I totally understand why Michael Jackson took propofol
by Hortensia ini've had it a couple of times in the hospital.
it's amazing stuff, one second you're awake, the next second you're asleep.
they turn it off, and you immediately wake up.

My husband had propoful when he dislocated his shoulder. As he was going under, he said "I want you all to know if things go ti*s up, don't try to keep me alive. Because I don't like vegetables and I don't want to zzzzzzzz. The doctors were all trying not to laugh. When he woke up he didn't realize everything was over and couldn't figure oh how he got the sling.

1914 - It was the end of the world as we knew it - things got much better!
by TheStumbler ini was having a conversation with a jw relative recently i casually mentioned how much better the world is than a few centuries.
obviously the jw was incredulous.
the next day i found an email in my inbox listing a few qoutes from notable people saying how the world has gotten much worse since 1914 and that 1914 was a pivitol year.

Great information, thanks for posting. I am sure it took a lot of time to pull all this information together. It is a common misconception that things are getter worse in every way. If you watch the news, you typically only hear about the bad things and little about the good things. The Watchtower panders to this by selective quoting and skewing facts and this his appeals to those who are looking for easy answers, the Watchtower confirms their fears and offers all the answers. Then once they get people in, this belief is reinforced to the point that most are unable to take in the actual facts of the situation, even if it is presented to them.

WT Elders school: Look how cute that kindly old elder is! Too bad the Talmud says we have to stone our victim anyway
by sir82 inmore haphazard thougths on the recently concluded elder school..... a big chunk of time was spent on a video which traced a judicial case, all the way from the confession to the elders through the decision to disfellowship the guy.. here is a very brief synopsis of the video:.
tearful late-teen or early-20's publisher confesses to 2 elders that he committed fornication with a "worldly girl" who is now preganant and wants to marry him.
the elders give him some "homework" to do prior to his judcial committee - read psalm 51 and an old wt article.

What a hateful religion. Just in case there may be any kind elders on the JC, the other elders are given a roadmap on how to shut him down. It certainly explains a lot. Instead of giving spiritual advice and council, giving the person a chance to change their conduct, the JC immediately moves to disfellowship, unless the victim meets some unknown criteria for showing repentance. They are only shooting themselves in the foot, they are kicking people out who would probably stay in the religion, given half a chance. Sad. The only good thing about it is that it does wake up some people to the reality of the religion. But they lose contact with their family and friends so its a harsh lesson.

I've been thinking the Bible isn't legitimate--long indoor mat-rant
by sd-7 ini'm not sure where this thought came from (believers will no doubt say 'from satan'), but it has started to coalesce in my brain lately.
i've often referred to the bible and argued from it to debunk jw beliefs, and still tried to consider it as a great piece of literature at the very least.
but as my wife was listening to the meeting on a loud speaker phone at home this weekend, i just had this thought.

Belief that the Bible is God's word is like a house of cards. To become a JW, you must first accept that the Bible is God's word. Once you accept that, your belief is constantly reinforced by meetings, reading the literature, association with other believers, etc. When a thought come up that something in the Bible might not be right, those thoughts are easily dismissed, because of your past experience as a JW.
But once you allow a thought like this to actually develop, once you stop and sit with that thought, once you do the unthinkable, use critical judgement, the whole belief system crashes like a deck of cards. If any part of the Bible is not true, and could not be God's word, then none if it is. You realize it is all just something written down by different people many years ago. It contains some wisdom, some history, some errors and some stupidity. It is just a book, or rather a series of books.

Would YOU Have Died For The Witness Religion?
by minimus inwould you have not taken a blood transfusion or a transplant because the gb said it was bad?.
would you have imitated the jws in concentration camps and died for your beliefs?.

Tiki: well.....i lived in terror of the concentration camp thing having had a great-uncle and his wife who survived it....i developed a massive panic anxiety disorder and if circumstances did not evolve the way they did i would have been dead long ago (slowly suicidal, anorexic, which sufficiently damaged me so that at this time in life i have a couple rather serious issues) thankfully a wonderful man came into my life and saved me.
My daughter was very young, 6 or 7 when the yearbook came out about the concentration camps and the JWs. She obsessed about being put in a concentration camp for a year or so. I know now this was not appropriate material for a child her age, but then the Bible stories book isn't either. She became suicidal later, who knows if these things contributed or not. She is OK now, never got baptized so escaped the Borg.
I would have died for Jehovah, yes. I don't have a fear of death, and I was the martyr type anyway. Not now, I have learnedly to trust my own judgement more than anyone else's, so I wouldn't throw my life away because of some delusional men in Brooklyn.

Christ Alone, that was exactly what I was going to say. That is one horrible web design. I could do a better job than that. The orange is way too intense, hard on the eyes.

I grew up not fearing old age
by Sour Grapes inas a teenage jw, i grew up believing that i was not going to finish high school nor would i get old and have to die like my grandparents did.
well, i did finish high school, as did my children and my grandchildren and old age has not been kind to me.
i don't like to look at pictures from 40 years ago, from a time when i was healthy and i had the goal of "stay alive till 75.

Like many of you I thought I would never grow old. I didn't go to college because I "wouldn't have time for a career in this system of things". I am 58 now, that was a lie, obviously. Still I cant complain too much. I had a pretty good job for someone with no college - systems analyst. I realized the value of a 401k, even while a JW. Unfortunately much of that was in company stock, in a company that cooked the books and all that stock became worthless, plus I lost my job. Fortunately when I left the JWs I was contacted by the "worldly" guy I wouldn't date in high school. We fell in love and got married. He is very good with money, so I don't have to worry about finances. At the end of the day, I have a pretty good life. I think whether you grew up a JW or not, you probably have both good and bad things happen. The trick is to rise above the bad and appreciate the good. While I regret becoming a JW, I am happy now, and I intend to enjoy every minute of my remaining life.

Loosing Your Religion
by ballistic inchanging your religion for another or completely loosing your religion and or your belief in god, or turning to an agnostic point of view is really quite a big change.
for not wanting to state the obvious, when you change your religion, it changes not just the concept of religion in your mind, but your entire world view, or the way you perceive things work in the universe.
how does such an enormous change happen?.

My experience was that the longer I was out the less hold that the JW mindset had over me. When you first leave, you may have already decided this isn't the truth. But you thinking has been changed and molded by the mind control of the JWs in many ways. When I left I still didn't believe in evolution. After a number of years, my thinking had changed and logic (not mind Control) took over. I think the younger your are, the faster the change, but that is just a guess on my part.

Hi! Life story of young, 23-year-old (gay), disassociated, non-baptized publisher
by HillCountry inhello, this is my first post and the first time i have told my entire story, albeit abridged, to anyone.
it will be a long story, sorry.. my grandparents were brought up with different religious backgrounds but converted to bible students around the depression era.
later, my grandfather met my grandmother through the congregation and got married until his death, having a marriage that lasted over four decades.

Thanks for sharing your story and welcome. I am so glad you were smart enough to not get baptized. I think you will do very well in life, you seem very intelligent and mature. After growing up a gay JW and successfully managing to get out of the cult, you are probably up for any challenge.
