***Yes, they have been saying things like this from Day One. Even so, I believe their doctrine of God using the worlds governments to destroy all religion is correct. IMO, we should watch for the United States and Briton to hand leadership of the War On Terror over to the UN, who will then be Divinely lead to determine that "religion" is the real problem and has to go...IMO***
While that certainly can be consdierd a possibilty, one needs to consdier a few things before such a statement can be said with any certainty:
1. Religions have been a root cause of most wars since for millenia. Any time a belief system, (whether it be religious, political or otherwise), is beieved to be the "right" one by a number of constituants, tensions will result, that can lead to conflict. History has demomstarted this many times over, not just in our present day.
2. We have a relatively limited hindsight when considering such events. Most of the time, we tend to consider world events from the perspective of our own lifetime. Islamic, (or any other religious), tensions have not seen this level of activity within my lifetime, so it can easily stand for me to reason that this situation is a "bad as it has ever been", without consdieration of other past religious conflicts, (Inquisitions, Reformation, etc).
3. Most people still have some sort of a "religious" sense. I find it extremely hard to believe that an organization, (UN or otherwise), could somehow convince people that all religion must go, just because SOME fanatics are overstepping human rights boundries.
4. The UN in itself is a VERY weak organization, and the US and GB have no real way to "give" power to it. Even if they could pass some "power" to the UN, how would the world's nations receive this? I can't imagine there being some overwhelming acceptance of such control by the UN. Sounds like much of a pipe dream.
One of the hardest things for humans, (present party included), to do is see beyond the "here and now". This includes seeing the past. We should remember this before we jump to conclusions.

Is a "Pure" religion an oxymoron?
by free2beme init seems that everyone i know who claims to be in the right religion, has the idea that their religion is some how more pure or perfect then all others.
whether is a christian faith as a whole, or an individual sect of christianity.
yet, no one seems to be willing to see that their religion, has, does and will do the same.

...This is in fact, the exact reason I can't accept any religion anymore.

Free2Beme, I agree with you fully on this. There is no such thing as a "pure" religion, and I seriously doubt there ever was. Historical evidence clearly does not support it. The trouble with trying to get various religionists to understand this is, they tend to somehow feel that thier god has "preserved" thier faith to a point where the modern incarnation of it must be "right". It's a matter of faith to begin with, so unless someone is willing to open thier mind and consider the actual evidence, it is unlikely they will ever accept they alone do not have the "pure" religion. Basically, they reason the same way we used to reason as jws, just on a broader scale.

****Oh I also hated having to worry about hurting everyone elses feelings if I had a beer in front of someone who objected, or listened to music that someone else didnt like. Its nice being able to make your own decisions without worrying about getting grief from some easily offended zombie***
Probably more than anything...

Baptism - To Whom?
by mavie inthanks to drew for originally posting this in one of sagan's threads.
in light of the questions for baptism, specifically question 2:.
(1) on the basis of the sacrifice of jesus christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to jehovah to do his will?

Letter read at meeting
by Iforget inmy family told me today that at the service meeting instead of the experiences of pioneer's being read, instead a letter from the society was read.
talking about how natural disasters are happening increasingly and that all should be prepared.
food, batteries and water and above all else phone list.

Congregations used to always keep phone lists of all publishers in the cong. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think this is done anymore, (I know they stopped doing this in my previous 2 congregations). I wonder if it is because of legal liability issues, (the WT is increasingly concerned about such things). This may explain the stress to publishers on keeping such lists themselves.
