Do JW's teach anything about their history?

everyone here seems to know a lot about jw history, but when i ask my friend (who was a convert) they don't seem to know too much.

do they teach a church history class on sundays or during the week?

(just curious...seems funny that my friend would convert from catholicism without knowing too much of the history)

What I recall from my youth is just being told that there was a straight line that went right from Moses and all those guys in the Old Testament, through Jesus and the apostles and Paul and could somehow be traced, if someone knew the exact history, which someone surely did, to those proclaiming the truth, right through to the JWs and their 'calling', just like all those before them, now in these last days.

But yes, there was a 'ghost' history and a belief that we were just another part of a very long line of the 'right' people, the 'true' Christians. Everyone who ever came into any kind of contact with us had an opportunity to become part of that line, if they could just see 'the truth' and respond to Jehovah's voice, through us.

The actual history? No, no one knew much at all about it except that we had some vague familiarity with the names Russel and Rutherford and some of those old books. But we clearly NEVER believed that our religion began with them. Our religion was ALWAYS there; it is WE who are spoken about in the scriptures.

But I'm also sure everyone knew someone who knew someone who knew someone who had researched Jehovah's Witnesses thoroughly and completely and who, with Jehovah's blessing really knew EVERYTHING about the Organization.

So we wouldn't dare question that. After all, none of the people above us would, and weren't they more knowledgeable, more Godly, more everything than us?.

WT Nov 4 Study Article - Damage Control??

just been given this watchtower and found the 2nd study article very interesting..... is this the societies damage control to panorama and dateline?.

para 8 onwards says...... 8 satan tries to break our integrity through the sowing of doubts about what we have been taught.

today, as in the first century, apostates and others seek to destroy the faith of the guideless ones.

Someone (you or they) wrote 'guideless'. I'm sure they meant that to be 'guileless'.

Of course they're pissed and determined. What's a rapist to do when you take away all the 'rapees'?

It's not like they could just change over to basket-weaving.

If only these morons were not responsible for such unspeakable evils against so very many innocent people.

Even the phony wizard had a more tender and loving heart than these guys.

WHAT KEEPS YOU HERE?

Honestly, I recently read, 'The Orwellian World of JWs' and I read through the part about Charles T. Russell and I thought, 'That guy was psychotic!'

Always being fascinated with the behavior of people in groups, I now have something new to add.

Okay, I had formerly recognized that JWs can be divided into 2 groups: Those who 'found' it somehow and joined it. And those who were raised in it, often against their will.

Now, after reading that piece, I can add the discovery of two more classes: Many JWs are psychotic or leaning towards psychosis and many, many, many others are EXTREMELY naive and trusting. (It's almost like the 'battered woman syndrome')

After this new realization, I'm beginning to feel like I need to spend less time here. 'What's the point?'

HOWEVER, I will definitely stay through the march.

I am HOPING Bill Bowen finds - or starts - another religion. He is such a leader and there are so many blinded people walking behind these guys. It's so pitiful. I am so hoping he gives up this idea of 'reform' and really strikes out on his own (with help).

Always, I appreciate the insights I get from others.

And I stand ready to attack JWs and to stand up for the rights of children, whom they readily destroy.

Meanwhile I am just waiting, waiting, waiting for people like the people here to get together - in the flesh.

For these little 'apostofests' to become more common so one would happen near me so I might actually be able to go. I think I would like that.

Anyone still bothered by the demons?

hi i'm wednesday and born and raised in jw.-inactive several years.

i have had a number of iincidents that appear to demonic've had spirit beings sit on my bed at ight and talk to me i've been literally touched by things unseen.

now i know the jw are big on demon stuff.

Therapy can be wonderful. But the most important thing is that you have a therapist that you are really comfortable with. And one who is taking you seriously. Really listening. And really hearing you. (Not that anyone is perfect, but you get the idea. As long as you feel like you are moving and you are moving in a good direction, you will likely get to where you want to go.)

It would seem from these posts that perhaps a lot of JWs suffer from sleep paralysis. An intelligent researcher might uncover a link between sleep paralysis and mental oppression or distortion or whatever the hell it is that JWs impose on their flock.

The Victorian ladies also had unusual physical ailments - daytime paralysis and etc. It is said it was because the Victorian era was so sexually repressive. It might also have been because Freud was somehow 'tricked' into overlooking, ignoring and discarding the fact that the fathers of his era were sexually abusing their daughters.

He came up with the Edipal (sp?) Complex instead.

She should 'just go tell him' to meet with the elders. She has a lot of authority in that household, right?

And then maybe she should 'just go tell him' to report himself to the Children's Aid Society. And then she could 'just go tell him' to report himself to the police.

So what's the problem?

I mean, afterall, she's right there. And those poor elders are so very, very, very busy. I mean, what with that tail between their legs and all.

does anyone remember the advice from from the stage, encouraging mothers to remove babies from the room when they were hungry?.

how about, wooden spoons to beat toddlers into submission, preferably in front of the congegation, as to set an example in disipline?

was this just in our hall, or was it from the borg?

I should think that their open promotion of corporal punishment should get them into legal trouble.

At the least, it would make a great 'behind the scenes' documentary video piece for a whole host of news magazines.

Whats the dumbest thing you were counselled for?

i was once counselled by the elders for watching 'knots landing'....it became widely known in the congregation that me and a few other sisters would rush home from field service to watch our favourite soapie.

if we missed it, we would ring each other up for an update...or...if we weren't near a tv we would ask someone to put the phone handset on the top of their tv so we could hear it...pathetic huh...but that was all the excitement we could scrounge up in our otherwise dull and uneventful lives.

one of the elder's wive's conscience got the better of her...and she confessed to her husband..lol.

How often were we forced, intimidated, counselled to pretend to be, no actually to BE dumber than we were, to dumb ourselves down to the level of the idiot who was over us - by their authority.
