  what was the first computer you ever owned?

  for me it was the trs-80 model 1. i bought it for $10 at a second hand store when i was 10 years old.

  took me forever to find info on the thing, an manual, and a patchcord to hook up a cassette deck.

  Does the Binatone tennis console count?

  If not then it's the ZX 81 (16K?) then a Spectrum.

  The first REAL computer I had was a 386 DX40, then a 486SX25 upgraded to DX80, then a P166, P200, P2 333 celeron, P3 500.

  In those days I was always upgrading something - chips, graphics, motherboards, RAM etc.

  My current machine is a P3 800 with 64MB GEforce2 graphics - had it for about three years. I know it's really outdated now but I just can't afford to upgrade. Seems to run everything I want though, even most modern games (on reduced detail).

  The need to upgrade seems to have slowed a bit.

  i've made other little comments to this lady before, but this time she stopped, looked at me and said: "what religion did you belong to?

  " i told her the jws.

  why not look at what the WTS says about a marriage between a JW and a non-JW and how it affects their closeness and how the JW spouse puts the WTS ahead of the non-JW spouse.

  How the wife views the husband as an adversary rather than a partner.

  How the wife will interfere with the medical treatment of any children, in the area of blood.

  How the wife will be encouraged to convert the husband. How the wife will teach the children in spite of his directions not to. How the children will try to convert the husband. If the husband doesn't respond, then he will be viewed as an opposer and ignored and the wife will be sympathized with.

  How the wife will be closer to the people at the KH than her spouse.

  That's very true blondie, that's what it's like in reality BUT...has the WBTS ever WRITTEN anything that can be used to show this?

  If anyone knows where I can find this information in a condensed form (I haven't got the time or patience to trawl through thousands of WT articles on marriage) I would be very grateful.

  It would be a very useful resource for non-JWs going through a split or divorce as a result of the JW religion.

  I'm stuck on page 240 for days.

  i've been on page 240 for several days and can't get it to update to the latest post.

  i've seen post with suggestions to refresh the post but can't remember all the sugestions.

  anyone having the same problem?

  I take it you mean page 2040? Yep, I've been stuck on that page too.

  This is an ongoing problem which I've had most of this year, all the usual suggestions of browser and cache clearing just don't work.

  It used to update every two days whatever I did.

  The only way around it, for example in 'friends' is to manually change the

  http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/default.ashx

  into

  http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/2401.ashx

  click 'go' and so on to scroll through the next pages...but strangely even that doesn't work anymore. It's as if the pages don't exist!

  The Haunting - especially the bit where she unknowingly holds the ghost's hand *shiver!*

  Jaws - the head out of the boat bit! (the ONLY scene from a film that has ever gotten me out of my seat!)

  Final Destination was one of the few films that played on my mind for days afterwards.

  Saw The Ring last week and was bored to death with it. Not really into horror/ghost films, they don't rock my boat usually, though I did like Sixth Sense.

  as i was accessing my files on strike9 i noticed what i thought was a watchtower cover in the random files window.. i checked it out and found it was a user called 'gita' the files have public access so i don't think i'm breaking any laws by posting this.. i thought it was pretty funny and worth sharing (if you're watching, gita, forgive me!).

  i seem to remember another site that does this sort of spoof cover.

  can anyone tell me the address please?

  I know this isn't a spoof Watchtower cover, but I just read this on a humour site, I wonder if it's a true story?

  In Edmonton, Alberta, in July, Bill Sokolik pleaded guilty to a
  2002 robbery that went down this way: He had wrapped his head in
  gauze, covered his face with silicon putty and rouge (and
  oversized glasses), grabbed a Samurai sword, walked into a
  Jehovah's Witnesses hall, and screamed, "I am the evil that you
  have read about! This is the face of evil!" He was in the middle
  of collecting cash and credit cards from everyone when the police
  arrived. (A psychiatrist had testified that Sokolik had run out of
  medication several days before.) [Edmonton Journal, 8-1-03]

  I agree only to an extent.

  There is a portion of congregations that can be described as a revolving door- the younger generation.

  But there is a significant proportion that will always be there - those that have been around since the year dot. In my congregation there are many old faces who will never leave until they are carried out in a coffin.

  Many of those are very old and sickly now. I think that we may well see decreases in numbers soon as these older ones start to die off in increasing quantities. A different kind of door, and one that doesn't revolve!

  report: 11 die after grasshoppers swarm in sudan

  khartoum (reuters) - eleven people died and thousands were taken to hospital with breathing difficulties after a swarm of grasshoppers invaded a town in central sudan, the government-owned al-anbaa newspaper reported on saturday.
