Russell's influence today is nil. I went to the county fair and there was a booth for The International Bible Students Association. They had a portrait of Russell there and a chart of his "Divine Plan of the Ages." I remarked to my sister that it was interesting to see the Bible Students here; after all we both claim the same founder. She really didn't have any response to that...so naming Russell as the founder might not click in the minds of dubs. Rutherford hijacked it and made into the [dys]fun[ctional] organization that we all love!!

Should Charles Russell be credited as the founder of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by slipnslidemaster inthis has been on my chest for a while and i would like to talk about it for a bit.
i've been reading this essay: "the successor problem" and it's sparked this thought that has been reoccurring to me for years.. .
i personally think that he should not.

The Second Emergent Type of "Faders"
by metatron ini was having an interesting conversation with another witness who's nearly faded away.
he made an interesting point that corrected me and.
touched my heart.. i wondered aloud if there was "any limit to how stupid the organization could collectively become".

Excellent points, Jourles. It's a poor business model, one that cannot be sustained indefinitely.

Ive never found ironing delicious myself, its just a pain in the ass. I especially hate doing shirts. I dont mind ironing tea towels tho.
It sure is, I hate it as well. Fortunately I have someone to do it for me now, Trev actually doesn't mind ironing.
You two are a hoot! I'm referring to a Simpsons quote. Bart tried to sound smart and he ended up saying "the ironing is delicious" and then Lisa corrected him and I think they got into a scuffle. All of my nerd friends get it.

Inside the minds of N. Koreans -- AND JW's
by Rabbit inhere is a sad, scary story about a whole country of isolated people whose news and knowledge of the real world around them is strictly controlled -- and the effect upon their minds.. this story reminded me of what happened to me during my 35 years 'in' the wt.
does it remind you of the same mind-set ?
it sure helped me understand the danger of extreme politics & religious dogma.. .

The parallels speak for themselves, eh? It's the closest nation we have to 1984, it would seem.

If they sold that place to another religion, wouldn't the ironing be so delicious?
Good looking out on the info, happy man.

Hmmm..So they claimed to be a prophet..yet this SCAN says they DON'T??
by Lady Liberty inok.. so..as i posted on a recent thread scans of many places the society claims to be a "prophet", see here:http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/10/122290/2160659/post.ashx#2160659.
notice this claim.. and note too that it was only 7 years before 1975:http://www.jwfiles.com/scans/aw10-8-68p23.htm.
and now look at what they wrote after the big 1975 let down:.

Awesome story. Leaving a pumpkin on a KH porch would be pretty funny. I remember hearing that someone decorated the KH in Christmas decorations, also really funny....

Special Assembly 2-Day 2,000 delegates and TWO baptisms!
by MinisterAmos injust got back from the special one day assembly and had to share this important info.
only two baptisms today; two girls about 15-16 out of 2,000 attendees.. i stumbled more than two with my anti-witnessing.
i posted un expose material in the bathrooms along with pre and post nov 1995 1914 generation belief.. incidentally, attendance was down almost 25% over last year as well.

It's funny about you saying they never get anything important done. Their secular work is usually minimum wage, they make no social contributions, they invent nothing, they teach no college classes, they help no one.
Good observation. I forget who mentioned it, but someone mentioned how sad it was that the better a dub you are, the less you've done in life. Dubs who don't get married, don't have a full-time job, don't get an education, don't question, don't think, don't complain, don't better their community in practical ways, are looked upon as better than the ones who do all these things.

A CO that doesn't dismiss higher education? I'd like to meet this man! At mine, higher education, pensions, and retirement plans like 401(k)s were "NOT to be trusted." You can't have it both ways, Borgtower. You can't have dubs scraping by month after month, and still have all the money you desire.
At mine there were 7 baptisms in nearly 1000 attendees. Less than 1% baptized means the numbers are not being replaced.

Beards and bald heads
by parlay inwhat do you think about the wts prohibition on beards?
currently in the us, i think a brother can wear a beard, he just won't be used in the congregation.
i see all references in the wt to beards are in a negative light, such as the supreme court upholding a supermarket chains no beards rule.

So all the brother's (meaning black guys) started shaving their heads. They wanted to say something but how could they, 'hey brother your head is bald' yeah just like henshel's.
It's definitely a double-standard. One brother who recently left our hall had big tats and a purposely shaved head (poor thing, he was balding at 30 so he got rid of it all). But the PO was his brother in law, so no cousel there.
Black guys can go bald, really anybody can go bald if they want to...it's your connections that determine if you get bothered for it.
