Strange comment after shooting

i was listening to the news this morning and they were reporting on a double shooting that had just happened at a pharmacy.

details about the shooting weren't available as it had just happened but the reporter detailed what he was witnessing as the emts removed two badly wounded victims from the pharmacy.. about ten minutes later he came back on the radio and gave an update, including comments from a pharmacy employee who was due in at nine am (the shooting must have taken place around 8:30 or so).. .

reporter: did you find what happened here surprising?.

I understand your comments.

My first impressions were:

1) Perhaps she was involved in it somehow or knew who was.

2) WHERE is this place? Some locations in this great USA are exceedingly dangerous and some people keep their emotions at bay in order to survive.

3) She's working in a pharmacy. The 'wonder drugs' available today are designed to keep people functioning in the face of 'Post Traumatic Stress Disorder', 9-11 and more. I suspect they do so by cutting people off from their feelings. Perhaps she's taking one of them.

4) If she walked into a situation where the victims were alive and being cared for, the police and EMT's clearly had the situation under control and everyone she worked with was right there, and a bunch of reporters were also right there, maybe she didn't feel scared. Maybe she felt curious or perhaps like she needed to be strong.

5) Some people don't feel their feelings till later when they're alone.

6) Some people think it's shameful to express weakness or fear or vulnerability.

7) Maybe she's a JW and has no meaningful emotional connection whatsoever to anything.

Inactive.....but curious....

i was just thinking after reading some of the posts, and wanted to ask you something..... do any of you feel, and i mean right in the back of your minds, that jws might still have the true faith (truth).

i've been inactive for a few years now and don't attend meetings at the kh, apart from the memorial, and occasional convention.

please don't shout me down, its just that to me, even though i've been out for a while and my reasons for "drifting" away were very painful to me, i don't feel as the majority do here.

Hi there,

I think you are looking at JWs and seeing that 'a few bad apples are everywhere'.

Try looking at them and thinking, 'A few good apples are everywhere.'

DISCERNING things and honoring your own intuitions and drawing your own conclusions have never been respected by WTS/JWs.

The bad thing about the good apples among JWs is that you can't keep or deepen your friendships with them and you can't share your thoughts and feelings with them, you can't learn from them and you can't teach them anything because with them it's an 'all or nothing' thing.

Try looking at this (it gets even more interesting after you pass the first page or so of JW history).:

It is one of several articles written by Dr. Jerry Bergman who was raised as a witness and is now a professor of psychology and a mental health professional who works with (among others) a lot of elders and ex-elders.

He has written many, many papers and several books, including "Why Jehovah's Witnesses Have Mental Problems".

Tho Dr. Bergman is actually generous and kind-hearted toward R&F JWs and has many advanced degrees, the WTS actively tries to discredit him as a 'kook', a 'liar' and a fake (and, of course, an evil apostate)..

Read his stuff. It's good.

You'll understand why he's a big target of the WT's 'spiritual warfare', i.e. lying.

It is a great source of pride for me that I left in '74.

It seemed stupid to hang around for '75 if the only reason you were hanging around was for '75.

Like God could be so tricked by a lot of opportunistic, self-serving, insincere brown-nosing?

I'd have to say that was maybe the first time I CLEARLY saw a separation between 'God' and 'Jehovah' (that is, 'God', as JWs saw Him - I only recently learned that the name is actually bogus, too).

If God was going to toss into the 'discard' pile people like Mother Teresa and a slew of others whose lives and spirituality I respected and admired, while he was going to love and shelter and harbor those many opportunistic, judgemental and idiotic goofs at the KH...well then, I guess I'd take my chances in the discard pile with Mother Teresa.

Somehow, I just 'knew' that God was not that stupid - and I was not that chicken.

Another question none can seem to answer for me!

i'm just full of questions and here's another that no one in the hall has ever answered with conviction.. they say that the church steeple is shaped like a phalic symbol (please excuse spelling mistake, mislaid my dictionary!)..

so why then was the temple shaped in a remarkably similar fashion (the picture in the back of the big bible always worried me).

maybe, just maybe, the church is shaped after the original temple and not .... what they say it is.

And KH's are flat and limp. It's beginning to make sense. Yeah, I can see that.

Y'know there's nothing wrong with celebrating fertility and being grateful for it. Historically, it's how nations became strong and harvests become plentiful and biblically, it is a gift from God.

Once again, it's making sense that KHs are flat and limp.

Occult, or not, there has always been something eerie about JW illustrations.

Maybe it's the lack of 'sparkle' in anyone's eyes.

But learning what we have about the 'inside', nothing would surprise me.

to notso perfect......what do i have against her?i have known her since childbirth,and once upon a time she was a normal sweet person who loved her parents,then she changed.it started when she met scott i would say.thats when her troubles began after she got married.she started exploiting herself sexually and started makin up the wildest stories about her husband and herself and thats when i realized that she wasnt the same person and i realized what kind of morals she had and she started sayingthings about scott that was when i realized she isnt right.as the yrs went by she just got worse.and now i dont even know her,she has stretched her testomony and much of it is downright lies.i have actual letters from vicky from yrs back that contradict what she is claiming now.. why do i have against her???

?she has torn her family apart even cousins and aunts and uncles who can see right thru her.see you guy dont know both sides and you never will because vicky knows shes does enough damage and will come to her senses and her brainwashing by frank mottrill is coming out.you see he is usinh vicky as a pawn to get back at the wts for his own wrongdoing.anyway it will soon be over........i personally will never look or talk to her again,she has been disowned my her realtives,most are not even witnesses so what does that tell you.. for the record many of you may not know this but the lawyer for the wts.

Your shallowness and lack of comprehension of things of an emotional nature is very typical of JWs.

Oblivion, really.

But that never stands in the way of harsh, vocal and opinionated judgements or an inclination to villify or destroy someone else's character or reputation, does it?

And usually with self-righteous glee, too.

Will any disrupt meetings & assemblies?

as the ranks of jw's continue to deplete, what are your thoughts on meetings and assemblies being disrupted or heckled by angry ones as more eyes become open to this cult and the damage it has done.. anyone?.

When Greenpeace wanted to get a point across to people who refused to hear it, they literally chained an unopenable briefcase to an irremoveable seat (like a theater seat).

Inside a recorded message BLARED their message over the speakers voice.

Of course, later they did eventually remove it, but it took them a very long time to do so and in the meantime, the attendees were FORCED to hear a reading of a very long list of misdeeds that they were protesting.

Hard to ignore that one. Especially when a reporter was present, too.

Just a thought.

Do JW's teach anything about their history?

everyone here seems to know a lot about jw history, but when i ask my friend (who was a convert) they don't seem to know too much.

do they teach a church history class on sundays or during the week?

(just curious...seems funny that my friend would convert from catholicism without knowing too much of the history)

What I recall from my youth is just being told that there was a straight line that went right from Moses and all those guys in the Old Testament, through Jesus and the apostles and Paul and could somehow be traced, if someone knew the exact history, which someone surely did, to those proclaiming the truth, right through to the JWs and their 'calling', just like all those before them, now in these last days.

But yes, there was a 'ghost' history and a belief that we were just another part of a very long line of the 'right' people, the 'true' Christians. Everyone who ever came into any kind of contact with us had an opportunity to become part of that line, if they could just see 'the truth' and respond to Jehovah's voice, through us.

The actual history? No, no one knew much at all about it except that we had some vague familiarity with the names Russel and Rutherford and some of those old books. But we clearly NEVER believed that our religion began with them. Our religion was ALWAYS there; it is WE who are spoken about in the scriptures.

But I'm also sure everyone knew someone who knew someone who knew someone who had researched Jehovah's Witnesses thoroughly and completely and who, with Jehovah's blessing really knew EVERYTHING about the Organization.

So we wouldn't dare question that. After all, none of the people above us would, and weren't they more knowledgeable, more Godly, more everything than us?.
