i was once counselled by the elders for watching 'knots landing'....it became widely known in the congregation that me and a few other sisters would rush home from field service to watch our favourite soapie.
if we missed it, we would ring each other up for an update...or...if we weren't near a tv we would ask someone to put the phone handset on the top of their tv so we could hear it...pathetic huh...but that was all the excitement we could scrounge up in our otherwise dull and uneventful lives.
one of the elder's wive's conscience got the better of her...and she confessed to her husband..lol.
...and then there's this HORRENDOUS evil shit that takes place in their midst and they are completely blind to it. Absolutely crippled into inaction. Desparately clinging to their blindness and inaction until they can scapegoat someone for their own relief.
Anyone and anyhow, no matter how blatantly wrong or evil their decisions might be.

it's amazing how, if the jw captives die in captivity, then the jw's will spin it that "time and unforseen occurance" happens to all (even loyal jws).
I see that today's secular/military news from the US and Manila advises that the Philippines ought to be watched very closely as they are more likely than most places to be at risk of immediate danger.
i got to thinking about this at work a couple of nights ago.. a news story said that the two jw's killed weren't (apparently) proselytizing in the phillipines, which is described as a heavily muslim nation.
though they were found with avon products, avon said the two were neither employees nor representatives.. now, why would two jw's be in a heavily muslim land, possibly pretending to be something they're not?
were they just lugging the stuff from place to place for someone as a favor?.
Or the WTS could have encouraged some very naive JWs (not hard to find) to enter a situation that was frought with danger in the hopes of garnering worldwide notice and sympathy that might take the heat off of everything else that is currently happening to them.
At the very least, in the Philippines, where their growth numbers are currently among the very highest.
