  Firearms And Shooting...

  i thought i would open up a thread on firearms and shooting.

  personally i was raised around firearms as my dad was not a jw.

  some of my earliest memories are of my dad teaching me how to put a round in a fleas ass at 200 meters.

  That being said, I am very heistant about purchasing a gun without any education on this. COuld some of you post sites that will teach me what type of gun is appropriate, and are there places were I can be taught gun safety & be able to practice shooting?

  Every area I have ever lived in had at least one good gun club. Most of these offer a personal protection course that get you on the right road. Also if you can afford it, I highly recommend the training at Gunsite.

  I see you live here in CA, its getting hard to find open land to go set up some targets and blast away.

  Dang, not around my neck of the woods. Way northern Kalifornia here. Remember that it is legal in KA to carry open in the National Forests, (rural area) and shoot there. You just have to be more than I think 300 feet from a campsite. I have never ever been questioned by any cop about my shooting or the .45 on my hip.

  I've heard of cop's giving shooters problems.

  Its been my experience that around here cops tend to stay away from gunfire, when back-up is two hours away.

  i attended two days of the dc.

  the only three points that i took home with me is that the end is near, higher education is a no no, and that the brothers have a problem with pornography.

  i was in amazement at the number of witnesses that take notes as fast as the speaker is talking.

  Scuba Diving - advice please.

  i have my final dives this weekend to qualify as an open water scuba diver.

  i have to admit i'm nervous so if anyone here has passed can you let me know what to expect?.

  all tips would be appreciated.. nic'

  Did anyone else take the advanced class "back in the day?" Manoman, I have a very clear memory of the following during my advanced class - I was at the bottom of a quarry in about 45 feet of water. It was time to demo my emergency accent. I had three instructors all around me, and they began to beat the water with their fins to stir up the muck and reduce vis to zero. Then one of them reaches over without warning (and without me feeling it) and shuts off my air. Two and a half breaths later, and I'm out of air. I then dropped my weight belt and pulled the emergency inflator on my BC (they don't make them anymore as far as I know) and pushed off to the surface. I was very paranoid about holding my breath, so I did the "blow and go." Man I must have come 5 feet out of the water when I hit the top. LOL.

  I hear they don't try kill you now during your training.

  um.... you can go for your dive master after only 50 logged dives. In fact padi just changed their's to 20 dives!...

  Yes, diving since 1979. But there was a vacation from it while I got married and raised a family.

  There is a difference between a Dive Master, and a Master Diver the last time I checked.

  Dive Master in 20 dives? I really doubt that, considering the training and experience required. That is unless they have seriously dumbed down the requirements. The last time I checked though, it was 20 dives just to be admitted into the program, with 60 more to graduate. Master diver on the other hand was 50 dives and five specialties - and that was what I was refering to. All I had left to do was take one specialty. But I have been out of it since I moved to the left coast.

  And I pretty much quit logging my dives after a 100 or so. But I have "cards" for: Basic Diver, Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Nitrox, Navigation, Deep Diver, and Wreck Diver.

  I have also taken part in Ice Diving, Night Diving and Cavern Diving - about 60 feet back in a cave.

  Click, click, brrrrrrrr, tic, bump. - That was the sound of me permanently placing Kid-A on ignore. It has become very obvious that he is a 10 percenter.

  BTW I have a fallout shelter, not a bomb shelter. And I never cared for communist weapons. - Though I do have a few Mosin Nagant M44's, most of my Curio and Relics are German Mausers.

  Perhaps we can just shake hands on this one and agree to disagree. In the UK, to call someone a 'twit' is not so much to give offence as to nudge an elbow into the ribs - a tease. Still, if I gave offence I apologise.

  I think that might be an excellent idea. Talking about Scuba diving would probably not result in as many ruffled feathers. LOL. - Unless maybe we start talking about spear fishing, and what spearguns are the best.

  someone i knew stood up at the convention to answer her two baptism questions both with a "yes".

  she was having an affair with a married brother at the time.. but i'd top my 'biggest lie' list with four small words; "in the beginning, god"

  One thing I have learned is not to underestimate the cultural rift between us and our friends across the pond. There's little you can say that will change anyone's mind on gun ownership (And this isn't the discussion forum to do it anyway.) That kind of epiphany has to be experienced.

  I agree. Maybe I should just ignore the ones that imply that I'm a three toothed, knuckle dragging, inbred, gun tote'n hillbilly. (Actually the gun tote'n hillbilly part isn't far from the truth though.) And I have never set out to convert anyone. But I sometimes do feel the need to defend my beliefs, and the things I stand for.
