Field Service Break stories

after reading the thread about strange field service experiences, i kept thinking about some of the strange stories.

when we would stop for break on a saturday morning:.

there was this brother and his wife who were uber-rightous about getting time in.

AnnO - Yup, once when I was little my mom left without me to go out in service. I cried all morning...

I have a five year old who I bet would love to go in service. her favorite thing in the world is talking to people. If we go to the zoo, she glances at the animals and then strikes up a conversation with the nearest stranger. If we go to a park or anywhere that would normally interest kids, she is only focused on talking to new people.

It sounds like you were just like my daughter, she amazes me, her father and I are rather shy people.

Times I've confronted people (strangers) for being rude...

here are two instances where i had had enough and confronted people when they were being rude.

was i over the top??

instance 1.. i was at the supermarket and there was a group of kids (~17-19 years old), wanna-be hoodlums, hangin out in the produce section and two or so of them were eating sunflower seeds and spiting them on the floor.. i said in a loud voice (i was ~10 ft away) "hey- are you throwing shit on the floor?!

She kept on harassing him, until I said I wouldn't buy a tree from someone who treated thier employees that way.

I bet it was her husband and not her employee......

here are two instances where i had had enough and confronted people when they were being rude.

I do not think it is rude to interupt them if the employee has not so much as even glanced in my direction

But that is not the case here Snake. And there is a clearly marked line. So not only are they interupting my interaction with my current customer, they are ignoring the people who are next.

If you are in line at the checkout counter then the employee does not need to acknowledge you before finishing with their current customer.

But if there isn't a line or checkout and an employee is going on and on with a customer and even appears to be socializing more then helping. They really need to at least briefly make eye contact with me or say "I'll be right with you", or I probably will interupt them.

Me: Would you like to live in a world like this? (And I would open the new world tract.) Say yes.

lol, I was evidently afraid the householder would say no and then I wouldn't no what to say so I told them to say yes, lol...

yes, you must have been an adorable kid.

i don't think I could have said no to that...

The other, is being interrupted when I (as the employee) am with a customer. The Library I was at previously was really bad for that. I would look the person in the eye, and say something like "I am with this customer right now, I'll be with you in a moment".

I really appreciate it when a employee acknowledges my presence, even though they are with another customer.

If they look at me and say “I will be right with you” then I can wait my turn without wondering if they even know I am there or not.

If the person who cheated on that college test got admitted, but at the cost of another student who honestly took the test and was qualified to be admitted, but who was bumped by the test cheater because of a limit on the number of student enrollments, is that acceptable morally and ethically? As a parent, you may feel great that your kid made it to a dream college, but how do you feel about the parents and the kid who didn't make it because your kid cheated? Screw them? Tough shit?

OK but what if my kid was 10 times smarter and more talented then your kid.

And was brilliant in the real world but did very poorly under testing situations.

Does that mean your kid deserves the opportunity more then my kid?

Testing is far from perfect and there are no level playing fields.

I think some of you posters are missing a few of the finer points.

Farkel said that if you cheat you will be very successful, and if you don't you will be much less successful.

So the idea of "cheaters never win" does not apply here, in this case the cheater is very well rewarded.

Soo if you cheat on one test and then become wildly successful, apparently you are qualified for the job, it was just one little test that stood in your way.

This is not a perfect world and worthy people are only occasionally wildly successful, the rest is just good luck.

i had an hour to kill before picking julian up at a birthday party, last friday.

so, i decided to go relax at the library.

Boy this thread really hit a sore spot with me.

Being raised JW it was always pounded into us that children were to show respect to all adults. It was assumed that all adults were worthy of the respect of children.

All the while the society never showed one iota of respect for children.

The never came out and stated it but the message I got was loud and clear, this is what I learned being raised in the borg.

1 Children are not as worthy as adults.

2 Adults are always right, children are always wrong.

3 The normal stages of growth that children go through are unacceptable and must be severely controlled.

4 Adults’ having the right to kill their own children for disobedience is a good thing.

I hate it when someone complains about disrespectful children because it drags up all those crappy, unloved, disrespected, worthless, feelings I had as a JW child.

2. cheat........ maybe. If by cheating she would be able to reach a leval of success she would not have otherwise, then obviously she has the ability to reach that level. It's just some arbitrary test that stands in her way, so why shouldnt she? If the test was a true measure of worthyness, then she would not be successful even if she did cheat.

On the other hand, if shes happy, it doesn't matter, she allready is successful.
