JW and the Year 0
by GermanXJW ini am afraid this got a bit lost in this thread: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/10/116944/1.ashx.
so i start a new thread.. the wts claims in the revelation-book on page 105, (footnote in the box):providentially, those bible students had not realized that there is no zero year between "b.c.
" and "a.d." later, when research made it necessary to adjust b.c.

Has anyone else been referred to as a "New Wave Apostate"
by 30girl inone of my friends parents referred to us (my sweetie and i) as "new wave" apostates.
has anyone else heard this term, been referred to as one?
i was just wondering if this is a new attempt to squash critical thinking?

hum.........my first thought is by "new wave' they mean we are the next big wave of apostates since the big first really major wave, at bethel and all, wave of them in the late 70's and 80's.
That makes sense. Though I would be interested to find out when this "New Wave" started...if it were possible to chart the amount of apostates produced each year!

"New Wave?" So when did it start? How are they different from--I'm guessing--old school apostates?
I doubt whoever gave you that moniker knew what they were talking about.

guidlines for dress and grooming as laid out by CO
by bluebeads inso the co visited my cong and at the ms and elders meeting the brothers were told that those wiht parts on the platforms must not have sideburns, mustaches, beards or shaved heads because it is worldly.
as well bright colorful dress shirts are not permitted eother because it distracts from the "important message" of the talk.
there was also heavy counsel on tattoos.. on a totally different topic, i was talking to my mom the other day and she was going on about how free she would be in paradise.

Hooray for man-made traditions!!!
I guess this CO would have an issue with me out in Liberal Dub-land. Our PO has a moustache, everybody wears colored shirts no matter what, up until Sunday there was a brother with a completely shaved head, and I sport nearly earlobe-length sideburns. I understand what he says about tatoos...no way could I look at a speaker with neck or facial tatoos and not glare at them.
Otherwise he is just making people jump through unnecessary hoops. But guess what? You can't murmur about it! Because you'll die if you do!

See J.R.Brown's answer in latest NEWSWEEK re: giving Christmas gifts to JWs
by AndersonsInfo insee newsweek september 4, 2006, page 12, "with beliefnet.com".
fourth question:.
sub-forsanta, a nonprofit organization i work with, donates gifts to families in need every december.

They adopt needy families and we all know how loving the organization is to its needy members. Is it any wonder the family seized on any chance to be provided for? I'm merely surprised they didn't find a way to hide it better. Unless they were actually slyly encouraged to do it and make sure Newsweek was tipped off so JRR Brown could get his quote in.
Maybe the family themselves decided to tip off Newsweek. I don't think they could let other people in on their plan. But yeah, I do agree that I guess you would do anything to provide some fun times for your kids, if you were poor...

Aussies/Canadians of JWD most laid back~
by FlyingHighNow ini was thinking today, i've been here at jwd for nearly three years now.
i've observed that our aussie members are the most laid back members on the board here.they don't take their country, their politics or anything too seriously really.
people who are from europe tend to be more laid back than the brits and americans.

Bethel meals
by Alligator Wisdom inhave any of you had the experience of eating with the bethel family?.
what were some of the idiosyncrasies of it?.
as i mentioned before in another thread, it was brought up to me by another jw guest after the meal that it was "as if this was like a cult" when everyone would drop their utensils on que, stand up in unison and end the meal with a prayer.
-
SirNose586
Wow, I would totally not have that. I eat slower than most, and more than most, so at mealtimes I'm always the last to finish. No way would I do that little cultish ending. I bet they'd kick me out for "causing divisions."

I don't have any problem with what JR Brownnose said...I'm just kinda curious why this dub family agreed to be sponsored by Sub-for-Santa. I wonder if the family suggested non-holiday wrapping paper...?
