy. I don't need anyone telling me what my perception of reality is or what it should be. Freedom is a gift.
