  JW's & murder suicide article tomorrow

  in the sacramento ca paper, the bee i think, there is going to be an article re: jw suicide/murder suicide.

  it's near the anniversary of the bryant murder suicide & part of the article is an interview w/ sharon roe, mrs. bryants sister.. if any of you have info re: suicides caused by jw policies, etc., please post.

  the reporter is interested in doing a followup.

  Adults and children with ADD /ADHD

  i have been doing some research on the condition add/adhd and came across a list of names of people who have this condition.

  this runs in my family and only recently have i been diagnosed with this , which was a real eye opener, and if only i had known about this as a child some things would have been more easily understood by my parents.

  i have two children with this condition, and for the time being, have decided agaisnt medication for them.

  You'll find it very helpful for all concerned.

  Spanking?

  what about spanking?

  in most of the world spanking (not beating) is considered a valid form of correction up to a point.

  that point being at the time it is possible to reason with the child.

  I think spanking should only be used on a very small child in a truly dangerous situation (i.e., a 3-year old runs out into the street).

  Spanking teaches kids that physical violence is okay. It also ingrains them with a disrespect or hatred of their own flesh.

  Some cultures follow a tradition of physical punishment. Insensitivity runs deep in these cultures.

  Using fear of physical punishment to enact a desired behavior is taking the easy way out. It takes work to figure out or learn about creative ways to motivate children. But you create better people when you do.

  Because kids who are taught to fear physical punishment will be tyrants when faced with similar situations as adults. For instance, how to get somebody to do something they want.

  Threaten them? Bully them?

  Only for as long as they can keep the law or the boss at bay.

  Once they decide that's not an option, they will sadly find they don't have ANY options because they never learned another way.

  Ending spanking creates better parents, too. But it requires work on their part.

  I've always found this list very useful:

  What do kids need from parents in order to grow up 'okay'?

  Parents need to be:

  Warm

  Nurturing

  Authoritative

  Confident

  You need all four to accomplish healthy goals in raising kids. And to make an easier transition from spanking to no spanking.

  These things require an investment of time on your part.

  It will pay off one day.

  Door to door work really being done?

  obviously the witnesses are going door to door, but is it as effective as could be?

  in all my years as an adult, only once has any witness come to the door preaching "the good news.

  " this is once in over 15 years.

  Okay, okay, okay....I've long suspected this to be the case.

  HOWEVER, if this is so, WHERE is the Watchtower getting their money from???

  Is it all about squeezing the little JWs so badly with guilt from every end until they finally just turn in their OWN money to the WTS to cover for what they feel they SHOULD have done???

  Or is it the guilt-induced elders who are coughing it up to match what they think all the other elders are doing?

  There's a lot of money floating around the WTS.

  Watchtower & Awakes through the mail

  i remember about 12 years ago, we stopped receiving the watchtower and awake magazines through the mail.

  who remembers the reason for that?

  afterwards, we had to get them ourselves at the hall.

  I think it helps them retain their 'secret society' stance.

  No one gets to argue, point out lunacies or say too much of anything about anything if no one except the KH attendies really gets a chance to read anything.

  It helps keep level-headedness, sanity, common sense and reason at bay as much as possible.

  Very useful for keeping JWs from straying to far from the WT teet.

  Habitat for Humanity JW Style

  on tonight's evening news was a story about jw's from the southeast coming to a town in georgia to build a house for a needy jehovah's witness.

  seems that this is recently formed program.

  it's a type of quick-build, kind of along the lines of the kingdom hall builds.

  this is so very disturbing.

  for two different men being forced out of the jw religion, after a time killing their entire families and later to make history as one of "the top ten" news stories of the year, 2002. .

  i realize this (these murders) have been discussed before.

  Thank you for your posts and your comments.

  Just think, he could have called Catholic Charities (if not for that German tourist). And now he's choosing his words so carefully, just in case he might actually still be able to get away with it.

  Stories like this ought to more be part of the mainstream knowledge about JWs, I think.

  jAfterall, both suicides and homicides are very high on the list within the WT cult.

  a recent slew of news articles of january 6, 2003 (check out google.com) noted that of recent cases of familicide in oregon (fathers killing their wives and kids), 2 of the 3 husbands and families were jws.

  (one recently df'd).

  Hey Undisfellowshipped - Thanks for the news link. I see that a January 6 article cites that of the unusually high incidence in Oregon, of familicide (fathers killing their wives and children), two of the three recent cases involved JWs.

  Seems like this should have a separate post, eh? Under news or current events.

  I would create it if I knew how, but I don't. Maybe someone else can do that?
