Thank you very much, appreciate all the comments and from some posters who I remember when I posted here regularly. This site is great for the support, i recall spending alot of time here when I first got sober trying to come to terms with my JW issues. If it wasn't for the support received I may never have started the degree, it's great to have the freedom now to do these things and probably appreciate graduating more now than I would have done if I did my degree in my youth. There is a lot to be thankful for, which I started to appreciate later in life.

like many others i was discouraged from an education so that i could window clean and pioneer in my youth during the 80's.
having spent many years post my jw exit in alcoholism and periods of drugs, i decided to clean myself up 7 years ago by attending aa, i was still a window cleaner ... at the time i wrote extensively on here about my issues.

Thanks Phizzy, it's International Criminal Law that I am going onto to study. I have done some work already in the field of human rights, particularly with reference for lobbying countries who have breached international law by oppressing or imprisoning human rights lawyers.
I agree that the law around joint enterprise needs reform, that law has always been part of the common law of England, but in more recent years the police have used it for what has been criticised as a way of improving their conviction rate statistics. There is a need for the law, when a group together commits a crime, but it certainly is need of reform. That aspect of law is not something that I have expertise in, but the law is so vast, there are others areas, particularly around International law and human rights that I would like to further my interests in.

Like many others I was discouraged from an education so that I could window clean and pioneer in my youth during the 80's. Having spent many years post my JW exit in alcoholism and periods of drugs, I decided to clean myself up 7 years ago by attending AA, I was still a window cleaner ... at the time I wrote extensively on here about my issues. I am now over 4 years sober and longer clean from drugs.
I decided in my late 30's to get a degree, I have now this month graduated with a 2.1(hons) in my mid 40's. Since getting sober I have done some teaching in schools, done work for Universities and the Law Society, I have also set up projects across prisons to help with addiction and alcoholism.
It's never too late to start studying and gain back those years we lost. It's not been an easy journey, if it was everyone would be doing it, but getting an education has been rewarding. It has taught me to think critically and been rewarded along the way from gaining the knowledge and seeing a bigger picture of the world.
I have been accepted onto a Masters and the goal is to achieve a PhD in law by the time I'm 50.
The world really is your oyster to be lived and loved.

1. We haven't heard reports of deaths, will check into it
2. The people were killed, but by a faulty Palestinian rocket/bomb

Weird crazy rules imposed by your local Elders.
by stuckinarut2 inwe all know the sort of thing..... in many congregations, specific "rules" creep in...introduced by the local elders that become set in stone.. years ago, i heard of a congregation that sat down during the first song of the evening but stood for all others (the co changed that very soon after).
then there were the older accounts of congs that had rules to make the public speakers wear only white shirts.... in one cong now, i heard that brothers can only be used for sound or microphones if they do a minimum of 5 hours per month in the ministry!.
another cong has ruled that all appointed men must pioneer for at least one month each year in order to remain qualified.. .

Announced by the CO at the Circuit Assembly, sisters should not wear light coloured or thin skirts that could be seen through. The test was to get a torch, shine it through the back of the skirt between the legs, bend down and if you could see light the other side then it was unsuitable for a Christian sister to wear. He actually moved away from his lectern and demonstrated how the test should be done.

I was 36 when I started posting here. This weekend I celebrated my 50th birthday!
by nicolaou inand i mean celebrated!
it was a cracking barbecue party for around 40 good friends and neighbours as well as my 'never jw' cousins and one of my brothers and his family.. .
drank a bit too much, embarrassed my kids with some 'dad dancing' and laughed until 2 in the morning.

"Honour" Killing in Pakistan
by cofty in25 year old farzana iqbal was stoned to death by a crowd led by her own father and two of her brothers outside the high court in lahore yesterday.. her crime was to reject her cousin, who her family had decided she should marry, and fall in love with a man of her own choosing.. thousands of women are murdered every year in so-called "honour killings" but convictions are very rare.
pakistani law permits victim's families to forgive a murderer, but in these cases the killers are family members who are nominated to carry out the execution by the rest of the family.. this is what happens when you allow a mysogynistic religion to influence secular law.. reuters report...l.

The 1990 Qisas and Diyat Ordinance was amended in 2005 with section 311 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which allows the Court to override any compensation agreements arranged by the family. Section 311 legislates that the Court should give a minimum 10 year sentence for so called 'honour' killings despite any 'family pardons'.
