SOJ would not like you to call him/her brother... To him you are not his brother. Really, he can take you to court because you are not a jw brother, etc..... They preach a different gospel and I hope that you can help him to see that. Godspeed, brother. Love, dj
i know some have posted similar topics like this, but i thought it might be kind of fun (for the new ones that are coming here in droves) and others, to give some examples of catch phrases etc, that are unique to the jw world.
here's a few to start:.... "muster up boldness", "sound down into our hearts","satan's crafty acts", "paradisaic", "young ones"," discernment".....these are just a few of the more irritating.

"Satan is the god of this world"........as if GOD has no control over the earth anymore
"We surely are in the last days".............we've been for 2,000 years atleast that's what the apostle John taught.
"They are not servants of Jehovah".........I thought we were slaves of Christ

"In Jesus' name we pray, amen"..................that is all He is to them, a name at the end of a prayer

i have a friend who is a jehovah witness.
once we started talking about prayer, and i told him that we referred to god as 'lord', or 'god', or 'father', for reverence or respect, although we did not have prohibited to say jehovah.
he said that i was wrong, that it was necessary to state that the prayer was for jehovah and not any other god.
Hallowed by thy name = sacred.
i have to tell you that if you are currently shunned, although it may be painful....you are actually better off imo.
having had it both ways now, i am convinced that it was less painful than being halfway accepted (as i am now because my dad is sick).
my conscience is clear and it feels so good but at the same time i am in more pain than when i was shunned.

Isn't the resurrection of the righteous and unrighteous what she is referring too? Isn't that after the big A. So, if you die before the big A....then I would be resurrected, according to her?? Is that right? She must either think I will die really soon or not believe that the end is near. Anyone have these teachings current??

In answer to your question....NO, they are not allowed to have "wordly friends" You are considered a "bad association who spoils useful habits." If you told her rthat you are Christian well......the you are a follower of Satan and his lie of Christiandom. Next time, mums the word. Act like you don't know anything about them but gently inform them of what you believe and don't give them the opportunity to teach you. The holy spirit teaches you. They are masters of deceit. False teachers that Christ warned us about. They teach a different gospel and Paul said that "if anyone comes to you and teaches a differnet gospel, let him be accursed" Then he repeated it! So mean. If it helps at all I had a baby and my parents didn't care. I had a husband who had an accident and needed 23 red cell (forbidden fraction) in critical condition for a month, while I was pregnant with my second baby and we were in them middle of moving because our house was sold.........and no one cared, except to remind me that my husband and I needed to repent for allowing the blood. Which btw, was not our decision but was done in the OR because he was basically bleeding to death externally and internally. We moved the day he came home from the hospital in a wheelchair and very weak....no help. I needed a circlage (sp) so that I wouldn't lose the baby and I had to take a taxi to the hospital because my husband couldn't drive yet and everyone else was too busy....Our new house wasn't built yet so we lived in a hotel for a month with me still pregnant and our 5 yr. old, while my husband still needed physical therapy 3x a week and endless doctor's appt.'s.... When I offered clothing that my 5 yr. old outgrew to my siblings for their kids, I was told that it was demonic.... ((((((((Bebu)))))))) How sweet of you. It is not burdensome to live the way Christ taught us and it is always right and in the end I always see that. His love is precious to me. When I realized that doing things His way was actually beneficial to me, even though at the time sometimes I don't see it.....In the end it is always clear that I would have been miserable if I didn't heed His voice. Cool, eh? It is a tough road at times for sure. It can be very painful but then I remember that He endured pain even until death for me. That realization always helps me get my perspective back. I just wish that I knew how to ALWAYS walk in the spirit because I hate when I am in the flesh.
My papa is a jw but he has had my heart since I was a kid. He's tough but he has a very loving side too. My life will have a void when he is gone. He's one of those people that lights up the room when he enters or atleast he lights up my heart. I wish that he was a reader but he never liked to read.He is more of the mechanical type. I think that if read more , then he would never have become a jw.....because he is a person who always made sure of things and I got his berean nature from him. If he had taken the time to read the bible instead of just believing the jw's and only reading the verses that they point out......he would have told them to take a leap. I have to trust that God in his infinite wisdom will be merciful to my dad. I just don't know and I think that makes his death even more difficult for me. BTW, he was the only one who didn't completly shun my husband and I when we gave up on the watchtower. He had to hide his visits and keep them brief but atleast he visited us once in a while. After he got sick and I was allowed back into the family, he wrote me a letter saying that he was thankful that we were back together because he missed us even if it was a tragic way. I treasured that letter, except for the part where he tried to convert me....lol.. Thanks bebu for being so kind to me. love, dj

I have never been baptized as a jw. I was raised as one and left the teachings in my 30's and was baptized as a christian. I openly reject the wt teachings and my family knows it. Why then does my mother say to me that she will be looking for me in the resurrection? She sounds serious. Is she thinking on her own or are they taught this now?
