Has Golden Calf ever been found?
by cameo-d injust wondering, is there any information as to how big it was?
how did desert wanders carry around so much gold?
wouldn't it have encumbered them?

ok the fact that this thread generated 3 pages of answer is really funny.
If it had been about a GAY calf you'd have doubled those numbers :)

Don't have a cow! Golden Calf II
by cameo-d inok. here is another question about the golden calf story.. just suppose this is some sort of allegory or symbolic message.
why would they choose a calf as opposed to a bull or a cow?.
a bull, i could understand.

Errr just guessing here but a "calf" is sexless, it has the potential to be either male, and good for breeding or female, good for breeding and milk plus a calf by definition is young and healthy. If you were going to give someone a present you'd rather give them a young calf than an old bull or cow that might not live for much longer.

Err?
What deserts have you been wandering in? I'm far from an expert, but isn't wood generally found where trees grow?
Have you ever visited, or at least seen photos, of the desert where this group with the population of Miami was wandering? How many trees did you see?
Actually Ive been in at least 3 deserts, never been to the one mentioned in the bible though. In all three deserts I've seen dead dried out vegetation. Most deserts have wet spells, plants spring to life flower and die leaving dead plant material that you can burn... Think tumbleweeds. Also think back to where moses found god out in the wilderness... In a burning BUSH. There would have been dead plant matyerial around, certainly enough to make a fire. Actually think about it. those deserts get quite cold at night, what do you think those israelites where burning to make fires? Camel dung and plant material, both would have been good for making furnaces.
Camels in Israel's Negev Desert. Ooooooo look Trees!!!
Arava desert next to Jordan. Oooooo Look TREES !!!

Ok just a thought here, it might not be entirely accurate.
Burning and crushing the calf - Maybe this calf was only gold plated, the base of it would have been wood or clay and both materials can be burnt and crushed, spread on water and drunk.
The ark of the covernant was gold plated so who's to say this wasn't. Also we're talking about run away slaves here. Slaves aren't exactly well known for having loads of jewelry so I'm figuring that there wasn't enough gold to make a whole idol, just enough to plate it.
As to how they would get a heat source hot enough to heat up gold to melt it, thats not a real problem. Building a primitave furnace isn't hard, all you need is a suppy of wood and enclosed space and bellows to supply oxygen. You lay your wood down (plenty of dried dead wood in the desert) place a crucible containing your jewelry onto of the wood and then cover everything with rocks leaving a hole to allow you to ignite the wood and blow hot air into the makeshift furnace. You then cover the rocks in soil or sand to keep the heat in and bellow away.

I'm worried about dating "worldly" women at 36 this is hard!!!
by Witness 007 ini can't believe i have to date again when i seperate from my wife!
i hope i remember how.....i only ever dated my wife.
what are the rules?

First off, you've just split with your wife and you're hurting. Chuck yourself at the singles market out there and you're gonna take a battering mate. Can you take all that hurt all at once?
I'd cool off for a while, regroup, re-discover yourself and be happy in your own skin and then start dating.
No woman in her right mind is going to want to touch you with a bargepole as you are now, you're on the rebound, you know that and they know that and they are not going to want to date you knowing that you'll soon be moving on again.
Once you are ready to start dating again though remember one thing. If you have been brought up in the truth you have 34 years of experience in talking absolute bollocks to strangers. You can knock on a strangers door, talk about anything, engage them in conversation, manipulate them, charm them, win them around to your way of thinking. If you can do that to place a magazine then you can do that in a bar or club, only the idea now isn't to place a mag. Thats the one good thing that i took away from the truth, that ability to be able to talk to anyone and that lack of fear of rejection.
Oh and from personal experience, aussie girls are easy

Posters I'll miss the most...
by Jringe01 inthey say that with any trip the destination's not important but rather the journey itself.
during my journey out of the wts and thru my time on this site here are some of the people who have caught my attention in one way or another even though i never really interacted with them.
i posted this list on simon's thread announcing that jwd was winding down but then i thought about it and decided to start a topic because i want to make sure these people see that i'm thinking of them and that they meant something to me even though we never met.
