Hello Kaz.
Just out of interest, how long did you 'lurk' here before you posted?
I was in for all of my childhood and early 20s, so at the age of 42 I can just about say I've been out longer than I've been in!
As for the posts not showing up that's a problem a lot of us have. The 'friends' section isn't quite finished so you'll have to wait a few days for your posts to show up there under normal circumstances. The page you look at if it's bookmarked is the default page which only updates every few days. One way around this is to force your browser to go to the next page manually. If you look at the address bar you will see the word 'default' at the end of the address. Replace this with the number of the next page you want to go to, for example:
jehovahs-witness.com/6/default.ashx becomes jehovahs-witness.com/6/1771.ashx
doing this you can force your browser onto the next page, where your posts probably are. Hope this helps.
friday.
you are worthy, jehovah,to receive the glory.

Dansk,
I have some correspondence from Hilary Benn which you may find of interest.
Immediately after the Panorama episode which dealt with the Jehovah’s Witness problem with paedophiles I contacted my local MP, Patricia Hewitt, to voice my concerns.
It appears that she forwarded my concerns to the Parliamentary Under Secretary Of State, Hilary Benn MP.
This is a copy of the letter she received back, which she forwarded to me.
I have blanked out my name to protect my identity.

i notice that i seldom do.
what about you?
I said family prayers at mealtimes for a long time after I made it clear that I no longer believed in God. I think the point I was trying to make at the time was that anyone can say a prayer (even those superfine brothers at the meeting) and it doesn't mean a jot.
Eventually I said my last prayer and now the family say theirs silently while I start eating (as quietly as I can).
i just got off the phone with a friend of mine and thought i should relay something interesting.
he said at a recent (within the last month) elders school in florida, dos, cos and elders that have been associated for decades are becoming "apostates," leaving the organization and have been dfd!
something that makes me say "hummmm!".
I tend to think something is up recently, maybe some high ranking elders have turned and had some success - my 'ears' pricked up when I read this in the May 15 2003 watchtower:
'If a similar situation threatens the spiritual welfare of the congregation with which we are associated, let us completely reject apostacy and keep on walking in the truth. Since false teachers or individuals leaning toward apostacy can corrupt an entire congregation, we must maintain a firm stand against apostacy, never allowing wicked persuasion to hinder us from obeying the truth.'
i wonder how many here, when put to the test "proved" their loyalty to the organization.
I also did the shunning of family members and friends, but that was not the worst.
My son needed a major operation when he was 18 months old. He could easily have died without a blood transfusion but I signed papers forbiding it. Fortunately, due to the extreme skill of the doctors, he survived.
I was prepared to sacrifice my only son, Abraham style. I passed ultimate test of faith.
Six months later I was out.
just wanted to say hello to everyone.
as i am new here, i have lots of questions for all of you, but will hopefully have them answered over the next few weeks.
anyways, i was in the truth for many years, and suffered horribly from depression.
Hi Shamus, and welcome to the board
Personally, I don't hate people 'in the truth' as you put it. I see them as victims, they can't help what they do; and I have met many wonderful people who are still JWs. What I hate is the religious system that keeps them ensnared so that they are unable to live normal lives, doing normal things; every facet of their lives controlled through 'suggestions' from a handful of senile crackpots in Brooklyn.
I too saw the hypocrisy, the power hungry elders, the control by guilt, and back-biting brothers and sisters. But being one of them at the time I didn't get depressed because I thought it was just our congregation, and Jehovah would sort it out in his own time.
I don't protest outside assembly halls. I even welcome my old friends from the hall when they visit, not bringing up religion unless they mention it. The way I see it is that they have a right to their opinions without me trying to convert them every chance I get. Besides, don't we find that over zealous proselytizing irritating from them?
I did get depressed just before I left, because I realised I had been living a lie all of my life and that I was not going to live forever at all and there was no hope to end mankind's suffering.
I feel much better now, though.
didn't there used to be a belief about the united nations being the king of the north or something?
do they still believe that?
Daniel's Prophecy Book (1999), Pages 280-285:
THE FINAL CAMPAIGN
21. With the disbanding of the Soviet Union in December 1991, the king of the north suffered a serious setback. Who will be this king when Daniel 11:44, 45 is fulfilled? Will he be identified with one of the countries that were part of the former Soviet Union? Or will he change identity completely, as he has done a number of times before? Will the development of nuclear weapons by additional nations result in a new arms race and have a bearing on the identity of that king? Only time will provide answers to these questions. We are wise not to speculate . When the king of the north embarks on his final campaign, the fulfillment of prophecy will be clearly discerned by all who have Bible-based insight.—See “Kings in Daniel Chapter 11,” on page 284.

I went to the special talk too - it was a pile of steaming turds.
Quite a few on the board went, and heard completely different talks.
Sounds like your speaker was a blood and thunder type. I can't believe some of those quotes! They wouldn't dare print some of the things said from the platform eh? It's strange what they can say in the privacy of their kingdom halls but next day if a non-JW asks them if they believe everyone not a JW will be destroyed at the big A they will deny it (and believe their own lies!).
I think that more and more extreme stuff will be passed word of mouth only from the COs downwards from now on - at the behest of the JW lawyers and chickens.
