Why is it so hard for people to be kind ?
by oldflame inrecently i have noticed a difference in peoples attitude towards others.
i remember the day when others would open the door for you or smile when they look at you.
i remember the day when you were merging onto traffic and people would let you in.

All white girls are.........
by Gill inmy daughter has been 'going out' with a black gentleman for the last year.
they are very much in love by the looks of things and have long term plans.. however, opposition has recently come from somewhere i did not expect.
it turns out that he has been very upset with his mother since she made several unpleasant remarks to him.

Funny thing is... as some of my friends on here know I've just been on a tour of the US and as a lone traveller I talked to all kinds of people. I've been so chilled and had such a great time literally wandering around America and a bit of Canada, but only literally 5 minutes ago, I went to the shop and had some kid in my own neighbourhood pull a knife on me. Just some drunk stupid kids. I phone my girlfriend, and she says, "it's single parent kids... that is what",
I guess I'm learning something to blame the crime around here on, single parent kids. Am I prejudice already?
Are you prejudiced already? On current evidence (as I know it) yes.
Remember that correlation is not causation. And you can't say that all kids will commit crime if they are from single parent families. Also to identify that single factor is probably giving it too much importance. And there will be other people who commit crime who are not kids from single parent families. So to blame all crime on them is prejudiced.
If you were to say, a kid from a single parent family is statistically more likely to commit crime, that wouldnt be prejudiced, because (hopefully) you know of actual data that backs this up. But (I assume) you know of no evidence that all crime in your area is commited by single parent kids, so to blame it on them would be an example of prejudice (a preconceived notion that is not based on reason or actual experience).

Maybe moshe forgot to mention the something else that he didnt like about this kid. But if that something else was the sole reason for writing the story, it seems a huge oversight to forget to mention it. He has full opportunity to correct himself.

How can you say Moshe is a bigot if you don't even know him? By recognizing the unwritten implication in what he wrote earlier, that he was not happy about a black kid dating his daughter, because he was black (the only characteristic of this kid that moshe seemed to think was worthy enough to note).
And by assuming that he wrote what he did earlier because he is either
a) proud of it
b) thinks its funny
c) both the above
And thus we conclude he is a bigot.
Bigot: a person who holds views characterized by prejudice and intolerance.

Example of racism stemming from ignorance.
In the UK black kids are very more likely than white kids to do badly in school, and more likely to be remanded in custody.
So you might conclude from this things such as, black kids are inherently badly behaved, other things you can probably imagine.
Yet when you look at the statistics, you notice that black kids are more likely to be from a poor family, and more likely to be from a single parent family.
And when you compare like for like, e.g. poor white kids with poor black kids, or white kids from single parent families with black kids from single parent families, things even out, or there is much less difference.
And even when there is still a difference, race is still not going to be the cause of that difference There will be a third factor, then a fourth, then a fifth.
For instance, poor white kids do worse in school than poor black kids. No-one would say thats "because they're white".
But when people they think they see the opposite they will quite possibly say its "because they're black".
The problem with this ignorance of the facts is that it prevents the root causes of these kinds of problems from being tackled.
It's a unfunny irony that a racist attitude helps lock in place the very situations that contribute toward people being racist.

Funny ain't it. The average BNP member wouldn't p**s on a Sikh if he was on fire.

ok beat this one I went to school with a guy called Danny black as the ace of spades, joined the NF became a skinhead and went on neo nazi marches , believe it ? Well its true , but a stupid story , of no benefit to anyone , not encouraging
Reminds me of a news report of local elections earlier this year. The reporter went to a place where the BNP (British Nationalist Party) were expected to do well, asked people in the street what their opinion of this situation was. A black guy wandered up, said he was going to vote BNP too. Seemed very honest, I guess it was a backward way of trying to fit in ('its not me, its them, Im with you'). People have some funny logic. -

Jayhawk - A mixed child that is half black and half white for instance would not identify racially very well withmay experience racism from either side. Have you ever heard somebody say, "He ain't black enough..." I have. Have you ever heard a white person use the expression half-n!&&er?Ooooh I get it. The mixed-race kid causes other people to be racist by his very existence. It's his fault, so he shouldn't have been born.
No that can't be it. What's your point again?

Lets get one thing straight here it is physically impossible to be racist if you have dated people from other races No it's not.
Racism is not just about negatives. It's about judging a person according to their 'race', when the characteristic being judged has no correlation with 'race'.
Person A (who is 'white') might think that 'black' people are on a par with 'white' people. So Person A might date a 'black' person. But at the same time Person A can hold the view that 'oriental' people are degenerate. Person A is racist.
Person B (who is 'white') might think that 'black' people are superior to 'white' people. Person B is racist.
