Bernadette,
Were you bothered at all by their history? Their failed prophecies? Their lies? Their Child abuse policy? The affilliation with the U.N.?
What has that got to do with whether or not the WTS is christian? Has that ever had anything to do with qualifying or disqualifying a religion from being christian?
smellsgood: I'm not asking as from the point of qualifying it as Christian or not. Those are things that just prove its a lying deceiving false entity.
I'm just curious if your reasons go BEYOND that they load a persona with too much work, and if any of the things I mentioned had anything to do with you leaving the WT? -

Misquoting Jesus-a must read
by dawg ini've read comments from those of you that still cling to the bible stating that there's no merit in the di vinci code's claim concerning the conference in nicea in 325. we all know that book is fiction but like all great fiction, there's some truth behind the story.
some of you have made statements that the nt was actually written by the apostles, which i refuted, and after asking for and not reciveing information from you believers any bible scholars anywhere that would go on record saying they believed the nt was in fact written by the apostles; i decided to researcht he subject on my own.
i could find no scholars that believed the apostles wrote the nt; as a matter of fact, they all said the apostles couldn't have written them.

smellsgood: First of all, Matthew, Mark and John are the apostles. Paul and Luke were not apostles.
For you believers, the offer still stands, show me where any scholar-i'm talking a person in a secular position at any University that will state on record that he/she believes the apostles actually wrote the NT. I've just finished 6 books on the subject, all of the writers were sceptical of the NT's orgins; everyone of them agreed that the apostles didn't write the NT; everyone of them said the NT was filled with errors.
smellsgood: Either the books were written by sadly historically ignorant folks, or men who were distorting history to support their own philosophy.
I don't like it when authors are blatantly historically innaccurate or ignorant, but they aren't barred from publishing their books.
Can you give a specific idea of whom they DO claim to have written Matthew, Mark and John please...then I'll better be able to take them to task. -

Didn't Jesus say something like if they are not against me then thay are for me.
smellsgood: In Biblical theology there is something known as hermeneutics. You cannot isolate one verse without taking the other verses into mind as well. What you have is an eisogetic statement. Building proofs upon one verse doesn't work in determining the entire "spirit" of the gospels. I would say that the WT is against him, not for him. They don't teach the gospel as written in the NT bottom line.
Pernsonally if one wants to be a christian then there are easier ways of being one. My own reason for leaving JWs is that they are very damaging re their schedule of activites etc.

Please, if anyone out there wants to write a nasty comment, pleaese don't. I have raised this girl on my own for the past 8 years with no child support or assistance. This has happened suddenly over the past few months, just need some input from experienced parents out there.
Also, since you say that you "raised her on your own past eight years" I know that must have been tough, well done! Still, you said, when "WE" try this, so there maybe someone who she didn't grow up with getting involved with the discipline. I know that Dr.Phil's advice in that situation would be that ONLY the Parent who has RAISED her should do the disciplining...this may be more of a challenge and inconvenient, but it gets a child frustrated when someone becomes involved with their Parent, they haven't grown up with them, and that person is involved in the discipline.
That's all I can think of...good luck. She also could have MONO or something...It could be medical, but teenagers are lazy IMO.
I will say I couldn't wait to get my license (18 when I got it) now I am TERRIFIED to think there are wacky 16 yr olds driving around, lol.
Good luck -

Based on the facts and history, I have as much respect for C.T. Russell as the WT organization today. Below zero.

5go,
I haven't been to that many countries, I see you live in Switzerland?? I live in America, so I'm a bit at a disadvantage, since I don't have such a mixture of cultures as close as say, the next state. It's America not a different country.
I've been to France (Paris) It's pretty awesome, been to Germany (Berlin) loved that (went there to see Radiohead) Also been to Spain (San Sebastian) Also went THERE to see Radiohead.
I think Japan is awesome, my brother has been there three times....I would bet that Italy will be one of my favourite countries, as it is so rich in Art and History. I would love to see Egypt. I could tell you the countries that I am interested in...all of them! And all the languages too.
I love German, do you speak Swabisch? <don't have that umlaut for the 'a'? -

ilovegravy,,,
i love gravy too. I hope you have some door to door stories you'd be willing to share, as they entertain me like nothing else! Totally get it that you are through with knocking!
Gumby,
How about I go knocking, and I get to borrow your personal experiences, eh? again, totally get why it wouldn't be something everyone would be excited about. Too much time spent, too much negativity associated w/ it.
I'm all about innoculating the people from the cults! Hate seeing families torn apart and people dying for no blood and shit. -

A JW confronted by that question as an individual and asking himself that Q would think "Well I know that I pray in Jesus name, I exercise faith in his sacrifce, I think about him as a model for myself and try to follow in his footsteps".
smellsgood: its all semantics.
We could see the WTS as considering the Q simply as a matter of words and definitions and may console themselves with the idea that they are in fact teaching individual JWs to excerise faith in Jesus as mediator by extension.
smellsgood: I understand how a JW's twisted thinking to console himself regarding the indescrepancies between what the WT teaches and what the gospels say could make him believe this way. Where does it say in the Christian gospels that Jesus is a "mediator by extension" because one is ASSOCIATED with those whom Jesus is a "mediator for real"....
are you just playing devil's advocate or do you really think that JW's are truly CHRISTians. I think the WT takes the Christ out of Christianity. Could you see this in another cult, for example the unification Church? It's the cults who have to take where the power of Christianity lies, that is, in Christ, and take that power for themselves. That's why there members are so radically devoted to the cult. It is their saviour they believe, not Christ as a Christian would believe.
