living forever

i remember when i was a kid i used to assuage my fear of dying with the comfort and knoweledge that i was one of the "millions now living that may never die.

" but even as a kid, i used to think to myself that after a thousand or so years of living with these boring people that i see at the kingdom hall, that sooner or later i would become bored as hell.

after all, everything really fun seemed to be a sin and after a thousand years of bowling with my fellow witnesses and groveling on my knees thanking jehovah for every breath that i took, wouldn't i get bored at some point?

It would take more than a thousand years for me to get bored!
However, I don't think we have any idea what it would be like living forever.

Imagine a mountain of hard granite 10 miles high, every 1000 years a butterfly comes and brushes the top just once. This begins to erode the mountain and after unimaginable eons the mountain is worn down. Now, imagine you have been forced to monitor this event, not once but a million times. You haven't even scratched the surface of what it would be like to live forever.

You could rearrange every molecule in the galaxy in all possible combinations again and again and again and still not have started to live forever. Still think you wouldn't get bored?

Schools call in Ed Psych's for JW children!

i was chatting with my 14 year old son today and he happened to mention that his teacher had recommended he talk with a counsellor.

this was news to me, sounds like an educational psychologist and i was quite disturbed that they had instigated this without contacting us as parents.. however, my son tells me that the counsellor said to him that she has a number of jw children on her books (but didnt give any details issues of confidentiality i guess), and that she was used to handling the sort of problems that jw children have!

apparently my son told her how trapped he felt by the religion, with no possibility of escape until he was older, she said that she was hearing this from other jw children too.. does this mean that my local education authority has identified jw children as possibly needing psychological support?

Hmmm, never thought about it like that RunningMan, I guess you're right - they are the happiest people on earth because they aren't allowed to complain. LOL

I do intend to follow this up, but carefully; I don't want to spoil the trust I have with my son. He can always speak his mind with me and know he'll get a reasoned and reasonable response. He shares things with me he would never share with his Mum, JW relatives or JW 'friends'.

it says in my niv study bible it toke place c.609 bc so therefore the fall of jerusalem toke place approxiametly(sic)20 years later according to the bible.. if you say carchemish toke place in 627,`can you provide evidence of this?

20 years later on from 609BC would be 589BC. 20 years on from 607BC would be 587BC - the generally accepted time for the fall of Jerusalem.

i've been depressed big time over all the fights, attacks, flame wars, bickering, complaining and what have you that seems to dominate the board these days.. i've just decided that there is no point in my bringing down myself any further and that i don't have anything of value to offer here, especially since it takes as much emotional effort to insulate myself from my friends behaving badly, that i just can't seem to offer much in the way of positive vibes.. i will check back some time (maybe a month or so0 down the road to see if this place has gotten any more mellow and friendly but until then.... hasta la vista and the best of luck to you.

What's the real reason for the Flame wars????

I'm with you rhett, people take the things said on this board way too seriously.

If I don't like a poster I don't click on his/her thread, or skip past it. Simple.

The real reason for the flame wars? Maybe I'm being paranoid here but has anyone thought of the possibility that it may be the Society's way of destroying a boards credibility which then makes people move on? Think what happened to H2O, which used to be the main threat on the net to the WBTS. It consumed itself in the fire of flame wars and is now just a charred remnent of its former glory. This board will go the same way unless we agree to act like adults and not squabbling children.

So chill out people...let's not give the WBTS the satisfaction of seeing another place of refuge go down the tubes.

Movie that could describe your experience as a jw?

personnally, i thing that the movie "the matrix" and the movie "the truman show" really describe my experience in the wbts.

when i discovered the truth about the "truth", my perception of the reality became really different.

all that i have been taught was just a big lie.

East is East.

A British film about a Muslim man married to an English woman. There is a lot of tension because of their different beliefs with regard to bringing up their children. One of the sons is 'shunned' because he is homosexual and wouldn't go through with an arranged marriage. The way that the rest of the children keep doing things behind the father's back (like eating bacon!)is moving and funny at the same time. In reality, the family love and respect each other, it is just the father's religious fanatism that nearly destroys them.
