A couple of weeks ago I heard the mother of a five year old threaten to lock him in the freezer if he didn't behave.
She said it in a joking way......................... but thats no joke to a five year old.
i was coming out of the grocery store with a few items, and a round the corner comes a woman with 2 young.
boys about 7 or 8. she seemed a little clutsey, she raises her voice, the whole damn parking lot could of heard.. they were walking a head of her, she says "if you trip me boy, your going to sit in the truck all day.
like a lot but geez its 29 degrees celsius and extremely humid.

if the gb really thought they had the exact truth perfect from flaws, shouldn't they be telling their members, "go look at the apostate stuff-- you'll see it's all lies!
compare it to the bible and you'll see it's all lies!
" that would completely eliminate apostasy if it were all true, no?.
Nbernat, I have used this argument with some of my JW family. I have said that research is a good thing and that the truth should stand up to any kind of critique.
There reply is that "Satan keeps turning himself into an angel of light and deceiving people".
I say "If that is true. then how do you know that your not the one being deceived?"
There reply "well uh, uh because I have researched it and found it to be true!"
I say, "so then researching it, is OK?
there reply "well uh..... the right kind of research is OK!"
meaning selective research only
here is an excerpt from my book .

Think of the poor elephant............how traumatic.
(hehe....first time I've used that emoticom)
i didn't want to hijack the "how to save money" thread, but just wondered if anyone else here does his/her own sprouting (making sprouts from beans or seeds).. if you buy sprouts in the supermarket, they can very expensive, expecially if you like to mix 2 or 3 types within a salad.
additionally, if you don't have easy access to an asian market, the long white bean sprouts can be expensive.
locally here in miami, we pay about $2 for just a 12 ounce package.. i started sprouting my own things several years ago, not so much to save money, but more to have a fresh supply of sprouts and not have to go to the store as often.
Radish sprouts and a fresh tomato out of the garden on whole grain bread is fantastic..
i heard that bethel pays for brothers' undergrad and law school expenses if they serve as lawyers, is that true?
also, just to see the hypocrisy, would they accept someone who went to harvard law even if they weren't a regular pioneer?
I sister in my old hall had gone to bethel as a child with her family.
The society had accepted Dad, his wife and there two pre-teen daughters, because dad had some kind of special skill.
The really amazing part is that not only did they pay the expenses to move the family, they also paid for having the daughters horse shipped too. I assume that it must have been at the farms because they were allowed to keep the horse. And this sister told me that her Dad died of a heart attack there, walking across a field of wheat. Judging by this sisters age this would have been about late sixties, early seventies.
the following is a response to a jw friend who still occasionally tries to save my soul, or at least understand it.. his questions are in italics.. i have not yet sent this email.. ========================= what exactly is it that makes you disbelieve there's a god, or makes you unsure he exists?
i think a more sensical question is what makes you so sure he does?
when debating the existence of something invisible, the burden ofproof rests solidly on the shoulders of the believer.
Those are exactly my reasons for disbelieving.
You can analize and interpret scripture all you want. But if you just step back and look at the big picture, it just makes no sense at all.
You said this all very succinctly, I'm printing it out. Thank you

part of what the prosecutor said: "this case makes a bold statement to any religious organization that we are not going to allow you to abuse confidentiality privileges in order to suppress the confessions of child molesters," said strunsky.
"the stakes are way too high.
Yeah, people get so emotional about child abuse,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, especially those women!
Just remember, Men think, and women feel. ( I heard this countless times growing up a dub)

Woohoo!
the thread about angels in the ministry reminded me of this.
there was a lot of rural territory in the congregation that i attended, which meant a lot of houses with dogs out running loose.
some of these dogs were fairly vicious.
Seeker4, I heard that story as a teenager in Lousiana. The version I heard said that as the dog (a doberman) leaped to attack the bros, ex-militaryDub reached out and grabbed his throat and ripped it out as the dog was in mid-lunge.
