  JW expansion cancelled in Britain - official

  forgive me if this has been covered before but i only drop in occasionally.. i seem to remember some months ago that a poster talked about the planned relocation of the british branch to milton keenes.

  i think he said that the move had been scrapped because of the lack of growth in britain?

  i also believe that this decision had been made before the sept 11th attacks.

  Forgive me if this has been covered before but I only drop in occasionally.

  I seem to remember some months ago that a poster talked about the planned relocation of the British Branch to Milton Keenes. I think he said that the move had been scrapped because of the lack of growth in Britain? I also believe that this decision had been made before the Sept 11th attacks. The society, on the other hand, are blaming the cancellation on events in the world, implying that it is directly linked to the attacks. Even if that is not the case, this is an interesting snippet in the latest Kingdom Ministry. I can imagine all the brothers across Britain excitedly discussing it because ‘it shows how close we are to Armageddon if the GB are calling a halt to expansion’

  Anyway, here is the entire article quoted verbatim from the January KM for Britain:

  You may well recall that during the concluding talk at the 2001 “Teachers of God’s Word” District Convention the speaker mentioned the possibility of the Britain branch relocating in order to care for our expanding requirements. He indicated that further information would be conveyed to the brothers as soon as this was available.
  Of course, as you will appreciate, the ‘scene of the world’ has changed dramatically since then. (1 Cor. 7:31) The Governing Body has thoroughly considered the matter and weighed various factors that would have a bearing on their decision. They say “while we can appreciate that much work has gone into the plans for a possible new complex to meet the needs of the work, the Governing Body has determined that with the current changing world situation it would be best not to go ahead with building plans for Britain at this time.”
  May we take this occasion to express our sincere appreciation to all those who have volunteered their time and skills to aid us in the initial work of searching for suitable sites, drawing up outline plans, and presenting these to various officials. It has been a wonderful experience in pooling such a fine array of talented brothers and sisters and the lessons learned will prove invaluable for the future.
  We now leave the matter in the hands of the Almighty and his reigning king, Christ Jesus, and we feel sure you will do the same.

  what is special about this meeting that can't be handled thorough normal channels?.

  It author sets out many common questions that 'JW-haters'(his description) ask JWs and attempts to answer them. The answers are simplistic, full of twisted logic, and often point to other religion's mistakes to cover their own (see esp the defense of 1975). But hey, at least he's had a go.

  Let us not be accused of not letting them put over their point of view; in fact let us encourage it - the more they try and defend themselves the clearer it becomes to an impartial observer what a misguided cult they are.

  hello all--new to board; my story

  hello everyone...hope all are having a great holiday season.. ***warning--kind of long***.

  i am 31 and have been "out" for an undetermined # of years...probably starting as soon as i moved out of the house at age 23. i just "drifted away".. i was born into the jw faith.

  my parents remain devout and "zealous" to this day.

  Welcome newbies.

  The reason the Society fear education is the fact that it gives you power. The power to think for yourself and drag yourself out of the grinding poverty, which leaves you dependent, both materially and emotionally, on the congregation.

  It is no coincidence that the society’s main gain nowadays is in countries with poor educational infrastructures.

  Education, and the freedom of thought that it brings, is the antithesis of everything that the GB stands for. They want you to be in ignorance. Ignorance is their friend, it keeps them in power.
  The only thing they want you to study is the crap that deepens your ignorance.

  But do not despair. I am forty years of age and am just finishing a four year degree at University.
  Like many on this board who have educated themselves once the shackles are off, you too should realise it is never to late to learn.

  Whatever your age, GET YOURSELF EDUCATED in some form of further education.

  You will NEVER regret it.

  Sometimes I go to a meeting.

  sometimes i go to a meeting...usually when the co visits in case they actually say something of interest.

  the reason i go occasionally is to validate my decision to leave 2 hours at the meeting is enough to convince any normal person with a brain that it is not the truth.. i went this morning.

  it was the same old drivel are your stressed or discouraged?

  Sometimes I go to a meeting…usually when the CO visits in case they actually say something of interest. They never do. The reason I go occasionally is to validate my decision to leave – 2 hours at the meeting is enough to convince any normal person with a brain that it is not the truth.

  I went this morning. It was the same old drivel – ‘Are your stressed or discouraged? Go on the service, study, attend all the meetings, pray’ Then all will be well. No sign of any real attempt to alleviate the suffering of the brothers. Do more and more – if you crack under the strain it’s your own fault for not doing enough!

  Here are some other highlights of the CO’s talk:

  1) Isn’t the universe big? Some figures about how many stars, how far away they are, how much power from the sun, and stars like grains of sand – impressive numbers so must be created by impressive god.

  2) The moon is not like earth – it’s made of glass beads so it reflects light better, a wonderful gift from God – the lesser luminary. (I thought the moon was made of the same stuff as the earth, sounds scientifically dodgy to me)

  3) A sister in Malaysia had worn out shoes but went on the ministry anyway. Someone felt sorry for her and gave her some. Evidence of God caring for his Witnesses if they put Him first (yeah, right).

  4) Lots of kingdom halls being built even in poor countries – evidence of God’s blessing. (how then do other religions manage to get halls/churches built?)

  Plus lots of simplistic stuff which wouldn’t convince anyone who was remotely rational.

  As I thought, they are still mentally, spiritually and emotionally stagnant.

  Dubs can see lord of rings,not harry potter

  interesting how the witnesess once again show a double set of standards with the watching of these two movies.

  harry potter is a definate no no, but watching lord of the rings is ok.. both movies have wizards.

  anyone noticed this?

  This is indeed strange.

  My congregation has no problem with Harry Potter - all the kids have been to see it that want to, including mine. I enjoyed it.
