Like insearchoftruth, I also have been wondering what specific medical practices would not 'be allowed'. For example, would an exchange transfusion for a new born with an "unresponding to other treatments" case of severe jaundice, be allowed?

Blood, with fractions allowed, what 'transfusions' are prohibited
by insearchoftruth ini know very little about medicine, but from the reading i have done on this and other boards, i understand that the matter of conscience to allow blood fractions has most likely saved many lives.. very few tranfusions done today are whole blood, but i don't know how many.
was wondering if anyone here knows what portion of transfusions that take place are not allowed..

2008 WT Library Question (1st JWN posting too!)
by yknot inokay, i haven't been really paying attention to all the letters read to the congregation in the last two month.. this week it was some stupid announcement about mandarin chinese and the keep book being mp3 audio-ed on jw.org (if a publisher is computer illiterate, a cd can be ordered from the organization-but a brother who is tech savvy should offer to burn one instead of incurring cost to the slave).. then i realize i haven't heard squat about the 2008 wt library (cd or dl?)..
so i just checked my 07 wtcd and we have daily texts until the week of march 5, 2009 feb 26, 2009.. does anyone have any info on the 2008 wt library?.
is it going to be a dl or cd?.

Feedback for my next Freeminds article on how to use my Tough Questions Series....
by Tuesday inthese are only portions of blood, even when combined they do not make up full blood.
these are only portions of blood, even when combined they do not make up full blood.
if when blood is separated its no longer considered blood, then why dont you accept blood transfusions in general?

I am not sure if you are able to add footnotes or a link to information, but I think it would be good to link out to a source for
"Blood transfusions are not transfusions of whole blood, it is transfusions of only the red blood cell. There hasn’t been a blood transfusion of whole blood since 1982 and in the more developed countries far longer."
I will claim ignorance in that I did not realize that myself. Very good to know.

I commented about apostates today at the meeting
by cognac ini couldn't help myself.
it was so obnoxious what the paragraph was saying about apostates.. so i said that having a difference of opinion is not a problem but really as brought out by thessolonians it is when a person raises themselves up above god to have people follow them instead of god that they are considered bad in god's eyes.. i don't even know if it had anything to do with the question, but i just wanted to say that, lol..

I am wondering - was Jesus an apostate? Didn't he created divisions amongst his Jewish brethren?

Scan needed, the Forty-Two (42) fundamental beliefs
by Fatfreek inthe following quotations are from the kingdom ministry, december 1983. the announcement is about a "brochure to be featured in congregation book study".. as announced in the october issue of ourkingdomministry, congregation book studies for the weeks of january 1 through february 5, 1984, will be conducted in the brochure jehovah'switnessesinthetwentiethcentury (1979 revised edition).
.... the study for the week of february 5 has been set aside for considering page 13, dealing with "what jehovah's witnesses believe.
" forty-two fundamental beliefs are listed along with supporting scripture texts.. i can't find reference to the "forty-two fundamental beliefs " nor this brochure on my wt library on cd.

There are a number of DVD courses by Bart Ehrman available here: http://www.teach12.com/storex/courses.aspx?t=&sl=&s=909&fMode=s&sbj=Religion . I know the prices seem steep, but you may wish to actually call the places about pricing or keep an eye on the web site, as they frequently have sales for their courses at a fraction of the list price. I've got a number of courses from them and I've liked them.

What happens if you show up at the DC with no badge?
by JeffT ini'm thinking of going to one this summer to research an article i want to write.
back in my time anybody could just walk in, but some recent threads sound like that might be hard to do.
i'm also going to try to get a local paper to give me one time press credentials.

Something to consider; the audio of the convention may be simulcast on the radio so if you were concerned about going in, just get close enough to listen to it on the radio. As others have said though, dress nicely, dont make a scene or spectacle and likely no one will even look your way.

One can only hope the best for him. As the article states, this is indeed a story waiting to be told/documented on film for mass public consumption; win or lose.

This collection of material is remarkable! Can not wait for part two! I would think (should it be so desired), that this could be turned into a book to be published (and sitting on book shelves at major book stores) as a religious critique of the WTBTS.

How can I help my wife to get out
by Albert Einstein ini am fading out after 18 years in jw cult (pioneer, ms, elder etc ...).
my wife was born in jw family, very strong family bonds, very loyal to jw.
at home we can talk pretty open, but she is so blindfolded, so loyal, not willing to admitt jw could be totally wrong... is there any chance to help her step by step?

One of the best eye opening things that can have some good effects has nothing to do directly with WT material or teachings and that is to watch movies/documentaries that include situations that show social injustices. Documentaries/movies about cults and/or histories of affected peoples (e.g, African-Americans, Native Americans) can turn on a light bulb when it is seen that some of the same reasoning/argumentation used for the repression of peoples and/or thought is used by JWs to justify their position and behavior towards others.
