  Help and suggestions

  i just got off of the phone with my wife, and she's been researching my beliefs (catholic) and wants to discuss what she's found.

  several subjects like marion worship, sacrifice of the mass etc.

  i told her sure i'll discuss them with you, but i get equal time to discuss problems with your religion.. to make a short story long she agreed but she wants me to discuss important things things i fear may put her in jeapordy spiritually.

  May I ask why your wife was inactive for 12 years? Was she in disagreement with a particular issue or simply fed up with all of the hypocrisy? Why did she return? Was she shunned?

  Unfortunately, I don't believe that a one subject debate is going to lead anywhere. For most of us, I'm afraid it was a culmination of a variety of issues. Even then, it is hard to make the break. In my experience 'debating' with a witness ends up with hollering and deep rooted anger.

  I feel for you JG. I guess that I really should butt out now because I do not believe the Catholics either. For me it is more of a relationship with Christ that matters. All of these other rules are merely man-made. I'm sure that you must be aware that as a Catholic, you are the jw's staunchest rival.

  I do think that your approach about trying to disprove the GB's claim of speaking for God is your best place to begin. After all, all of their beliefs hinge on that one false factor. My thoughts are with you. dj

  the watchtower once believed that if a woman did not scream while being raped, then she was guilty of fornication.

  she was 'in on' her own rape, thus she too is just as guilty as her rapist.

  i don't think there is a person in this forum today, who does not find this reasoning repugnant and archaic.

  Hello Scooter and ((((((((((welcome)))))))))))= hugs.

  My siblings are jw's married to non-jw's. Just like you, my poor in-laws were not aware that my siblings had such a strong tie to the Wt until AFTER they we married. Honestly, love is so blind and I don't know if they would have listened even if they did realize it.

  Sadly, they are ALL miserable and their children get torn between them. My in-laws who are Christians have a much better way of dealing with the conflict but they are always struggling to keep the fake harmony. I am so happy to be married to a non dub. I wish the best for you and welcome to the board!!! love,dj

  i've been reading posts for a while now, and sometimes it seems that some posters really know each other quite well.

  i was thinking perhaps that they knew each other prior to coming on the forum.. how many here went to the same congregation and were friends or family?.

  or how many here did not attend the same congregation at the same time, only to connect again on this forum?.

  Sooo cool! I was just a tiny munchkin when we lived there..I was 2 yrs. old. It is nice to know that your still fairly close to me though. I'm about 30 min.'s South west of Philly. luv, dj

  p.s. don't know your age but i lived there in 1961-63. Maybe we stared at each other from our grocercy car seats with cookies smushed on our faces. lol

  I may be wrong but I think that the speaker causing this discrepancy is only going to teach that Christ is the only way. If that is exclusivity then Jesus is an exclusive being. I think that was Jesus's message. Either your'e with Christ or your not....and that is what Christianity is......even though it may be politically incorrect. HE taught us that no matter how many good deeds we may perform it is useless with out his loving spirit.

  If Valis's point is valid and this guy has some private agenda unfamiliar to Christianity, so be it. His hiney is covered under the 1st ammendment as well. However, I don't think that is the case because Joan Cetnar is no fool. If for some outlandish reason, this guy proves to be a nut case then he won't be listened to by the majority of the folks in attendance. They would walk out on him. The entire convention does not hinge on one person. I am convinced that Joan knows her stuff and wouldn't allow a nut case to speak. dj

  Hi Professor,

  I 'm not really sure that the average jw is aware of the amount of false prophecies!!! They may be aware of one or two and dismiss them. They live in a DENIAL about most things. The wt has them so fearful and twisted that even the thought that they are false scares them because after all, Christendom is soooo evil. Classic manuevers for a cult. So very sad for them. They feel that they have nowhere else to turn so, they remain in their DENIAL. dj
