I knew the Merton Campbell! You're right, he was a great guy, very friendly.....back in 79'! I don't know what he's doing now, but i'd bet good money he's still at the big house in Brooklyn.......GYMBOB
anyone know merton & olga campbell from bethel,.
met them years ago at bethel nyc and thought they were an amazing couple - very hospitable and warm... merton i think is quite senior at headquaters , but seemed more liberal than most .. also anyone know olaf stephenson from watchtower farms, was a really nice fella and often wonder what they are doing with their lives today?????.

this was such a sad exhange and just shows how unnatural this bogus rule by the wbts is.. i see my moms name on the caller id and i immediately pick up.
(keep in mind we live 2 blocks apart).
my mom says julia?, and i say no mom its me, you must have dialed the wrong number.. mom: oh, i'm sorry, how are you?
R~
Sorry for the way things are for you now, it made me break down also 'cause i'm going thru it too. I hate that religion! Bob
i know a lot of this has already been hashed out before, but for my own personal mental health i feel compelled to post this stuff.
who knows maybe someone out there can use it towards their freedom.
so here is the last letter my wife and i submitted to the elders: .
Jim~
A very good letter! It should go in the "best of" files for sure.
I'm glad i'm not where you are anymore my friend. So, here's the best advice I was given when I had to deal with it....... DO WHAT'S RIGHT. It's kind of ironic, but, that's the one thing I suppose I really learned from the whole witness thing....even if you know it's gonna hurt (and it will), even if you're pretty sure your wife, kids, and all your friends are going to turn their backs on you.... DO WHAT'S RIGHT. If you do that, you can live in peace knowing THEY have the problem, not you. It's not easy, but it's worth it. GYMBOB

if you could know the answer to any question...what would your question be?
How about.....how big is the universe? And what do you find after you pass the end of it?
.
hello all.... sat around the campfire this weekend and laughed our butts off coming up with jeff foxworthy type humor.
it was so funny we thought it would be fun to run a thread here... i'll start.... "if your only yearly vacation is a "trip" to the district convention...you might be a jw.".
If you don't have any books in your home, but only "publications", you may be a dub........
If you choose to never talk to your son again because he's not in your religion, you may be a dub.....
If someone at work says, "good luck!", and you don't know what to say back, you're a dub.....
If you've spent 3 days at Dodger stadium with thousands of people, and never seen a baseball, you're a dub.....
If you think a man having hair on his chin is, "rebelious", you're a dub.....
If you would rather spend Saturday night needing to get your Watchtower studied for tomarrow's lesson instead of doing ANYTHING ELSE on a Saturday night, you are a hopeless dub.....
i didnt see an introduction topic, forgive me if this is not the forum.. my name is kyle.
i was born into a jw family in 1981. i spent my child hood not only going to every meeting but also in a home schooling program ran by some of the congregation folks with children.
extremely cut off from the world to say the least.
Welcome Kyle, and good job getting out on your own!
Getting other family members out is a hard thing, and you're right, sometimes it seems that the best thing to do is let them stay in and not destroy their dreamworld. That's the way I feel about my parents, but they're in their 70's now....my sister's another story.
Keep posting buddy, I have a feeling you have more stories.....GYMBB
i was talking to my little brother tonight to let him know about my surgery tomorrow.
we got to talking and he has been posting here, too.
he's a lot more in to deeper subjects than i am.
Good for you, what a cool thing! i'm jealous.....GYMBB
yep, september 1st is upon us.. what shall you do?
pioneeer?
aux pioneer?
I worship at the golf course these days, and my goal is to put in enough hours to break 80 this year. Pray for me......or do the hokey-pokey, whatever makes your boat float. GYMBB
so... i finally have thought about somethings that i want to say in my letter to disassociate... in my last topic starter regarding this, someone had meantioned disfellowship papers?
why would they be sending disfellowshipment papers if i take myself out?.
in the letter, i am thinking about making the one to my friends kinda short and sweet and to the point.
BabaYaga~
Welcome! And good post!
If I had it to do again, I probably wouldn't DA myself. They wanted to meet with me to DF me when I tried to fade. Just let them do what they do. I know it's hard, but....... dont give a crap. Don't give them the power they want over you.......never, ever again.
have any of you had the experience of eating with the bethel family?.
what were some of the idiosyncrasies of it?.
as i mentioned before in another thread, it was brought up to me by another jw guest after the meal that it was "as if this was like a cult" when everyone would drop their utensils on que, stand up in unison and end the meal with a prayer.
I was at bethel for a few years back in the 70's, and almost ALWAYS the tablehead was a elder, sometimes there just wasn't any around (dinner time) so some brave up-and-coming guy would need to sit-in, but it was rare, not forbidden.
Morning was assigned seating, afternoon and dinner you could sit anywhere. If you didn't show up for breakfast, you could expect a visit to your room right after the closing prayer by your tablehead. Table heads would decide which way the food would be passed after the first prayer (some guys would try and sit to the left or right of the head to get first picks on the food, so the head would decide, "we'll pass this way tonight" to prevent that sort of thing).
I always felt the meals were very much like the military would eat, so never had a problem with it, and most visitors I ever ate with loved the style and being part of the whole "bethel thang".
The food was always pretty good, and REALLY good the afternoon of the Gilead Graduation. They would let us off work a few minutes early that day. Some, mostly couples, would go to their rooms for a glass of wine or something with friends before going to the dining hall. You could almost always expect to have something special like prime rib on that day. I remember one graduation meal when Freddy Franz thanked Jehover for everything on the menu...carrots, peas, etc.
