You can tell an assemblies getting near when...
by dobbie inpeople and family who you haven't heard from in ages suddenly start phoning or popping round!the jws just had their district assembly and i said to hubby at the beginning of the month id bet him a fiver his mother would be in touch because the assembly was coming and they'd be told to get inactive ones there to swell the figures.
(hardly has anything to do with us usually).sure enough he had a loveydovey text from her saying she was still at the meetings and missed him, then two elders contact us(though it looks like after what i said they are trying to d'a me, and then my ex best friend calls round this weekend while i was out and then two sisters came round today but i got hubby to answer the door.think he owes me quite a few fivers now don't you!isn't it a bit false though to only bother when they are told to do so?had better find out when the next assembly is due so i can barricade the door and turn the answering machine on!maybe i am just getting too cynical and they are trying to help but just seems funny i was right about the timimg doesn't it?

Celebrating holidays
by dobbie injust wondering if you still abstain from celebrating christmas birthdays etc or if you do celebrate them how long did it take to feel comfy with doing it after you'd left the jws?i'm fading at the moment but although me and hubby have talked about spending xmas with our nonjw families and i told him i was going to start sending bday cards to my family, the thought of it scares me like its a big huge sin.does it ever feel natural to celebrate holidays?i used to love all that sort of thing before i was a witness but when my mum and stepdad wished me happy bday last month it felt really odd and i was uneasy.i find it v confusing cos i can sort of see that jesus wasn't born in dec. but maybe he can have 2 bdays like the queen!also not being able to send fathers day cards this year was the final straw for me i felt so bad about it so i have lots of making up to do but just hope i can enjoy it all without feeling bad.
i know they say some bday things have pagan origins but there are things jws can have or do that also are pagan.wedding rings for example.thanks

Serves me right
by dobbie inlast week i had to go to my allotment in the evening to pick some stuff for my dad.i went past the house i used to attend for thursday night book study, it was thursday night and when i saw all the cars parked outside for it, i just had a huge grin on my face cos i felt so free and happy not to be there, it was the meeting i dreaded most, i used to hate it!no one used to talk to us - even my mother in law would'nt say hello not even to her grandchildren!
(the only times she spoke were on two occasions which really surprised me until i realised it was because she wanted her youngest son to sleep at ours both times, so they could go away), anyway i got to the allotment which was awful cos my little ones did not want to be there, my eldest shut the door on my 18mth old so i went and left a big bucket of produce lying in the middle of the car park.
on the way back theres a lane with a part where only one car can get through so after checking no one was conimg the other way i stated to drive up it, nearly at the bit where its wider and a boy racer appears out of nowhere making me stop.bearing in mind he only had to reverse back one car length i waited for him to go back.the git and his girlfriend just stayed there laughing at me, i had the little ones and didn't want trouble so i started to reverse(which i just can't do!

Children and school assembly
by dobbie inmy little child in the uk starts school soon.
i wasn't brought up a jw and am inactive but there are lots of other jw children going and apparently are'nt allowed to go to school assemblies.
i can't remember anything wrong with school assemblies and i think it's daft to keep my child in a separate room while its going on.

JEHOVAH'S NAME IN NEW TESTAMENT
by dobbie inhi i've noticed in one of the posts that the jw bible put gods name into the new testament, and that it shouldn't be there.
i admit that i'm not the brightest pebble on the beach, but when i was studying they told me that the name jehovah was restored to where it was originally and that the nwt was the most accurately translated bible around.
just wondering how they have got away with doing that if they have blatantly inserted it where it bible scholars would immediately see it shouldn't be?also is there any such thing as the most accurate bible translation cos i'd like to try reading it my myself(without the aid of watchtower publications), but don't know now if i can trust nwt or not.

jws celebrate birthdays?!
by dobbie ini was speaking to a friend last night, trying to explain why i don't go to meetings etc,(waste of time though she just can't seem to understand my point whatever i say), anyway she said as long as i don't d'a myself she can still speak to me.
she said they only d'f you if you commit a gross sin.
i refuted this saying if they knew i didn't agree with some of the teachings, sent a fathers day card etc and you weren't sorry they'd get rid of you.

Why baptise young ones?
by dobbie injust had two months worth of mags shoved through my door(thank goodness i wasn't in but out with kids having fun!
)had a flick through them but what caught my attention was the july 1st watchtower 2nd study article "youths, make it your choice to serve jehovah".
it seems to be basically encouraging all the young ones to get baptised, and mentions one boy who was only thirteen!i was'nt born into the jws but i know that in my early teen years i would personally never have been emotionally ready for such a major commitment.

Are you happier out of the org?
by dobbie inhi everyone i was just wondering if those of you that have left the org for whatever reason, have found your'e much happier than when you were in it?probably a daft question but i tried to talk to a friend about how i was feeling about a few things and why i don't go to meetings and she said would i really be any happier out than in?it just got me thinking about why i joined in the first place, because i was lonely and down, although i still am several years later it seems!have you found life better on the outside?did you feel a sense of freedom or was it really hard to adjust?when i try to explain what i find hard in the religion they can always say something back that then makes me think i was wrong in the first place and it is the truth after all - aagh!
