  i recently came across this warm, encouraging letter i received from an elderette.

  background info: after going to the elders twice for drug problems, and of course getting no help, i told them i had decided to see an outpatient detox doctor.

  being depressed and scared, i needed support and so asked this "sister" to go with me (my bad).

  Yea, I knew you guys could appreciate that letter, and relate with comments/letters of your own. Scully & dsgirl - notice how the borg is always trying to guilt-trip us women with the ol' "your children are gonna die" line? Pretty sickening.

  But seriously, I enjoyed reading it again. It reminds me of how far I've come! You guys are all WINNERS for leaving that CULT! Remember THAT your next "bad" day!!

  I was looking at my calendar. It was on December 13, 1999, that I went with you to the doctor. I still remember you told the doctor that you were one of Jehovah's Witnesses and that your religion took up a lot of time in your life. That bothered me then and it bothers me now. When I call and you don't return the call, I know that something is up.

  In the 12 weeks that have elapsed, we have had 60 hours of meetings and a two-day assembly. Is your religion still taking up a lot of your time? One thing we learned at the assembly was that Jehovah teaches his people to benefit themselves, Isa 48:17,18. You can't be taught if you don't go to school. I wonder if your doctor feels that he has accomplished anything.

  Please evaluate what is going on because your life is involved. And remember your kids. You are in control of their lives also. If you need me, call.

  Encouraging, huh? Yes, my life is involved. That's why I made a commitment to staying clean and alive - so I could help myself and my kids. My doctor did accomplish something: He encouraged me to go to 12-step meetings every day. (Funny, not the KH). December 13, 1999, is my clean date. I'm glad I did evaluate what was going on. I decided I was in a cult and needed to separate immediately. Ironically, the elders had no advice for my drug problems, but once I was seen smoking cigarettes, they were suddenly interested. I'm so grateful I never have to deal with this phony, hypocritical bitch ever again. Her P.O. husband sucks ass too.

  my global statement

  i am so off this planet.. i have had so much therapy in the past, i dunno, forty years, that it makes me "sick".. i have learned to speak in cognitive-speak.

  i have learned to think in cognitive-speak.. i have survived jw-endorsed "therapy": a jw-sanctioned therapist in northern virginia who could "cure" dissociative disorders in just a few sessions.

  she learned this technique from the "society" and therefore, did not charge for her services.

  My Family

  as many of you know alot of my family are jehovah's witnesses, i was a 3rd gen, untill i left over 10 years ago, however my brother, dad, and sister all have doubts now, they see the hypocrasy, my brother is fading away, my dad is ready ray franz's books, but both my dad and sister are staying witnesses for now, thinking they can change it from the inside, which i know they can't, they see the hypocrasy, in fact my sister is dfed and she's trying to get reinstated, stating she's doing it for my mom, who is still fanatical about it, and she said she want's her husband to try to get a job through one of the brothers, she said she's just going to play they're game and use them.

  i tried to point out how wrong that is, and how on a level it's exactly the same thing they're doing, she even confirmed that in other country's witnesses can vote, they can at least in venzuela where she was living for the last couple of years, where she met her current husband.

  it's funny out one side of the mouth she agree's with me how hypocritcal it is, then goes on to defend certain aspects, always dancing around the subject, saying other religions aren't any better, and i asked why do you need to be a member of a religion if you believe that?

  North And South.

  having finally accepted that the united kingdom is not the centre of the universe - i know, it hurts, it hurts - i have been boning up on some american history for a change.. first off, i have been watching a series on sky that deals with the american civil war.

  wow, what an amazingly complicated conflict that was.

  i was astonished to learn that the the uk was about to switch it's allegience fron the north to the south purely for trade purposes so as to keep it's cotton mills spinning.. secondly, i have been swotting through my encyclopaedia's for more information about this conflict.

  As a native Texan, I can say that there is still a great deal of prejudice here - not only to African-Americans and other minorities, but also to Northerners. Lots of trucks around here have a gun rack, NRA sticker (National Rifle Association), Confederate flag, and a bumper sticker saying "Yankees, Go Home!"

  True story: On Juneteenth (June 19 is African-American Emancipation Day), one of my neighbors drives his truck around town with a 4' by 8' Confederate flag waving out the back.

  I'm fortunate to live in Austin, Texas - the most liberal city in the state. If it weren't for Austin, I'd be in Colorado.
