While, I would not condone an abortion, (say, in the case of my girlfriend), I do believe it is a personal choice. I have no issue with gays whatsoever. My future sister in law is gay, and a wonderful person.

when you saw the wt for what it was and realized it was not the truth, how did that affect your thoughts on subjects like homosexuality or abortion for example.. did you start to think differently suddenly or did it take a long time ?.................or maybe you havent changed your minds on what the wt condemns.. i was quite shocked at how i accepted my teenage son was sexually active and i talked to him about condoms and this being an important thing in his and gfs life and where they sure they were ready.
i didnt tell him not to do it !.
actually i think i always had my thoughts on different subjects that werent in line with the org, i just pushed what i really thought to the back of my mind.. there are many different subjects name one that you relate to.. .

How can you reason or show a Jehovah's Witness
that there religion is wrong without it becoming
an emotional contest? How did you separate your emotions from your
intellect to arrive at your present conclusions
regarding the organization?
I'll answer these in reverse order. I was only able to make a successful "separation" of intellect and emotion concerning the organization only after enough tough lessons in life taught me that what I was being taught just didn't seem "right". Not that I didn't have doubts about many things long before that, as I assuradly did, it's was a matter of coming to a point in life where I just began to "know" WITHOUT even realizing it. At that point of really "knowing" something was wrong, only then could I begin to look objectively at the facts.
So to answer the first question, reasoning with a true believing jw is ALMOST impossible, unless they themselves have already come to certain conclusions within. I pick and choose carefully those jws that I intend to present any conclusions to. IF they appear "ready", due to marital failure, disfellowshipped loved one, etc, then it is quite easy to present facts, without fear of being shut out.

i will be interviewing for a position at the university of southern california.
the pay is not going to be that good to begin with, but i have mitigating factors, my son who is a junior this year, can get in and i won't have to pay a dime towards his tuition.
his dream is to go to usc and to play for the usc marching band.
Here come the thoughts...., (hey it's dinner time and I'm getting hungry).

a big thank you to those who created this board and for all the amazing people who post here.. truth be told (no pun intended) i have seen other religious boards out there but never felt compelled to join since i didn't feel qualified to speak one way or the other regarding their beliefs.
this board is another story.
i was raised as a witness but never thought so many people all over the world had a similiar past as i did.
Welcome backed away! How good it feels to be out of that mess!

i think most "worldly" people consider jws a nusiance---especially on a saturday morning!
they hate being bothered by peddlers at their door.
some people can't stand the witnesses' smugness and self righteous attitude.
I remember being told by the po after I had handed my da letter in that I have a duty to infform any jw who tried to speak to me of my status as da'd so that they don't try to pursue a conversation with me.
That's what I hate the most. How delusional and arrogant they are. They seem to think that anyone who leaves the org must "know" it's the truth, and leaves for selfish reasons. What bullshit.

i know it has been talked about before, but does anyone have information as to when jw started banning beards.
my wife is telling me that it started in the 60/70's because of the hippies, but i know i read somewhere on here that it was much earlier.. .
Towards the end of my time "in", I grew my beard several times, (my ex-would always make me shave it off, though). I do remember a KH remoldeling we did, (in 2002, w/o RBC), where all of the elders grew goatees and beards during the construction period. How rediculous that "no beard" policy was.

i remember being a teenager and my hormones were on overdrive.
the young witnesses i knew, male and female, were all feeling the same thing.
we would bring up sex, in one form or another, all the time.
Later he explained, that his bride was so hung up in guilt over the act, that it was often an awkward and less then exciting experience.
My ex-wife.

curious as to what exwitnesses have become or believe.
i haven't joined any religous group and do not attend any services.
(have visited a church's service)
Atheist by one definition. Agnostic by a different one.

we are all doomed to death, i think by the end of this year too, so we dont have long .
i heard that the work is going to stop, that would be kindof nice here since it is so cold in the winter and knocking on doors waking people up is really lame in the first place, i often wondered why we had to hit the streets so early and make people so angry?.
well supposely this new track is hitting him where it hurts, they are out right telling people they are going to die at the hands of god if they do not join up with the jws right now.
Its almost as bad as saying 'I am a Jehobah Witness'.
How 'bout Jehoverrrr?
j
the reason i heard constantly by the elders, as to ones spiritual progress in the organisation was, .
"brothers are appointed by holy spirit.".
if this is the case, why is god speaking to himself when he says in 1 tim 3 v 6 .not a newly converted man, for fear that he might get puffed up with prideetc.. to re-iterate if god appoints elders, why would he give himself this advice ???.
Let's see here, I heard "You need to maintain the monthly publisher average", after doing this, I heard "You need to be more VISABLE in the field service". Well, I never granted them that second wish, and just disappeared completely.
