  Did Prayer work for you, or not?

  jws, and christians in genreral, are taught that god answers prayers of sincere believers.

  on the other hand, there is a popular bumpersticker which reads "nothing fails like prayer".. what has been your experience in this regard?

  did god answer your most heartfelt prayers, or were they ignored?.

  ""God helps those who help themselves" {famous christian saying}" - however, nothing Christian whatsoever about this saying. In fact it is not even in the Bible. What IS in the Bible - Galatians 3:3 - "Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?"

  As a JW, I don't remember prayer being an integral part of worship or life. In fact, we were taught that God does not listen to most prayers - long list of what He listens to, who He does not listen to.... As a Christian, prayer has become integral and God answers those prayers. In fact, another thing JWs missed was that God speaks to us. Yes, He talks back!!!! We just have to listen. When, as a JW, did you spend time LISTENING to God?

  Or do you remember that you should not pray out loud because the Devil would hear you, but God can read your mind?

  Learn of spousal abuse, sit on the family's couch, ask the husband if he beat his wife, hear a no, nod sagely, and leave.... and not wonder what happened to her after he left.....

  My friend wants to know how to stop the JW's from knocking at her door

  she has ms and its difficult for her to stand at the door.

  Well, I survived. Some people were decent, some queried "Are you reinstated?" - saw my cross and walked off and some just ignored me (best friend included). Funny thing is that her husband, the ex-Bethelite didn't. My mom wouldn't sit with us - you know it wouldn't be OK to be seen with a df'd person, even if you live with them. sigh....

  They actually spent a few minutes talking about the sister, which was nice.

  And then we went into the typical outline. Something I noticed for the first time was that they keep you so distracted with Scripture-hopping that there isn't time to examine the text and see if it really says what they are saying, or if it is in context or anything. Dunno why I never noticed that before. It's like they don't want you to THINK about the verse they read, they just want you to blanket accept what they said.

  She has a JW daughter and family. But this is how she is remembered for her "faithful service." 35 words, including address and time of memorial. No signatures in the guest book. Feel the love JWs have for each other.... Going to torture myself with attending the memorial today in respect to her (she always meant well, didn't know she was misguided by the F&DS). I remember my stepmom's memorial (Lutheran) being uplifting and bringing back many warm memories of her. I am sure this one will be quite different.

  First time dragging the DH to a JW kingdom hall as well. I'm sure he'll get a great picture of this outfit. I'm just sure he will immediately feel the Christian love. (tongue-in-cheek).

  The (missing) brackets in the NWT

  it was a great day, that convention day they announced that the new world translation now was to be released in the norwegian language.

  first the greek scriptures in 1991, and in 1996 the whole bible.

  finally we too were able to read the best translation ever made!

  They removed the brackets from the paperback editions of the English NWT - Col. 1:15, 16. You can find them in the old hardback editions. No mentions made of the wonderful changes (tongue in cheek) - just a quiet removal of brackets and pretend that the word was always there.

  Sure. I wrote to inquire if they had any records about my df'ing - did not provide congregation, location, anything (a return address only - not one that I was ever a JW at). They wrote back to say that they did not have records but I could inquire of xxx congregation (my old congregation) for further details. Yup, they have records....

  Can I forbid my ex to see my son???

  before i start, i know a lot of you will say for me to consult an attorney, but just wanted to see if any of you have had to deal with this..... i have primary custody of my son.

  my ex was ordered to pay child support the first of each month.

  well i hardly ever see a dime of it unless i call him and have to bitch him out to send the state a payment for child support.

  Legally... no. Child support and visitation cannot be tied. In our state, however, they take a dim view of unpaid child support. Bank accounts are frozen, wages garnished and tax refunds seized.

  Sounds like our ex's read the same book. I just figure that if I see ANY money I am lucky.

  North Carolina does garnish wages - doesn't help if he doesn't work - http://www.child-support-collections.com/support-laws/north-carolina-child-support-law.html - It is getting down to where they cannot renew driver's licenses or obtain passports until support is paid in full. I think that is excellent.

  you know, i knew a lot of bethelites and every one of them loved their booze.

  as an elder, i would entertain alot of the cos, dos and bethelites and their wives.

  it was not unusual for the wives to get loaded while they were at my house!
