Good question....
Not sure about active members of the bethel fam, but I can verify that there are a number of us very rank ex-betheites here!
i am wondering now if brothers like j.r. brown, or perhaps someone in the service department might do a ray franz.
the more i think about the convention this past weekend, and how desperate brother pierce sounded, the more i think things are really getting weird in new york.
when i was there, it was like a fortress of faith, at least to me.

one day after a sunday meeting, 2 elders got into it with each other and started screaming at one another in the back of the hall just as service arrangements were being made.
of course, the boe counseled them strongly but the result was that the congregation lost respect for the whole body.
NO. I had 2 elders come over to my house, sit me down and tell me how bad it was that I let my daughter play Volleyball on the school team. Now, both of these guys are in their 40's and neither of them even has kids! One of them tells me, "Even though we don't have any children, we know there are some decisions like this that are very hard to make as a parent". Then I told them that this wasn't hard at all, and it was really a no-brainer. (That didn't go over too well...)
They didn't want to reason. They didn't even want to talk about it. I had to get her off the team or else I was going to loose my "privs" .....
I felt like telling them, "Hey, I have an idea....how about letting me raise my kids the way I choose, and you guys can go outside and practice falling down!!"
How do you show respect for idiots like that?? Gymbob
i often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.
while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).
a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.
Minimus~
I knew Bruce, we sat at the same table for a while....
Does anybody remember Jim LaBrenz? He was a tall, white guy from Texas who worked in cardcutting for a while. I often wonder what happened to some of these guys. Gymbob
my wife has been studying for a short while with a sister from a local congregation whose husband happens to be the po of the congregation.
they are not presently doing a conventional bible study, they are doing a topical study, having done heaven and paradise earth, next week (when he shows up to chat with me and answer some of my questions) the topic may be either generation or michael/jesus.
in a phone conversation with the po husband, i had asked him about the last days section of the 1989 reasoning book and the statement 'the generation that was alive at the beginning of 1914 is now well along in years.
Darth frosty is right on! But, it must be worded in the correct way to TEACH.
Ask the question, "Could it be possible that the WTS has always made changes (got "new light") after the prophecies failed because the prophecy failed??
The person answering would be forced to answer yes. If they don't, ask, "You don't think that's possible? Then you're saying that it's impossible?"
Now you have planted some seeds of doubt.....Gymbob
tremble when it thunders, and the window panes vibrate and you can hear the sloshing sound of rain against the parched roof baking in the august heat?
do you drift back in time when you hid your face in a pillow from the thunder and shaking walls and could scarcely think of looking at the magic monster in the clouds?
what name do you hear when the sound of the thunderous rainstorm calls?
Frankly, I make popcorn and pull up a chair.....Gymbob
That's my neighbors! Sorry, forgot to fill that part in!
In a town as small as mine, most JW's knew when I DA'd a few years ago. When the dubs call at his house, he just tells them, "Hey do you know my good friend Gymbob who lives right over there? He used to be a Witness!"
He says they just turn around and walk away!
i just heard george benson on the radio.
got me to thinking - is george benson still an active witness?
I met Benson at Bethel too. Also, when he came through town a few years ago many witnesses went to the concert.
John Denver had some of the JW literature but never studied. He had a good friend (musician, ex-bethelite, now ex-dub) named Wayne Stuart who witnessed to him. He did not hate witnesses. I knew Wayne before he left the borg back in the 70's. he performed the marraige for my sister and bro-in-law in the kingdom hall. Wayne also cut a album back around 1980 that Denver played on. Whatever happened to Olie Riley?
He was a very popular guy in Brooklyn back in the 70's, I think he went though Gilead and was sent to some place like Fiji. Gymbob
had any of you seen any demonstrators at bethel when you worked there?
i am curious as to what any of you thought of them when you seen them holding signs and passing out pamphlets to jws as they were all walking by.
if any had seen them, did they have any impact on your life in any way?
Any of you ex-bethelites remember Mr. Coffee????
