That story was exactly what the teacher wanted. I would give them an A+ too.

Are We Missing the Bigger Picture???
by drew sagan inwe all pretty much have come to the same conclusion here that the watchtower is a corrupt system that controlls it's followers.
through websites, tv, and books many have put in alot of time exposing the teachings for what they really are.
but is there something going on in the organization right now that is even bigger than the false doctrines, something that shows they are in the planning stage of something that's even more corrupt than what is going on now?

Yes, I was noticing something like this too. There's an elder in the hall, a nice old man, who started congregations in Israel and in North Dakota. He loves to talk about WTS history (careful to be dismissive about 1975 and not mention any blunders, of course). One thing he made sure I understood...these folks nowadays "didn't study like we used to!"
"My dear brother, you should've seen the articles from the 50s and 60s. So chock full of rhetoric. It was very deep," he told me one time. "In fact, in the field ministry, you didn't have a good day until you had a knock-down, drag out fight with someone about the Trinity. We used to be so argumentative. Now if they won't listen, we just say 'Good day' and take our leave.
He told me about the anti-children stance in the 70s: "Back then, when our daughter was born, people looked at us with shock. 'My goodness,' they would say. 'Surely you can't be thinking of starting a family now?' And I would just say, 'Well brothers, this new elder arrangement is going to take some time to mature. I don't think we're going to have good elders until twenty years from now. So the end can't be in a few years.' " -

WT desparate: Aug 15 WT- In Our Next Issue: When A Loved One Leaves Jehovah
by truthseeker inno, i don't have this article yet, it will appear in the sep 1, 2006 wt.
it may even be a wt study article.. in the august 15 watchtower, the box "in our next issue" has three forthcoming articles, and one of them is "when a loved one leaves jehovah".
of interest, it's not when a loved one leaves the society, it's jehovah.. will keep you posted.

What filth. I'm glad I scanned it briefly in my house, so I can go downstairs and take some Pepto Bismol to help with the feeling of revulsion I've got in my stomach now.

Special Campaign announced for September: Creation vs. Evolution
by sir82 inwe had a boe letter read recently.
the september 2006 awake will be 100% dedicated to the "creation vs. evolution" issue.. even the "young people ask" article will be something like "how can i defend my belief in creation in school?
also, i think one of the articles is entitled "does the bible support the notion that the earth was created in 6 24-hour days?".

Interesting that they should want to press with that campaign. Even the de-scienced (compared to the 1985 book) Creator book was frustrating to many of the brothers and sisters in my hall, so I heard.
No joke, one time I came out of the KH and I complained about the brightness. "I hate that it takes so long for my eyes to close," I said.
"Well technically, it's your irises that need to close because they are open too wide right now," my friend replied. He got me good! I was caught sounding like a dum-dum.
"Well....this is God's House! Science has no place here!" I retorted. Another older sister heard what I said and quipped, "Amen brother. You tell him to stop getting all high and mighty."
Science really has no place amongst the incurious and ignorant, indeed. -

Well, what can I say on this one? I'm a chauvinistic, semiliterate adolescent. Naturally Gary's style of writing appeals to me. :) -

For some of us, fading away isn't an option--at least not yet anyway. There's no way I can fade away, not surrounded by two generations of family and all the friends I've ever known in my life. The only way I could fade away would be to move far away and sever all ties to everyone I've ever known.

What's proper...
by serendipity inwhen you post on someone's topic, do you expect an acknowledgement from the person who started it?
if you don't get an acknowledgment, would you stop posting on any other other topics by the person?
i personally don't expect an acknowledgement from anyone.

I try to respond quickly in topics that I make. But this forum is weird, because new threads are at the bottom and you have to scan every topic to see the most recent response.

DC Drama: Mosaic Law == Being a Witness
by under_believer inokay, so i want to talk this one over with my wife, but i need to kick the idea around here a little bit first.
i apologize if this has already been covered.
at the district convention this year, they did a bit about how jeroboam didn't want the 10-tribe kingdom going down to jerusalem, so he tried to set up calf worship and his own set of festivals, etc.

Under_believer, I don't think you're being off base. I didn't like the drama because it wasn't very entertaining, but I can really see what they were getting at now. Especially the dig about missing the first day, that was pretty corny. Wasn't Jesus' yoke supposed to be light? I guess that doesn't matter anymore. I'm getting really aggravated with the diminishing value of Jesus and the emphasis on laws and rules.
I'm starting to notice that they've always couched their most ridiculous demands in a humorous light. The missing first day bit in the drama was one example. Case in point, there was a skit where a brother was browsing for news reports about witnesses, when suddenly he stumbles upon an apostate site! "Oh NO!" he hollers. Big laugh from the crowd. "I'd better turn off my computer right away!!"
And that is how they will keep people from finding the truth about the WTS. -

That's not fair. We were told that if we left stadium grounds to get food, we'd be struck by lightning.
