The Writing Department's use of "Exclamation Points". Anybody else find their use cheesy? Or motivating possibly?

something i've been meaning to ask for a while since coming here, is wsup with the writing department's use of exclamation points?

i'm no literature buff or anything, but to me personally, the exclamation points cheapen whatever they're trying to get across.

here's some examples from the new jeremiah book.. how thankful we can be for the teaching done by christian shepherds!.

The exclamation mark seemed to be the Society's way of giving their words excitement and importance. If the prose they craft cannot do it, neither will punctuation abuse.

Elder "predicts" how many jws are going to live

parents went to a jw gathering to read the wt for this week.a jw said that only 5 people out of 125 in my congo will survive armageddon and then that elder said: "no,not 5 people,maybe 20".

damn i don't have words for him.

That odious practice of judging which JWs would be fit to survive the GT seemed to be a natural result of applying those same rules to outsiders. Why bother stopping at the uninitiated? Surely there are slacker JWs to account for: those meeting-dodging, occasionally-preaching backsliders. There needs to be some way to categorize them. After all, being baptized and generally present isn't good enough. The solution comes naturally: they ain't gonna survive.

District Conventions: The Single People/Wanna Be Married Opportunity

as the conventions started today in my home state, i can't help but think of the hundreds of jw young people that i know who are still single, esp those over 25. it's really sad that for so many this is their only chance of finding somebody to date.

some that i know have even crossed over into their 30's, and they go year after year, always talking about the possibility of meeting someone special.. the organization literally controls their minds, and dating and marriage to a non-jw is out of the question.

it's so sad that so many have missed out on their life's dreams of having a family and companionship.

Never had the ability to do that in Qualcomm, but I probably would have done that if I could.

Yeah, I never really had the nerve to try and meet anybody at the conventions. It just felt like the cliques from the congregations were now out in the sunshine. You had to know the right people, the right sets. I didn't figure that out.

DVD "JW's Faith In Action, part 1 Out of Darkness" Omits! Omits! Omits!

i've been watching the new dvd and it is a bull fest about russell.

i haven't even gotten half way and they already excluded one very important bit of information.

you'll recall that russell "lost" his faith and "turning away from church creeds and searching for truth, russell examined some leading oriental religions, only to find these unsatisfying".

I overheard my folks watching the DVD last night. They talked about the Rutherford trial and of course, left out that the reason why they were released from jail was because writs of error had been claimed, and there was no point in retrying the case as the war was over. All the new DVD now says is, "President Wilson looked at their jail terms and felt that these were too excessive. [Some months later], all Watchtower officials were released from prison, and the charges dropped."

Oh yeah, I'm glad to be out of that mess. The only good thing to do was stand above crowds at the stadium and look down at all the sisters...

This Week's Article - Young People's Baptism

this is the first study article from the april 15, 2010 watchtower, titled "young people - strengthen your desire to serve jehovah.

" i hit paragraph four and i just had to pause to comment.

i am pretty darn sure this is a softening of the jehovah's witness stance regarding the appropriate age for baptism.

Talking to two J dubs on a busy downtown street

so im out of town for a couple of days for a software seminar.

it didnt start until noon yesterday so i took a walk down a busy street famous for its shopping and as i got to the end of the stores and the beginning of apartments i noticed two women standing on the sidewalk in front of what i later noticed was a kingdom hall.

as i started walking by giving them a smile and a polite greeting the one that was older, they were both young based on my terms the older in her 30s middle to late the younger in her 20s probably late.
