Weddings in the Kingdom Hall and UK law? Isn't everyone entitled to use it?
by digderidoo inthis has come to my mind the last couple of days, i wondered if anyone knows anything about this?.
if a place is licenced to hold a wedding, isn't everyone entitled to use that place?.
i seem to remember that when charles and camilla got married windsor castle wouldn't licence themselves for it, because it would mean they couldn't refuse people to use it for their own wedding.

Had two mormons knock the door this morning
by digderidoo intwo young guys knocked my door this morning, kind of reminded me of my younger pioneer days.. anyway i told them i have a book of mormon and they wanted me to pray to god to ask him whether it was his word.
i asked them how god had answered them that it was, they said the holy spirit, but didn't elaborate.. i said to them i didn't think an organised religion is an exclusive way to god.
that certainly the first century christians weren't organised in such a way.

I did think to myself they may call back, so i thought i'd do what they had asked just in case, so that i have a response for them.
I said a little prayer to ask God if the Book Of Mormon was his word, i opened the first page and there was a picture of a blonde Jesus, so i didn't read anymore and guessed he kind of answered me.

So, if Kingdom Halls are used for weddings, under UK law can just anyone request they use it and the elders can't legally refuse due to licence conditions? Worth looking into.

I said to them i didn't think an organised religion is an exclusive way to God. That certainly the first century Christians weren't organised in such a way. They say that they was, that the early Christians met the first day of each week to break bread. This is news to me, they reckon it said so in Ephesians, but didn't show me the scripture.
I said to them that Jesus said, 'no one comes to the father except through me', now doesn't that mean that you don't need an organised religion to get to God, but only Jesus? They gave the usual response that i would have done all those years back. Then i said that Jesus said 'that where there are two or three of you gathered in my name, there i am also', now surely that tells me that i do not have to belong to a religion to have a relationship with God. They never really answered that.
I ended the conversation with, where i differ to you is that you feel you have a monopoly on God. They said, what? We do not believe that. I said but you believe you're way is the correct way and everyone else is wrong? They were silent, paused and said with a smile, well yes we do. So in that sense i say, do you not see how you feel you have a monopoly on God?
The conversation ended with niceties. I did actually enjoy the conversation, i think they must have thought i was just some nut or maybe a 'goat'. But i kind of got to thinking that this is not about trying to prove them wrong, but more about reasserting where i am at now. The fact that i can defend my stance and reaffirm that i do not need a religion to tell me how to think or to have a relationship with God.
They went their merry way still believing Joseph Smith is their prophet, but hey, they've made my day.

Left the WT but why the loss of your faith in God?
by Luo bou to insure the wt deceived you with its claim to be god's channel but why for so many is there a subsequent loss of faith in god ?
it puzzles me and makes me wonder why they were jw's in the first place..

I think many throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak, but then go to form their own beliefs. In my experience some JW's replace their beliefs step by step or brick by brick and never lose a faith in God. Others, including myself, demolish everything, then start with a clean slate.
Once we begin to question the teachings, we begin to question everything. It's a massive thing to realise that just maybe the WT is wrong, when a JW begins to question this, a big wide world appears before us that isn't as bad we've been told. Only then we begin to think for ourselves, discover new teachings, we have an opinion on just about everything from politics to the existence of God and what a great feeling it is to think for ourselves.
Why lose a faith in God? Because we can now to do whatever we want. Ex JW society then becomes a resemblence of society itself, some people believe, some people don't, we're now free to choose our path.

How did you feel about attending another church?
by digderidoo inthis question is for those who have attended another church since leaving the jw's.. i have considered attending a local church, firstly out of curiosity and secondly because i do enjoy discussing the bible with people and learning new thoughts on scripture.. the only thing that stops me though is crossing that line.
i guess it was a bit like when i first posted here, it took me ages to pluck up the courage and now what was the big deal?.
did anyone else have this feeling before attending another church, that feeling of crossing the line of no return.

Some good comments here.
When i talk about attending another church it's not so much the building i am speaking of, but more atending their meetings.
I have been in many churches, especially older ones just to admire the architecture. Westminster Abbey we a great experience, as well as the small medieval church opposite my old house. I have also been to weddings and funerals. But it's attending a meeting that i feel is crossing the line, that i have thought about doing but a bit apprehensive.

What IS Armageddon?
by cameo-d ini always heard armageddon would be a spiritual battle.. some people seem to think it will be some natural disaster.. jws seem to think it will be the very hand of god throwing lightening bolts.. .
is armageddon the same as "day of jehovah"?.
is armageddon when apostates of all religions become loud enough to overthrow the liars?.

I remember when HIV and AIDS came to the fore in the 80's. A number of JW's in my old cong thought that Jehovah could use it for Armageddon, that may be it was the start, that way all the JW's would be protected and all the evil sinners would be killed. A couple of elders had to difuse the situation and little counselling in the 2nd school was in order.

It may be a better idea to show her one or two things at first, or even just hint at them. If you show her lots of info the JW mindset just kicks in and tars everything as apostate lies.

Did anyone else have this feeling before attending another church, that feeling of crossing the line of no return. We've been indoctrinated with this 'false religion' notion for years, so i guess it's no wonder i am apprehensive about putting my foot in the door of another church.
Just wondered how others have felt about attending another church?
