Also remember, that QFR was written during the UN DPI relationship...they couldn't be discouraging the vote.

Got a few giggles from another discussion board RE: "Why don't JWs vote?"
by razorMind inre: serena williams' comments about jws not voting......of course the non-jw members wanted to know why.. the first giggle i got from all the non-jws posting who wanted to know why she could dress so skimpily, pursue her tennis career and wrap herself in the american flag while still proclaiming to be a jw.
i'd go so far as to say all of the non-jw posters were questioning this.. the second giggle was the expected knee-jerk defensive reaction from the jws on the board......i.e., "here we go judging people from appearance again," and "how come nobody's judging this celebrity/that celebrity?".
then, the expected "how come everybody hates jws" comment from another one.

Cool. While not against drugs per se, I am concerned about addiction and abuse. Meth looks very taxing on the body.
Meth'll make you look quite unattractive...you've got those meth sores on the face, not to mention meth mouth...

That it is higher in the US will be due to reasons beyond the baseline, and are likely to be related to the way drugs are mystified and not dealt with honestly (just as the teen pregnancy and STD issues the US sees are likely related to the way sex is mystified and not dealt with honestly).
You've definitely got a point in the sex-ed department. Ignorance is only creating more out-of-wedlock babies.
There are positive signs pointing to decline in meth abuse in rural Montana. It was all due to a well-created ad campaign that spoke to the target teen audience. As I recall, the numbers of new meth users plummeted statewide, and they are using the tactic in other states.

Phone witnessing's nothing new. When the summer sunlight fades, phone witnessing resumes on Wednesday nights. Good thing I never got sucked into that....

Ran into old JW friend in the airport...Correspondence has ensued...
by Confession init was the same weekend that my mom and dad, to my surprise, agreed to meet with me.

Oh, that "you don't have anything better" line sticks in my craw. Number one, there are plenty of better afterlifes than the JW one. Instant pass into heaven? Nope, you don't get that. A planet of your own, in which you are god? Nope, not in the JW plan. Unity with everything in the universe? Nope. In fact, the JW afterlife sucks. You have to be a janitor for 1000 years, conduct Bible studies with everyone and STILL ATTEND MEETINGS, and even then you're not in the clear! You still have to pass another test, and this is all contingent upon Jehober letting you survive to pick up trash in the first place!

Supported by no data whatsoever, I'd say boredom, curiosity, and unhappiness are the three biggest contributors to drug use.

Education and apostasy are the same, right?
by easyreader1970 inover the past year or so, i have noticed that the watchtower has been jumping all over two "threats" to the organization: higher education and apostasy.
many times they speak about them in the same article.
they also have been focusing on them in the assemblies and conventions.

SirNose586
Easyreader that is how I remeber the view of apostasy. At the time it really was seen as more of a label for the person who was putting an effort into trying to turn people away. That's the way it came across to me. I am not saying those are the facts it is just the way it was expalined to me as a kid. And our family was full of oh so special office holders. Both sides.
And that's a common view, buckster. Some months ago I was talking with friends about the definition of apostate and I told them about the "new and improved" definition of anyone who doesn't believe 100% in the FDS, period. They don't have to go spreading their views. The crime is now merely independent thought. They were suprised to hear the readjusted denotation. I wonder why they didn't do this sooner, really. The apostate is their scariest label ever. Any stories from the dubs involving apostates always included stories of how "frightening" they were! Kids nowadays--barring the fundy brainwashed ones--aren't scared by demons anymore. Time to make a new monster.

Move is Complete! Life is Available!
by Metamorphosis inso my move to a new city is now complete.
it comes at the expense of losing my wife and my life for the past 30 + years - i still somehow feel at peace.
my wife cheated on me.

The unknown can be a scary place. But i decided once the wifey chose some old guys in new york over me that it couldn't get any scarier than that. it's amazing how much i've learned to grow, to love, to understand, to embrace, and to open myself up to since i stopped letting man made rules govern my life and really listened to what it (life) had to offer. i have a closer relationship to god, to people, and to myself than i have ever had before.
it's a good feeling.
Morph
I'll remember that. Thank you.
