Isn't it great that you're going to capitalize on two very sad incidents that could have had less casualities with more stringent earthquake building standards? Ugh, gimme a break...

Ambushed!!!!! Fam'ly Intervention!
by sd-7 inlast night, i went to my parents' house to wash clothes--or so i thought.
apparently, someone's been talking.
so...i get slammed for listening to people on the internet.

His concluding remarks to me in private were, "I wasn't sh** to you. F*** you." Then he stormed out of the house.
Warm, Christian love, eh? Sorry your brother was such a colossal a-hole to you, unfortunately, that's just uninhibited rage brought about by too much Kool-Aid consumption. I'm glad you can pity him for his blindness to what's really going on.
Yeah, I can remember that whole quasi-suicidal feeling in the most precarious of moments...
You're a good guy, sd-7, and it will become more apparent as the days go on. You said, "I'm free. Sort of." I know that feeling. I thought, "Why doesn't everything feel fantastic?" Well, it does...just give it time.

JW's and Selling Stuff at the Hall
by lepermessiah inmy wife got an invite to a "party" and got me thinking...... one of the biggest things that used to annoy me was how many members of the congregation were involved in those mlm sales schemes or "work from home" companies and they used the kh as the hub of their business.
many of those companies are very legit, and i have no problem with people selling that stuff, its just that people would use their field service tactics to pressure others in the hall to buy stuff.. every week, a member of my family would get invited to a candle party, cosmetics party, tupperware party, vitamin party, etc......you could go bankrupt just from the constant flow of parties and feeling obligated to buy something.. the sad part was that if you turned down the invite or went and didnt buy anything, you would offend the selller!.
then, they would always run around and deliver their orders before and after the meeting (unles the elders put a stop to it), otherwise you would see them out in their car after the meeting distributing everyones' orders.. .

Oh the Noni juice...
That was a little fad that swept the halls for a time. Seriously, people....drink pomegranate juice if you want more vitamin C, you really don't have to get sucked into this stuff.

Will the FDS start demanding a "pledge"?
by hamsterbait inremember how the bible students had to make a pledge, among other things "never to be alone in a room with a member of the opposite sex, except a sister, mother or daughter?".
do you think they will start to demand a "pledge of alliegance" to the borganisation?.
will those refusing to make it then be summaraily df, since they have shown by their refusal, that they do not believe that the gibbering buddy, is the appointed "fds" of matthew 25.. how likely is this do you think?.

Might it go something like this?
I pledge allegiance to the Tower
Of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society
And to the Slave, for which it stands
One organization, under the Slave
Triumphant
With meetings and field service for all

Toyota Stuck Accelerator
by PEC ini just don't get it, why can't people shift into neutral, when this happens?
in the 1980's, i had a car accelerator stick a few times; before, i found out it was the floor mat, this was a very powerful car for it's day, about 240 hp.
i learned to pull the floor mat down every time i got in the car, no big deal.

I didn't think Priuses (or is it Prii?) could go that fast.

So.....do you or don't you want them to come after you?
by Quillsky ini've noticed an interesting dichotomy in these discussions.
as a starting point, i understand that we are all different --- there is no "we" here except that we have all been, or been involved with, jw's.
but this is interesting..... some people complain about being "hounded" by elders and shepherding calls and previous "friends" and so on.

SirNose586
I'd prefer to not have the elders say another word to me. There were a handful of cool people that I'll miss, but I have better friends now. It's regrettable. But it's just the nature of the beast.

Going to skip this years Memorial for the first time.
by Beta Male ini'm already being stalked by the elders, thanks to my wife.
they had a "shepherding call" for three hours while waiting for me to come back to my house.
if they're that determined, i'm somewhat concerned about their reaction to what i'm going to do.

SirNose586
Right on. It'll be my first time doing the same.

Never Had Strong Feelings - Did You Experience that as a JW?
by cognac inwhen i went to a funeral and i cried cause i thought it was what you were supposed to do.. went to a wedding and didn't really care, just was happy cause everyone else was.. there was just never any strong feelings, except depression of course.. but anyways, did you guys ever experience that?
no strong feelings as a jw?
now that i'm coming out, i'm noticing that i'm starting to actually get more feelings... not sure if that's a jw thing or just cause i'm seeing a phychiatrist now... however, i do notice that with hubby, no strong feelings.

SirNose586
Oh yes, I learned how to numb things. How to be detached. Because strong feelings--extreme happiness, sadness, etc.--were never looked upon as good. I'm undoing that bottling up of emotions, and it feels better to do that.

QFR: Should marriages be arranged for true Christians in the congregation?
by sd-7 inin many cultures, arranged marriages are a common practice.
often this involves the parents of both parties making specific arrangements for their children to marry upon reaching a certain age.
sometimes there is money or property given to the parents of the bride as compensation for the loss of her efforts in the household.

The elders would then file a copy of said marital license in the congregation file, sending a copy to the Society using the new form am-236.
LOL! I could see them doing that. Gotta have the bureaucracy in play.
