"Can you still find yourself punished, even sentenced to death, for blasphemy?"
Shafeeq Latif would clearly answer Yes.
Or ask Salman Rushdie.
If one who commits this "offense" isn't physically accessible for immediate capture and punishment, they can be sentenced to death in absentia -- and all of the "faithful" around the globe are transformed into deputized executioners.
We all know about Rushdie, and Latif too from this article, but countless people whose names we don't know have been and continue to be imprisoned and/or killed for the "crime" of blasphemy.
Is it right? Of course not. But does it happen? Obviously yes.

That is very poor form to grab and then repost files without attribution, especially files that were labor-intensive to create. I agree that the main goal is to share the information and make it widely available, but still that just seems wrong to copy and repost all of this material and not cite the source. Perhaps you could contact the person via his/her site and politely bring the omission to their attention? I would if it were me.

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 06-22-08 WT Study (MARRIAGE)
by blondie inmarriage and parenthood in this time of the end .
responsible marriage .
hence, those who keep on working hard to preserve their marriage because they want to remain faithful to their wedding vow deserve respect and loving help from the christian congregation.

Thank you for this, Blondie.
This particular study disturbs me greatly; I started to compose a post detailing the parts that disturb and offend me most, and why, but that quickly became too long and too unwieldy to share. I will try to encapsulate it all briefly though LOL.
First: How can the WTS possibly think this is a sustainable stance? My understanding is that most baptisms (in "First-World" countries at least) are of those raised in the organization. It's obvious that they seem to think concerns with family and children are taking time away from "kingdom pursuits," but doesn't this stance ultimately dry up their pool for the future? And speaking of the future LOL...
Second: There is much harsh emphasis on "the end is near, fast approaching, times of the end, blah blah blah." This did work pre-1975, and it almost reads like a replay of that. Does the WTS really believe it will work again though? It seems to me that NO it most certainly would not. But could it? It really doesn't strike me as an effective tactic that would fly now like it did then, as far as family planning.
I am just confused about what they're trying to achieve here. It's nothing new for them to attempt to control and subvert natural family dynamics and natural personal freedoms, but they seem to be turning more hard-line every day with this stuff and I am just not understanding how they expect this to benefit them beyond the very short term. I get that a lot of teens and young adults are "drifting away," but wow what a crazy and incredibly short-sighted counter-position to simply discourage marriage and children altogether!
There's a lot to feel sick about in this study, but to quote the thing that makes me feel sickest (relative term LOL):
"Particularly in this perilous time of the end, young ones need to learn from a tender age the moral principles by which to live. Children should be brought up "in the discipline and mental-regulating of Jehovah." (Eph. 6:4) This "mental-regulating" involves implanting Jehovah's thoughts in the mind of a child from its tender infancy on through the critical years of adolescence."
So, it's not in kingdom interests to marry and have kids, but if you do it anyway, you'd better "implant" the organization's "mental-regulating" thoughts in their minds from the day they're born. SICK SICK SICK.
The one good thing about this garbage is that I think a lot of the flock won't swallow it. Keep up with the hard-line craziness, WTS -- you're your own worst enemy in the long run. -

Sister dies (?) at DC
by DoomVoyager inno, this is not a joke.
having actually managed to survive through the entire 3 grueling days of the dc after attending the friday session today (hit sat and sun last weekend) i was initially going to make a criticism of some of the parts & points at the dc.
however, something that i witnessed today changed my mind.

Wow, that is very sad and truly awful. I wonder what those thousands of people witnessing this were thinking and feeling as it was happening. It's like a sick metaphor of how the rank and file truly rank in the eyes of the organization -- being played out in real time before their very eyes. I wonder if others who attended were secretly thinking some of the same things you were; many must have been. I hope so.
I think it demonstrates kindness and class that you dedicated this thread to that elderly lady. What a sad irony that those same traits weren't exhibited on the convention floor. -

I think the crappy artwork is the least of the problems on this page. The text is much more screwed up than the pictures.

Well, I'm not sure what it is you're even looking for, specifically. Be aware that "information on contradicting the religion" is a vast thing -- there is a lot of it. As I suggested above, go to http://www.jwfacts.com. There you will see links about various topics, some or many of which might grab your attention and apply to your situation. The information is well-organized and easy to follow. No one can just give you a list of "things that contradict the religion," it's going to take some research on your part. That site is a very good place for you to start IMO.
And listen to the advice others have already mentioned here. Stay focused on your education and your future, and don't go into a JW study/conversation/whatever until your eyes are wide open about what it's really all about. (In fact, my better advice is don't go into a JW study/conversation/whatever at all, but if you must, educate yourself first.)
Good luck :-) -

Well, you are currently on a very good site that's full of info. Read as many of the posts here as you can, check the Best Of section, etc.
Another site that gives a very good analysis of many JW issues is http://www.jwfacts.com. It covers all kinds of topics, is presented in a simple and straightforward way, and has been invaluable to me in my own research. If you're looking for "talking points" that detail the facts behind the deceptions, that's a great place to start. -

by jehovahsheep inhow do you think the end times are going to play out on the world stage?

I don't believe in a preordained "end times," and devoting your "now times" to worrying about it is a waste of the gift of life.
(And David Icke is a nutcase btw.) -

Well, the answer will depend on WHY she isn't speaking to you. I assume there is a reason :-)
