  What does faith mean to you?

  we all memorized the definition of faith... faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for...yadda yadda.. it seems like more and more as time goes by and our scientific knowledge base grows, we need less and less faith and fewer things can be attributed to god.. do you think we need faith or is faith just a word we use to feel ok about being too lazy to keep looking for the answers ?.

  Marital problems - advice (or support) please

  completely non-jw related this but value the diversity of experience and viewpoint on this forum.

  i am going to sketch this out quick as i can but please ask any questions if the gaps need filling.. as some may know, i have been married for 12 years with two children (8 and 4).

  my wife stopped work when the eldest was born and has been a stay at home mum since.

  I tried my best to keep a hostile abusive marraige together, for the kids. But after 18 years I finally couldn't take it anymore and decided to give up on the relationship and let it go.

  That is when I finally began to see how much energy was put into patchingup/coddling/tolerating the relationship and how little energy I was expending on other things.... like my own well being and particulary emotionaly energy for my kids.

  I also came to the ralization that up to that point, my kids had spent their entire lives right in the middle of a toxic relationship. I knew that If I did not get out, they would likely enter into toxic relationships themselves as adults.

  When i first left the dubs, a couple of his books were groundbreaking for me. They opened up my mind like nothing ever had before, it just blew me away.

  Now he just spouts a bunch of Hooey. Haha, kinda shows how shut up my mind was being raised a dub that his stuff seemed so incredible awesome.

  i've given this recent lawsuit quite a bit of thought and come to sound conclusions.

  after examining other organization's child-protection policies (namely churches), what i've come to realize is there's a one-size fits all solution that's socially acceptable; all information obtained through witnesses and confessions by organizational personnel is be used to aid and abet law-enforcement.

  there's no in-between or anything short of this objective that's socially acceptable.

  Marriage of convenience

  just a few weeks back my wife and i attended the wedding ceremony of the child of a couple with which we associated in the past.

  he and i worked together in the same industrial complex and shared a common interest in antique cars.

  i liked the older british sports cars and he liked american steel.

  My husband and I spend way less then 75% of our time together. He works in Alaska and is gone 3.5 months out of the year, he also spends about 4-6 weeks a year in the deep woods hunting, sometimes I go, but not always.

  I like to spend a week or two each year at the coast with my dog and maybe another friend.

  I think we have a great relationship.

  As a matter of fact, hubby is coming home from his Alaska gig this very evening, and to say we are excited to see one another again is putting it mildly. Our time apart makes our time together that much sweeter.

  the jw organization says that two witnesses to separate acts of wrongdoing are acceptable for someone to be df'ed.. "if there is another witness to the same type of sin on the part of the accused, this would be basis for forming a judicial committee.

  I was thinking the same that maybe I just had a great deal of sexual abuse in my hall. I was hoping. I love these people.

  This part of your post really touched me.

  I loved them too, I loved the congregation and had complete and utter respect for the elders.
