Was Simplification the Downfall of the Watchtower?

a thought i had daydreaming while at the recent convention .

old timers in the organization often reminisce about the way the wts was many years ago.

attending a convention meant (a) getting hot meals, (b) orchestra music before and during sessions, and (c) two, three, or even four dramas.

The apathy is becoming a little more evident in my congregation. Our account funds used to hover between 1,300 and 1,000. Last night they read the accounts and we had a $400 deficit. After those two "resolutions" about the CO and the KHAA, people are NOT ponying up enough dough.

The funds on hand at the end of the month were close to $500. This is the least we've had in quite some time. I saw a sister march up to the box with a wad of bills...but let's face it....nobody wanted to pony up for both resolutions. At the end of the accounts report, the brother giving the announcements had a detectable note of weariness in his voice when he said, "We thank the...congregrations for their fine donations this month."

Our congregation was asked to give over $1200 (both resolutions), and I'm not sure how much we got, but I don't think it was much over half that amount.

this young man is in his early 30's, unmarried, and now history.

Aussies/Canadians of JWD most laid back~

i was thinking today, i've been here at jwd for nearly three years now.

i've observed that our aussie members are the most laid back members on the board here.they don't take their country, their politics or anything too seriously really.

people who are from europe tend to be more laid back than the brits and americans.

The problem Sir is that we have always been tightly wound even before 9/11 or before Bush No. 1 and Bush No. 2. I cannot figure it out. I think it may come from feeling that Americans have something to prove. Does that theory come across as the Bully in the School Yard, a Policing Nation or as a Concerned Neighbor? I think as to the rest of the world it comes across and 1 and 2 of the three options. Maybe if the U.S. of A sat back and allowed others to handle their own problems we would 1) have a better handle on our own problems (hello and happy birthday Katrina victims); 2) not be universally hated by most other countries; 3) not waste billions of dollars trying to drag a country out of something that their own people do not want help out of (the list of this crap could go on for pages ... but you get my point).

Well, we seem to be pissing off everyone we try to help, so yeah, I'm all for just kicking back and not being the World Police.

my food and drink goes flying, and i shoot daggers at the stupid brat.

What car do I see this woman and her brats get into, why a brand new Volvo, with a plethora of anti-Bush and pro-leftist bumper stickers on them. I just shock my head and smiled. Isn't that typical. Being a leftist means never having to be responsible nor apologizing for your mistakes.

Ah yes, the good old fashioned generalization: the brilliant tactic of applying a unique situation to an entire categorization of people! Carry on in your fight against the dreaded Liberal, fellow soldier!

I'm glad I could finally read that Kerry-Louderback Wood article. No wonder they had to scramble and come out with that Awake this summer!

I remember another thread on blood floating around here, and some of the points really made sense:

1. The Bible says that eating blood is wrong. But even if there is some blood left in the meat, that's okay because you've drained most of it. So I guess as long as you don't eat too much blood, that's okay...?

2. JWs argue that taking a blood transfusion is the same as consuming it. But if this were true, could you transfuse blood into a starving person and expect that person to live? Why doesn't your body consume your own blood when you are starving? It's because the blood is used for transportation of nutrients, oxygen, and waste--not for nutritional benefit.

3. Is injecting something into your veins the same as consuming it? I hear jokes that people make, that they wish food or alcohol could be injected directly into the veins. But this doesn't make any sense: if injecting (liquified) food into your veins were the same as consuming it, then why would we have a digestive system at all? Anything injected directly into the veins does not go through the digestive process, and therefore does not yield any nutritional benefits. Blood carries oxygen, but if you were to inject sufficient oxygen into someone's veins, they would suffer a heart attack and probably die. Blood cannot break food down into its nutritional elements; it can only work with the end result of digestion. If you were to literally eat blood, then that blood would be broken down by the digestive process and then distributed through the circulatory system.

4. JWs argue that blood taken outside the body cannot be put back in. If this is the case, then why allow the use of fractions for JWs at all? You're using fractions of someone else's blood that has been taken from outside of their body. So let me get this straight: taking fractions of someone else's blood (that has been stored outside the body) is okay, but giving yourself your own stored blood is wrong. Furthermore, the JW is not allowed to donate blood. How can this greedy attitude be justified? The inconsistencies are truly staggering.
