I think it has to do with this:

What is the meaning of the name Jehovah? In Hebrew, the name Jehovah comes from a verb that means “to become,” and a number of scholars feel that it reflects the causative form of that Hebrew verb. Thus, the understanding of the New World Bible Translation Committee is that God’s name means “He Causes to Become.” Scholars hold varying views, so we cannot be dogmatic about this meaning. However, this definition well fits Jehovah’s role as the Creator of all things and the Fulfiller of his purpose. He not only caused the physical universe and intelligent beings to exist, but as events unfold, he continues to cause his will and purpose to be realized.

Therefore, the meaning of the name Jehovah is not limited to the related verb found at Exodus 3:14, which reads: “I Will Become What I Choose to Become” or, “I Will Prove to Be What I Will Prove to Be.” In the strictest sense, those words do not fully define God’s name. Rather, they reveal an aspect of God’s personality, showing that he becomes what is needed in each circumstance to fulfill his purpose. So while the name Jehovah may include this idea, it is not limited to what he himself chooses to become. It also includes what he causes to happen with regard to his creation and the accomplishment of his purpose.

Thanks Hilde. I will take a look at it. I dont know if you currently go to the KH, but the letter is going to be posted on the board after is read. Maybe you can steal it and scan it and then put it back :-).

I think the change has to be with God's name on Deuteronomy. They explained something like that at the AGM.

Some changes involving our understanding of the meaning of God’s name and what it re p- resents have been made to the first chapter of Draw Close to Jehovah. Because this book will be studied at the Congregation Bible Study beginning the week of January 6, 2014, arrangements have been made to update the text in the digital formats that are available on jw.org by December 31, 2013. Updated files in the EPUB, HTML, MOBI (Amazon Kindle), PDF, and Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY formats will be released simultaneously. The audio recording of chapter 1 also will be redone and released at the same time. If the updated chapter is available in the lan- guage of your congregation, the brothers assigned to conduct or read for the Congregation Bible Study should be sure to use the latest text. Check the publishers’ page for the words “December 2013 Printing” to ensure that you have the latest text. This appears in all electronic copies except the HTML format.

At times, you may notice that the text of publications on jw.org does not match what is in a printed copy of the same publication. Reprinting publications to include updated information can take months or even years. However, the copies on jw.org can be updated more quickly. Therefore, the publication on jw.org will always contain the most up-to-date version of the text. Printed copies of the book Draw Close to Jehovah that contain the aforementioned changes will not be available before the book is studied in the congregations. Therefore, do not request a new printed copy in expectation that it will contain the updated information.

Since this matter is time sensitive, please arrange for this letter to be read to the congre- gation at the first Service Meeting or Watchtower Study after its receipt. Thereafter, it should be posted on the information board.

Pixel: If they made this change months in advance because of the "new understanding of the meaning of God's name", (it's included in their new Bible) why they did not make the change right way? they had a lot of time, not waiting until the last minute.

Who is the faithful and discreet slave?

when i discuss things with my father regarding whether a governing body is needed for christians one theme that is constant with him is "if it's not the gb who is the faithful and discreet slave - who else is giving food in these days to god's people?".

i've been working on a response to this for the last couple of months and am just curious as to who christians who are ex-witnesses interpret the faithful and discreet slave to be, and the parable in general.. .

i guess i'm just looking to round out my argument and have a few different angles.
