Good story. You have a lot going for you, figuring it out at 19. Brave young lady.

i went to a used cd store tonight.
i was like a kid in a candy store.
they had a lot of the old records that i threw away because of a cult, now on cd.
What are these 'ceedees' you people speak of???
Ah, that sounds like a vinylphile to me....
I use a direct drive turntable, therefore I never encounter these problems.
I second that. Don't waste your money on a belt drive table. Unless you are willing to spend mega bucks for the good ones. A well designed direct drive unit, such as a Technics 1200, or Denon can be had for about $500, (US), and will outlast anything else in your stereo. This is also very important, if you plan to keep spining vinyl, as it probably won't be too long before you won't be able to buy a TT.

here is the link.
enjoy.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2eh2c9dgxq.
I have a Speakerphone. The tones come through when you dial loud and clear when dialing.
The tones are there. I can even hear the three 0's at the end. I don't remember the whole number, but it is something like 718-xxx-6000.

general apathy about religion.. i don't know precisely when it happened.
but at some point i began to stop needing anything 'organized' in my life religiously.
not too long ago - as attested to by multiple threads i started here - i was still wishing to replace the ritual of religion at the kingdom hall with some other church.
I know what you mean, Jeff. I went through many changes very quickly after leaving the WTS, in an attempt to "figure it all out". What I learned, is no one has the truth cornered, when it comes to these things. I consider myself more of a rationalist these days, with no religious or non-religious connotations attached to the meaning of the term. It's a very good thing...

That was the elcaset. I've never seen one IRL, but apparently the quality is excellent. If I ever see one, I will buy it (failing that, I'll get one off ebay). You're correct, it was Sony's attempt at providing R2R quality sound in a compact cartridge
Thanks, Nosferatu. I couldn't remember that for the life of me. I'll have to look those up.

I'm the self-declared format king! Audio: 4-Track, 8-Track, Cassette, Microcassette, Minicassette, LP (33, 45, 78), CD, Reel 2 Reel. Video: VHS, VHS-C, Betamax, DVC, CED, Slides. I might be forgetting a few. I know I'm missing a few, and I'm going after them.
Nosferatu, there was an audio cassette format introduced by Sony and Technics in the late '70s, (and only in production about two years), called J-Cassete? or something like that. Did you ever have one of those? They kind of looked like slightly smaller videotapes, (or slightly larger audio cassettes), and were supposed to improve on the cassette's audio performance, making it compete with R to R in the audio quality department. Can't find much about them on the internet, but maybe I'm calling them by the wrong name...

i sure tried to act spiritual in the beginning of my jw life.
i could go through the motions of being a good jw, but i just never could get turned on with being spiritual.i gave great talks and when i was an elder i could fill in for a no-show and never miss a beat.
however, my wife at the time always complained that we didn't do the family study or study the wt lesson ahead of time.
It is a good post. And, no, I was not a "spiritual" JW and was probably criticized. But, did I appreciate spiritual things? Yes, I certainly did.
No offense to anybody here but I always HATED the term "spiritual" as used by JWs.
The reason I hated it was that what it really meant, when translated to English, are you parroting the party line and doing your studying, meetings and service, etc. This is what the term "spiritual" means to a JW. I just had a JW friend tell me recently about an argument she was having with somebody who criticized her. She told me she told them "I am a very spiritual person.....yada, yada". I needed all the self-control I could muster to keep from rolling my eyeballs at this ridiculous and unnecessary statement she made in her "defense".
The reality is that we are very physical creatures who have an appreciation for spiritual things.
LHG, great post, very, very true. This whole issue of defining "spiritual" caused untold arguments between me and my ex. She had a take like the jw friend you mentioned above. Used to make sick.

Back in the '80s, (newly baptised in cult), I got rid of all my Led Zep, Black Sabbath, ELO, and bunch of other so-called "Satanic" stuff. I have replaced all of it, (mostly) by now, even on vinyl.
I do quite a bit of analog to digital conversion with a Yamaha HDD/CD recorder. 200GB of linear digital recording, (non-compressed, about 400 albums worth), on the hard drive. Makes extremely good copies of LPs, (and I'm a BIG analog fan, btw). I use a Technics 1200 with modified tonearm and A/T cart, as the source, (for any audio nuts out there).

so, as many of you know, i wrote a letter three months ago and told my family the goods about this cult... i think i was kind enough yet firm enought to get my point across-let's hope so as i'm not exactly ernest hemmingway when it comes to writing.
here's the best part to come of it.
not one of my letters was ever given to the elders; apparently i'm not going to be disfellowshipped for apostacy-which honestly i could give a big rat's ass less about that one, and best of all, the letter has made it even to people that i didn't even send it to which means it's being passed around.
As I said on my thread, this idea of yours inspired me to write my letter. Yes, if even a fraction of us did the same, we could make more than a dent!
To everyone else, if it's in your power to do so, do it!!! Not everyone can, for various reasons, that's OK. For the rest of us who may have the "luxury" of doing so, please give it some thought.
