Whatever the reasons they originally accept the position, many step down because the stress is too great. I've been in several congregations where the "used to be elders" outnumbered the actual ones.

Why is it so many Men agree to take on the Position of an Elder?
by restrangled ini just wonder because with the stresses of earning a living, taking care of immediate family, and getting in little free time that is available, why would anyone want to take on this extra job at no charge, answer to more bosses, and be submited to endless critisizing behind your back for decisions.
it just seems crazy.. r..

Have you abandoned the hope of everlasting life?
by Fisherman indo you still believe or nurture in your heart "living forever in a paradise earth" and even never having to die in "this old system"?
or do you now belive in life after death as a spirit being in heaven?
or have you abandoned the hope of everlasting life?

I too am adopting the wait and see attitude. I intend to live a clean and honest life till I die, after that who knows?

Where else would I go?
Seriously, I can't talk to my witness friends for fear of being disfellowshiped, I can't confide in worldy people because they would not understand and other sites are either too religious or militant.
And: "misery loves company".

A surprise result on my Dna geneaology test.
by moshe ini asked earlier this year if anyone had joined the national geographic's genographic dna ancestry research project.
i decided to do it a couple months ago and also signed up with the testing lab to see , if i matched with any unknown cousins.
it took about 2 months for the cheek swab to be processed and i have my results.

Welcome Lynn. Your experience is very moving. You have been through more than most of us. Take each day as a gift and revel in being able to start over again. So many that are still "in" are living tortured lives trying in vain to do all the things the Society "sugests" and never being able to get it all just right. You are free now, enjoy the rest of your life!

Do they make it up as they go along?
by link ini havent been around here for a couple of years but i wondered if anyone would be interested in commenting on the information given at the web site: http://www.lawphil.net/judjuris/juri2003/aug2003/am_p-02-1651_2003.html.. it is extremely long but i found it interesting.
it concerns jehovahs witnesses living as man and wife without being married.
in the philippines there is no divorce so a witness cannot remarry unless they get an annulment which is extremely expensive and beyond the reach of most fillipinos.

Uninformed is right. I believe this policy came to be when Italy (under the pressure of the Catholic Church) refused to grant anyone a divorce. Witnesess who are "married" in this sense are bound together in the same way any other couple in the org. would be.

How old will you be....
by Scully inwhen you will have been an exjw for as long as you were a jw?.
i was raised in the jws from before the age of 10, and stopped going to the kh at the age of 31. i was involved with the jws for a total of 23 years.
i will be 54 years old by the time i have spent more of my life as an exjw than i did as a jw..

by 5go ini find myself just going off way to easy recently, and i find that i'm going into my shell a lot.

Depends on how far "off" you are going. The fact that you realize something is up is a good thing. Please find someone trustworty to confide your feelings in and maybe seek some professional help as well.
