Holding Discussion on the dubs

i was invited to my uncles home, to tell their church group about the witnesses.

i don't want to talk about myself, or personal experiences but rather facts/things that happened.

any ideas?

The things that struck me most when I first was learning of the WT were
*blood
*teaching about 144,000
*1914 being a date of any significance, then everything surrounding that
*teaching that Jesus was Michael the Archangel in pre -exis form.
*FALSE PROPHECIES
*How the WT talks about "associations"
*How the WT talks about itself being God's "mouthpiece"
I think those are things outsiders don't generally know about, and it would be good if they were not ignorant of :)

Headed to Berlin Germany on Sept 3rd What shouldnt we Miss?

I've been to Berlin, so I second Jasons suggestion, don't miss kadawe, it is phenomenal. Only, make sure you don't fondle any of their dresses, you will get a german lady speaking at you for an entire minute words you don't understand until "zwei tousand drei hundert funfzig mark (now euro)" and then you go "ooooh, das ist teuer!" (that's expensive)

The top floor (food floor suhhhhhhhhhhhweeet) is unreal. Cheeses, meats, pastries, wines, liquors, restaurants, fantastic in every way.

Don't miss seeing the Reichstag! Brandenberg Gate, the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche (located Breitscheidplatz near the ku'damm shopping street), Potsdamer Platz!!! (some of the best food I've had, I forget the restaurant name, across from the Sony store there anyways), Fernsehturm (the big discoball looking rotating T.V. tower)

And for the best views in my opinion, climb the narrow staircase of the Siegessäule in the center of the Tiergarten.

If at all possible, you must not miss taking the S-bahn to Potsdam!! Visit Prince Freidrichs palaces, the schloss Charlottenberg (which unfortunately was I was not able to) and Sanssouci (meaning "without a care" which I was able to see! Tour the grounds around that estate, there are little golden buildings that are very fairytale like)

I don't think thirdwitness is really interested in truth, just in being right. I believe he is a cowardly debater who will only engage in debates of his choosing, in what he believes to be "area of expertise." I don't believe he has an honest bone in his body, or will be able to disentangle his WT psychoses long enough to see any information reasonably.
Otherwise I would love to ask him what he thinks constitutes a false prophet, and if he believes the bible when it says that to watch out for them, there will be false prophets among you, and how we could identify them.
But I don't think he would engage in that arena since he is a dishonest coward.</div>

why does daniel specifically use the word 'times' rather than years?

that is often only achieved through vigorous, and sometimes bloody debate, as can be evidenced by many on this board who were once believers until their beliefs were challenged and they were forced to face them head on.
smellsgood: THAT is what I am wholeheartedly interested in! Believe me, if this is the case then, I will come out with guns blazing more often! I really love vigorous bloody debate, so much so I've tried to temper it and play nice. I get torn about which way to go about things. If by any measure I will lovingly feather them away from apostasy, I will do a complete 180 in that case. As long as the end result is one less WT slave, knives out then if thats what it takes. :)

My mom calls to chew me out about my college... YIKES!!!

so, i was happy and celebrating because of getting good grades in my courses, well i get a call from my mom.

at first the phone call was just "hi, how are you" then she laid into me saying my "problem" (meaning my divorce) was because i was putting my education first and not jah.

she goes on to tell me that the "talk today" was about people murmuring as israelites and bad things happened to them.

You know, wasn't Paul a highly educated person? Unfortunately, the Bible also says that man eats by the "sweat of his brow." In other words, you gotta work to eat. pfft. And thankfully there are many pursuits that you can feed yourself and maybe have some spare change for orphans or whatever that aren't heavy manual labor.
What is "murmuring" the Watchtowers new pet expression? I guess they are trying to convey something sinister when someone is "murmuring" about something. "murmurs against Jehovah's earthly organization." Beware the murmurs.

Nobody is 'picking' on Saki, and this is not Junior School, I am sure that he can take care of himself without your help. I merely asked if he had anything of value to add to the thread apart from once again criticizing AlanF for his posting techniques. He has insinuiated that he ;does not, so perhaps ;his repeated claims to be a neutral observer have been found wanting once again.
smellsgood: I think adults can behave like children sometimes. Anyways, I wasn't saying anything about your points being of an unreasonable nature, I just believe the tone tends to have an unintentional 'superior' feel to it. I will always comment if I sense someone is being treated unfairly whether they can stand alone or not. I think its always important to remember that he is just looking into this. How "neutral" would you have been at first?
There are other ways of learning and taking in information from this board without peppering them with little insults design to try and rattle the cage of other posters. One of them is to read and learn and if there is something of value to add, to do that. It is not rocket science.
smellsgood: That's true. I try not to post to much where I have no idea either way. If he is trying to be provocative, perhaps ignoring those posts would be good. Understanding that he is probably torn in wanting to believe what thirdwitness is professing, and perhaps believes that 3w actually is explaining things sufficiently (uuuurgh!!! no!)
Anyways, I always want people to remember where they were, and not get too claws out with those who are newly searching, that is what I am really reacting to. I'm not now commenting on you in this thread, but I have seen it oftentimes, a rather startling lambasting reaction to those who post who aren't out of the grips of the watchtower. I think its important to treat them with kindness, especially if perhaps if one is so designated "apostate" as this is precisely what they WOULDN'T expect. :)

quit picking on saki! geez, he isn't full of pride like thirdwitness. It doesn't seem at all like he's more interested in being right than honest. Put yourself back when you were a witness, what would your reaction be to learning all this new information where you've been in a vacuum sealed chamber of it before?

really, use a little discernment when it comes to different people and their motivations for being here, and treat those who; regardless if they have added something "relevant" to the discussion or not, with due respect if you please. Saki does not strike me as a rabid megalomaniac the way third witness does.

he's got an overwhelming amount of information to absorb. I for one am chuffed to bits that he's looking at things whatever, and don't wish to upset this process with unkindness, or haughtiness of any kind. Really, yes, you are informed about what the truth of the WT is, but don't treat those who haven't found out as of yet the way you might have treated a "worldly" person who didn't have a "knowledge of the truth." when you were a Witness.

it doesn't matter one whit what endless drivel you spew about chronology and the year 607/1914. It doesn't relate to Jesus in any way shape or form. It doesn't relate to the second coming. The whole thing is only a power structure for the Watch Tower to operate upon. THEY ARE USING JESUS, NOT HONORING HIM IN ANY WAY. They had to retroactively fit in Jesus to a failed prophecy. They interpret the Bible only to suit their own ends, not bring about truth, glory, or honor to God.
The fact of the matter is the Bible so utterly shuts down the vacuous stupidity of 1914 with these words "AS LIGHTNING SHINES FROM THE EAST UNTO THE WEST, SO SHALL THE COMING OF THE SON OF MAN BE" "He will come on the clouds with great honor and glory and EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM."

You will never be reasoned with because you shut out any possibility of reasonableness, be it public or private.
The fact is you have religion for your god. You worship your religion, you depend on your religion to save you, you bow down before the ugly pitiful god that is the watchtower.
