Will they Eliminate the District Convention?

ok, i am now guilty of feeding into the "big announcement" frenzy on the board!

another poster made an interesting suggestion that the "hypothetical" big announcement may be the elimination of the d.c.. i think this is a real possibility.

its been cut down to 3 days from an original 8 days over the years.

Back when they still used it, the WTS had an arrangement in place with the city for the jw's to clean the Astrodome from top to bottom - just before the DC, and right after. The city got the 'Dome back in better shape than any 'paid' cleaning crew could do before or after any sporting event. The cleaning day was a BIG deal. It usually happened just a few days prior to the DC starting - sometimes on a weekend. Boatloads of jw's would come out for the Big Clean.(hell, it was always in the newspaper. why not show up and "give a good witness?") Mind you, none of these jw's get paid to clean the 'Dome.

We have the same deal down at Qualcomm. Probably why we have it so good with the City. The contract is good until 2010. I'd feel bad for anybody having to drive up to Long Beach or LA!

Elders/MS, what would you do?

i understand there are active elders and ministerial servants on these boards.

if a witness spoke with you in private about doubts/questions they have about wts doctrine or the like, would you encourage that person to continue investigating?

what if that witness outright declared the organization as a wicked or not directed by god?.

That's a good question, as I'd probably not answer their request in a safe way. I'm not sure how I would word my response to accusations against the org or the gb, but if the person were asking about doing some independent research on a particular org doctrine, I'd say, "Any research you do on doctrine from an outside, respected source is sure to confirm the truth to you." I'll run with that. Any research on doctrine (like 607) is sure to confirm historical truth--and besides, it has the added meaning of cofirming The Truth TM , so it doesn't sound like I'm endorsing anything wrong.

Oh boy...I've heard when we were about to have memorial, "You know brothers, this could very well be the last memorial..." and people would always buy it hook, line, and sinker. The same elder that spread that stinker now goes around saying "last hour of the last day" in his prayers.

I don't think this is an overall congregation practice(maybe so!) but I know of a "strong" JW family that will watch movies such as "Hell Boy", "Xmen" etc..and even let ther kids play games such as "Halo" or any other violent game...

Sounds like a cool fam to me... There's one family that has a problem with dragons. If you have any clothes with dragons on them, they will ask you to turn it inside out, or not wear it around them in the future.

i have been one of jehovah's witnesses for about 9 years before i became inactive.

i just had some comments i'd like to make.. i think the reason why i'm inactive now is because i've come to a point in my life where i feel obligated to admit that i just don't know.

at one time i was as fiery and zealous of a witness as anyone could be but i had this nagging feeling that i really didn't know what i was talking about when i was witnessing to people.

All this that I've read about the WTS becoming an NGO affiliate of the UN seems to be a mountain made out of a mole hill. To those of you with this kind of talk I have to say you don't know all of the circumstances involved or the communication between the UN and the WTS. Neither do I. It's not fair to outright call someone a liar when you know that you don't know all of the details. It makes no sense to grab at whatever you can to bash someone.

Ok, so I don't know all the details about the UN thing. No one here can. But we can at least take them to task for their justification, which was that "we were just getting a library card."

I have a document which proves that getting a library card and becoming an NGO is not one in the same. You can get a library pass without becoming an NGO.

So, why is associating with the "horrible UN that dares to make itself king over earth" now ok? If the relationship was so innocent and inconsequential, why did they have to lie about it? And why won't they disclose the ongoing NGO relationship that still exists in Europe?
