R.F. you might have seen this, might not have, but that was one of my very astute "points" in my very enlightening topic "Why the WT is NOT Christian"
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/135381/1.ashx
could also use Galatians in arguing against their "preaching work
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/136661/2435671/post.ashx#2435671
I've used those points in arguing w/ witnesses online. They are either ignored or brushed to the side. And I thought they cared about spreading the good news??

Reasoning with JWs using Galatians
by R.F. inone of the final death blows to my beliefs of wt doctrine was really pondering over galatians 1. paul was very clear and strong in saying that there should be no gospel preached than what they taught, and they taught the simple message of jesus christ coming to earth, dying in our behalf, and his resurrection.
the gospel that jehovah's witnesses preach is obviously very different.
they've put in elements that are no where to be taught by early christian leaders.. so my question is.... how many of you have used this reasoning with the witnesses?

I hate Walmart!
by Elsewhere ini rarely ever set foot in the place and will go out of my way to avoid shopping there.
tonight i made the mistake of giving walmart the benefit of the doubt and walked in the door.. they didn't have the main item i was looking for, but they did have one other small item.
i headed to the front to check out only to find they had only a few check-outs open and all of the lines were far too long.

What way is that Tatiana? I said I don't like the idea of Wal-Mart, I probably just like it because I like to shop, especially for food and cake, and I get excited when I see green onions 3/$1. So sue me! I think pretty much all the food is made in U.S.A. Of course WalMart is a huge, corporate powerful juggernaut that is ridiculous. I can't help but shop there though!

*sniffs* GAG!
Yup, being the resident smeller incarnate, I definitely smell something putrid. If the Watchtower ISN'T a cult, it must mean that I'm living in some backwards dimension where Ice Cream is hot, Water is dry, Mt. Everest is below Sea level and Britney Spears is Super Classy.
I don't believe I can say in good conscience that Ted Jaracz....

My Dad had been a Jehovah's Witness.
He was in his early twenties when after zooming along on his dirtbike and running a stop sign, he collided with a vehicle, went sailing through the air and received life threatening injuries. He was in Rathdrum, Idaho, and as far as I've heard it told, he stopped breathing for quite a long time. He really miraculously survived after being rushed to the hospital, having emergency surgery where his Aortic valve actually had to be REPLACED with a n artificial one made from DACRON (http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/society/A0814472.html)
Of course he needed blood! As I was reading about R.F.'s Mum it made me remember that, how I wouldn't even be here, and my Dad would have been dead long ago if he had been a Witness. He bears the scar to this day, a scar that reaches around from his mid-torso around to his spine.
Not only would my Dad be dead, but my Grandmother would have been dead YEARS ago, she has terrible heart problems, and just had another surgery last week. This didn't seem possible last year, I don't know exactly what happened. She has high blood pressure that won't quit, diabetes that exascerbates that, and many many stents, and requires alot of medicine and visits to her Doctor.
Neither of them have contracted diseases, luckily.
Nothing gets my blood boiling like the idiocy of the WT blood policy. It's so heinous and moronic it makes me want to bludgeon the GB. -

You know, when you wrote about long lines, I had visions of the Iraqis in miles long lines waiting for....soup? crackers? toasters? NO! Gasoline! I feel bad for them, but you can't help but shake your head when the residents of one of the most oil rich countries in the world have to wait and wait and wait to fill up their tank! I mean, what else? They have to camp out to aquire a bag of sand in the desert?
But yeah, Wal-Mart. Lines, inconvenience.
I admit, I like Wal-Mart, and I shop there often. The thing I don't do is shop for their "wares" that are made in China. I shop in their grocery section, pretttty much all made in the U.S.A. and substantially cheaper. I also will get shampoo, face lotion, candy, whatever.
I don't like the idea of Wal-Mart whatsoever, and I always think of that Frontline or Wideangle documentary of the young Chinese woman sewing away at those jeans. You look at the rows and rows of largely poorly designed and hastily produced textiles, in ONE store, and it blows your mind. I have a sewing machine, I once tried to sew pants and I never finished it's so dang tricky. The girls were getting paid $1 per pair of pants, if that. It's really epidemic though, and certainly not exclusive to Wal-Mart at this point, though they certainly take advantage of the countries where the government only looks at its people as commodities.
Wal-Mart has so many drawbacks in so many ways. It's difficult for even a middle class family to make it work sometimes, and the fact that they can save money is one of the few good things about the WM. -

For Christians: Grace vs. Forgiveness
by AuldSoul ini have been trying to sort this out scripturally, and would like to get input from christians on how these two concepts differ and/or overlap.
please be liberal with scriptures to support statements.
i think there may be others who are trying to figure this out for themselves, too.

AuldSoul, I've never seen you so hot under the collar!
Terry, really, you do preach enough on your own threads that it really is just redundant to do so anytime anyone brings up beliefs that conflict with your own. Not that I don't think your opinion matters or that you don't have a right to say whatever. It seems like you've got all your gear on, your watch, your bayonet, and your subscription to Skeptics magazine and your out pounding along with a megaphone shouting everything you believe at every opportunity.
I mean, sometimes you can give it a rest right? I mean, you are part of the MAJORITY here, most people AGREE with your conclusions, so if it's a thread addressing a topic that only a very small MINORITY believe on this board, to you really have to barge in and start bellowing like a drunk Irishman? -

Terry you are madly evangelical aren't you? :)
Auld Soul, just referring to the topic, I didn't know that grace and forgiveness were in a fist fight, or at odds. :)
I think you could say that grace is something that is given and cannot be earned, and forgiveness is the act of sort of cancelling out what was done wrong. I don't know, did you want me to use the bible? I'm just going with my understanding of such things. -

Do I like where I live? You might as well ask me do I like eating potatos raw, or falling down an escalator, or using a porta-potty on a 105 degree day. That would mean no. I live in the rural area of a city that is ridiculous. I hate the weather, it gets hella hot in the summer and hella cold and snowy in the Winter. Ugh. Around where I live is a ton of hicks, trailer parks (sorry nothing against living in a trailer) the kind where they put their old floral loveseat on the deck that's crumbling. I guess they like to sit outside and peer into their neighbors window.
Worst of all is the enormous Mormon population. Sure, the pop machines stay relatively stocked, but it's so sickening to go past the Church (which is RIGHT by the School) on Sundays and see three sessions of indoctrination absolutely packed to the gills. You see the women with their seven children, the girls all with long hair and hand-me-down frocks and the boys in their starchy collars no matter the weather. -

I love the green tea, and the white tea. I like all kinds, the peachy and pear flavored ones are good. I usually just drink it Eastern Style(no milk or sugar), as with coffee.
You know, Ross and T.J. Maxx of all places have these teas you don't see anywhere else. Plus, I got a hundred bags for $5! Not bad not bad.
