  Question for you born ins

  when i was growing up as a born in jw, i remember the fear that dfing stirred up within me.

  as a kid, seeing a df'd person was quite a scary thing.

  thinking back about how it was growing up, it occurred to me that at the time, i never realized that a person had to be baptized in order to be df'd.

  Hook Lines or Phrases Jehovah's Witnesses Use to Control You

  to control a person, or control a group of people , any cult , including jehovah's witnesses , have to gain your trust that they are the authority on what you need to know.

  even people have been known to use these " catch phrases " to gain trust , or " hook lines " as you'd call them to gain control over groups of people or individually in their own lives.

  see if you are familiar with these phrases which empower the sender of the phrase , but demands rapt allegiance from listeners to be the " gospel truth " without challenge , which can take the listeners power away.

  i'm currently working on seattle stores for april/may.

  What Does Being an Adult Mean for Young Women?

  my daughter was 18 when the jehovah's witnesses encouraged (and pressured) her to move out of her home because i would not allow her to go to any more book studies.

  they went to work and found an apartment for her to move to.

  she now lives with this older bitter and mean jehovah's witness woman.

  It is never OK for an unrelated male and female JW to be alone together, even if the male is 16 and the female is 61.

  And yes, if the elders feel the need to interrogate her, it will be two or three elders alone with your daughter, no other female will be allowed to be present.

  If your daughter were underaged, they would still want to interrogate her wiht no parent present. Though I understand some parents have insisted on being present and been successful. usually parents do not put up a fuss.

  When I went to the elders for help because my stepfather was assaulting me. We sat in the back room with three creepy elders sitting around me in a semi circle firing sexually explicit questions at me. It was a horrible experience for a fifteen year old uber shy girl.

  It was a sexual assault in itself.

  But last year I was in a feed store when a man came in carrying a very young goshawk, still covered in down.

  He was hand raising it to hunt. it was a rare treat to see.

  I was only good for the book study

  i was never picked to be in a part in the assemblies.

  i was not worthy for such functions, unlike the usual suspects: pioneers, bethelites, the single elderly sister who pioneered despite her illnesses, etc.

  yet, the same elders who never recommended me for any part in the assemblies, expected me to participate in the book study like there was no tomorrow, especially when they were stuck with a boring group like mine.

  Sorry heyfew, I didn't mean to sound like I was mocking you.

  I hear were your coming from, my JW ex-hubby wasn't good enough for any of those things either, while I was a witness, I found this embarresssing.

  But now I am proud of him, he never was a company man, or a good ol boy, and he just couldn't get along with any of the elders. But he got along great with everyone else.

  Good for him and good for you too. Proves that your not their kind, your better then that.

  WT-Says Moms Should not Work

  the feb 1, 2008 wt has an article on p. 28 called finding fulfillment as a mother.

  the article basically states that moms should not work outside of the home but stay at home with their kids to teach them things about jehovah.

  it also states that moms that want to work outside the home full-time do so not out of economic necessity but to boost their self worth, to obtain financial independence or to pay for luxuries.

  Yoga - Not a Choice for Christians

  my wife wants to start yoga for her joints.. what do you think in light of the counsel?

  Yoga is excellant for joints and many other things.

  I have chronic neck pain, I use to go to chiropractors for relief, and then I became an massage therapist and I learned that massage would keep my pain in check.

  Now I take a yoga class 3-4 times a week and I have NO PAIN at all. Not only did it take care of my neck pain but it also took care of other less serious aches and pains I have lived with over the years.

  I can't say enough good about yoga. I have taken classes from many different teachers and studios over the past thirty years, and never once did the teacher say or do anything that was even remotely religeous or un-christion.

  I relly love hot yoga or bikrim yoga. It's a series of poses dome in a room heated to 105 degrees with about a 50% humidity. It feels awesome!

  i went to a spanish congregation and there were different hispanic nationalities and one in particular used to snub, criticize and make fun of the other one.

  very unchristian and so the opposite of what they preached.

  I've heard more then one elder make racial slurs.

  One in particular comes to mind, a PO in texas I knew, frequently used the N word and was constantly making comments about dirty,lazy,etc mexicans.

  My jaw would drop to the floor every time, but others did not even seem to notice.
