ATTENTION: 587/607 Buffs..
by deaconbluez inhow would you answer this:.
"it's simple: we know there was a 70-year exile, and that that the jews returned in 537bce.
so 537bce minus 70 years equals 607bce!

my research into antient hebrews mingling thier blood during covenant......
by grewupJWnoselfesteem78-95 inin this book, the miriclle of the scarlet thread, richard booker outlines the steps ancient hebrews typically followed in making a covenant: ......they exchanged robes.......they exchanged belts.....cut the convenant.......raised the right hand..........mingled their blood.......exchanged names.....made a scar.....stated the convenant terms.........ate the memorial meal......and planted a tree.
the covenant partners raised their right arms, cut their palms and intermingled their blood, while swearing allegiance to each other.
blood represents life; the intermingling represent two lives becoming one.

I had never heard of this until your post. This would blow some JW minds for sure. I googled "ancient hebrew blood covenants" and turned up a lot of good info on this. Thanks for sharing your research.

41 Theses on Blood: My "best of" questions/arguments on JW Blood Ban
by Check_Your_Premises inon the earth you should pour it out as water.. from these verses it is clear that there is an old testament prohibition against eating blood.
if not, why do you think it is sacred?
so whenever a person took the life of an animal, they were to drain the blood and not drink it because the blood represents the life and not theirs to take without god's permission.

The "generation" cover-up continues
by proplog2 inwell, the new "generation" light has finally been released in print.
this is important because it the centerpiece of their whole orientation.. it is still a disjointed coverup of why they have this doctrine in the first place.
christ didn't come in 1874 or 1914. .

Song Lyrics That Remind You Of The Watchtower
by Arthur ini was listening to a song today by rush.
i had heard the song a few times before, but today i really listened closely to the lyrics.
i read the lyrics off of the cd jacket and the words remind me so much of how i felt in the watchtower organization - never being allowed to ask serious questions or raise any kinds of objections to organizational practices.

This song is from a concept album about joining and then in time waking up and escaping from a religious cult.... Quite fitting. :-)
A Touch Of Blessing by Evergrey
Climbing walls of an endless circle
Walking paths you never heard of
Struggling in an endless battle
Searching for a higher purposeDrowning in betrayal's river
The freezing cold will make you shiver
Join the world of greater learning
Crown me king and be my servantMislead by beauty
One you rarely find
So loving and friendly
It's one of a kindTheir arms wide open
Willing to take me in
No doubts in choosing
A world free from sinAll the dreams I had
All my future wishes
Put aside for a greater journey
All the things I planned
Left my friends so coldly
Put aside for a
Higher...Mislead by beauty
One you rarely find
So loving and friendly
It's one of a kindOne single army
Unite as one
A touch of blessing
Which cannot be undoneDrowning in betrayal's river
The freezing cold will make you shiver
Join the world of greater learning
Crown me king and be my servantsAll the dreams I had
All my future wishes
Put aside for a greater journey
All the things I planned
Left my friends so coldly
Put aside for a higher purpose(Face melting solo)

Mormon Celestial Sex... A Quantitative Analysis
by FormerMormon ini posted this on some mormon recovering bb's.
i'll modify it to make it a little more understandable to jw's.
this is an example of how the unerring truths of mormon doctrine meet the unerring mathematics.

Ha! You Mormons have it all wrong. Don't ya know God lives on Alcyone, in the Pleiades cluster! The WTS taught that, so it must be in the Bible, riiight?
". . Alcyone, the central one of the renowned Pleiadic stars . . . . as far as science has been able to perceive, would seem to be 'the midnight throne' in which the whole system of gravitation has its central seat, and from which the Almighty governs his universe" (Thy Kingdom Come, p. 327)
Seriously though, thank you for putting this together. And congratulations on your awakening, FormerMormon. I am really happy for you. I do not know much about LDS beliefs, but I remember having some long discussions with Mormons in service & being amazed at the similarity of some of our terminology & organizational structure. Entirely different backgrounds, but they somehow both evolved into the same brand of high-control craziness.

Sexual Morality In The Old Testament Differs From That In The New Testament
by AlanF inconservative christians like the jehovah's witnesses often claim that, like the new testament, the old testament forbids all sexual relations outside marriage, including relations between unmarried people.
that is not quite true.
to see that patriarchal and israelite culture adhered to a different standard, we must first understand just how the old testament treats marriage, sexuality and related items.. the old testament view of women as property.

Very interesting post, AlanF! Thanks for all the time you put into this. I logged in from my usual lurking just to comment on this thread. I have often wondered about this very topic. Talk about food at the proper time. :-P Great work!

Is WTS chronology flawed?
by cultswatter inhistorians agree that jerusalem was invaded by babylon in 586/587bce.
the wts discredits most historical records and says that jerusalem was invaded in 607bce.
the wts start with 587 and add the 70 years that jerusalem lay desolate to obtain the 607 date.. if jerusalem was invaded in 587 then it lay desolate for only 50 years (587-537=50).
