Excellent post, Met. This is one I will save.

how could anyone know objectively if they live in the "last days", if they fail to examine history?
how would anyone know if things were .
actually worse?

for all of you non-religionists out there: do you consider yourself an agnostic or atheist, and why?
it seems many ex-jws that "loose the faith" have a tendency to go straight for atheism.
i myself, would consider myself more of an agnostic, as i believe we have no real way of knowing if there is a god one way or the other, and it tends to seem just as extreme to me, to insist that there is not one.
Nice article startingover. Based on that understanding I would have to say I'm Atheist. I never really thought of it quite like that.

my mom called last night to tell me he passed on sunday.
he died peacefully and fairly painlessly.
my mom said she was talking with him, went to answer the phone, and 5 minutes later he was gone.
Brenda,
Sorry for your loss. You're taking it well though, hang in.

ok, seriously people, can anyone here say they honestly enjoy las vegas?
what an utterly depressing place.
my wife and i went there for a "wedding".
I have only been there on business twice, (stayed at the Luxor and New York New York), and I would say it is a pain in the @$$. Can't find the registration desk when entering the hotel, can't find your way to the rooms, no coffee pot in rooms, (big no-no), no iron in rooms. No high speed internet, and phones hardwired to the wall, so you can't even use dial up. The place sucks.

i have been lurking on these forums for about 6 months and thought it was time to join in.. i was a child/teen when i first became introduced to jehovah's witnesses through my mum who studied for a while but never fully committed.
i had a study and attended some meetings but it all petered out by the time i hit my late teens and we moved to another town.. for the following 10 years i just lived my life how i pleased.
got married etc.
Welcome Moomin!
I'm fairly certain that's a record. It took me 18 years.

i ask this because i have two or three that know my stand on things, but am unsure of how to go about getting on the offensive with them, about the wts.
they are reasonable people, and i think if i could just plant the seeds in the right way, it may get them thinking.
so, i'm asking if anyone here has any real experience doing the same with ones they consider "friends" who either are still or were in the org at one time.. j
Lady Liberty,
I would agree that the vast majority of "friends" are conditional. Some of those things there just sound unbelievable! There are a few, (at least 2, I can think of), that in my case would probably ignore the rules and continue to associate with me, albeit in a limited fasion, if I get d/f. Actually, the association is already limited by virtue of the fact of my known issues with the org, so probably little would change. As far as the rumor mill goes, I could care less what the "conditional" majority have to say. That too might just be a good thing, as those few who truly know me would also know that those things would be bs, and maybe, just maybe, it might make them think.

does anyone remember the old q&a sessions in meetings?
where all the dubs would answer as many questions as they could in x amount time?.
looking back, i remember not only was it super boring, (everyone was quiet and you could hear a pin drop) but it made sure all the rank and file were well and truly brainwashed mum/stepdad/friends used to all get their head down, scribbling away and hoping that they'd do well.
If you got a bad grade did you sent to the "back room", was there a "marking" talk somewhow involved???

jstalin, thanks for the book recommendation. I have ordered it.
Whenever an extraordinary claim is made, I want to see proof before I will profess any possible acceptance of it. In the meantime I will lack belief in it.
Good point. I have considered this myself. I just have certain questions about where ceratin human traits, (such as where inate ethical and moral values), come from. There seems to be no easy answer for this, and I would have to say it is most likely the reason for the human invention of religion in the first place, (and all of the bad that comes with it). Does a scientific explanation for that actually exist?
