I attended two days of the DC. The only three points that I took home with me is that the end is near, higher education is a no no, and that the brothers have a problem with pornography. I was in amazement at the number of witnesses that take notes as fast as the speaker is talking. What the heck are they writing down? What are they hearing that I have not head a hundred times before???
It was sad to see the number of older witnesses that were listening and clinging on to every word of the talks so they would not miss a single word or new light on how close the end is because these older ones know that their clock is ticking down and it is a race to what comes first their death by old age or disease or the end which has been so near for their entire life.
One more little note. The final talk, which is always the highlite of the assembly, the speaker was talking about how close the end is and how world conditions point to the nearness of Armageddon. Then a few sentences later he announced that "you will be pleased to know that the Society has made plans for district conventions for 2007" and every one applauded! Don't they realize that the end is so near but it will not be at least in the next 12 months.
Back in 1974, one year before the promised year of the great tribulation in 1975, the last speaker for the last talk of the DC said "that if it be Jehovah's will there will be a DC next year. We will have to wait and see." Everyone went wild applauding, including me, because we knew that we only had one more year to go until the big day. That was 33 years ago. How can the witnesses continue to keep in high expectation?
