The bible says in 1 Cor 13:5 " Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you-- unless indeed you fail the test?" The WTBTS constantly reinforces the idea that we are incapable of thinking for ourselves, that we need their direction in what to think do and say. This is nonsense, Jehovah gave us a brain and he ability to think, he expects us to them. . It is a falacy that once we may have determined that God was working the WTBTS, we should stop thinking and obey their guidance without question. This notion of complete obedience is common to all high control religions AKA cults. This is a huge red flag. The so called "unity" of the JWs is a false unity, achieved by indoctrinating people to let the TBTS think for them. True Christian unity is not achieved by threats of shunning.

Rebuttals for having an independent attitude or spirit.
by Emery ini am looking for rebuttals on this statement.
i find it reprehensive when they preach this from the platform, they do not want jws (who are individuals) to have any individuality.
they want people to be their personal robots with no free will.

I'd love to meet, I dont care if it's a group or individually. The supper club sounds great, but I have fatigue issues, so I dont go out much at night, espicially if I have to drive, but keep me informed, I may be able to make it, depending on where and when.
If you want to meet me for tea, just let me know, there is a nice tea place near the Berkeley Shattuck station

Experimenting With New Ideas since leaving the WT
by lovelylil ini have always been intrigued about why we dream and recently signed up for a course on dream interpretation.
the course includes a great book written by sigmund freud.. this would have been oh soo taboo if i was still in the borg.
probably would have been df'd for it.. was wondering how many others out there have studied a subject or experimented with new ideas that "mother" would not have approved of since leaving the org, and what you learned from it?

I believe our dreams are just our subconscious, so I never really considered trying to understand our dreams as being wrong, even when I was a dub. I don't feel it has anything to do with spiritism or anything like that.
I was afraid to meditate though, and now I do it all the time. I have ADD, and it helps to calm down my busy brain and keep me more focused. Aamazingly, not once have I been attacked by demons, lol. I have found that when I meditate, I seem to have more vivid dreams, or maybe I just remember more of them. Instead of just being random and disjointed, my dreams seem to be more like a movie, with a beginning and an end and a plot that seems to tie it all together.

Your vs You're....Its vs It's....There vs Their..
by Terry inwriting and speaking is all about communication.. if we are casually engaged the level of precision vanishes.
simple ideas=simplified language.. but, as we attempt to convey accuracy, specificity and numerical precision--what then?
without a clear standard is proper communication headed for extinction?.

It does bothers me a bit when people use your instead of you're, but I don't correct them, as it just seems pointless. I don't want to be the grammar police, and they either picked it up in school or they didn't, they aren't going to change at this point. As long as I understand what they are saying, I'm good. I am sure I make my share of mistakes on other things.
Just in case anyone is not sure which to use, try substituting "you are". If the sentence still makes sense, use "you're". if not, stick with "your".
It's your blue car. It's you are blue car. Nope, it doesn't make sense, stick with "your"
Your going to make a mistake. You are going to make a mistake. "You are" sounds good, change to "you're"
I just try to remember that there are people who are possibly bothered by mistakes I make, and I probably would not want them to correct me, so I try to ignore the mistake a of others.

Apostates are narrow-minded victims of brainwashing who believe everything they read
by cedars inor so says the person who left this comment on jwsurvey.org.... what just amazes me is how people can pass judgement on others, make vast sweeping statements and make out that they know best.
this isnt just based on this page, but other pages ive read on this website.
while youre at it why not just say all black people are criminals, all asians are rapists and all white people molest their children.

jhine, Cedars was reposting something that another person had posted on his website. He actually believes the opposite of that poster, he was showing how wrong they are. This board is mostly for people who are current or former Jehovah's Witnesses who do not now believe in what the Watchtower teaches. We know that they take things out of context and misquote things, You are preaching to the choir on that issue. Stick around and read more, you may find some useful information
Cedars, I know you can simply delete this post, but I think it is good to have an opposing viewpoint, It will make your website seem more valid. You could either respond to this poster, or leave it and let others respond. If a current Jehovah's Witness comes to your website, they might be more inclined to stay if they see that it is not all just "apostate" viewpoints. Of course it is your website, so it's your decision. I find that when pro JWs post in forums they usually do more harm than good, they just show how ignorant they are.

My Jw mother hates me and always has
by 20yearfader ini just need to vent, you see i was a born in.it's taken me 20 years after fading from the org to finally get my mind free from the wt dogma.i was on the phone with my aunt today and the subject of my mother her older sister came up.now mind you i haven't spoken to my mother in a month or so after my daughter stayed the weekend at her house and she was being tag teamed about the hall and how i took a vow to jehovah and i'm a failure and i'll be destroyed at armagedon.this exchange upset my daughter so much that she was near the point of tears when she returned home and she hasnt spoken to my mother or father since.anyway back to the conversation with my aunt, she let it slip that my mother told her that she wished she had let the seamen that fertilized the egg that produced me had slid down her legnno bear in mind i can remember as a child running into her room playing and she would say to me as a 7 year old child "i wished i had left you in oblivion"this is one of many such saying my mother had for me......i wasn't a bad child i just wasn't allowed to do anything such as going outside going over a friends house....etc,i have struggled for years as to why this woman hates me so.i got baptized at 15 really as a way of pleasing them what the hell does a child know at 15??
?granted it took me some time to get myself together and put those hurtful comments in the past, but today when my aunt let it slip about what my mother has said about me it was like pulling a scap off of a wound.my wife always complains about how im emotionless and distance, this was done by me as a way of protecting myself.so i've decided and i hate to say this that my christian god fearing parents...are dead to me there is no way i can have a relationship with people that are so wicked and since she never wanted me anyway....it works out for the best thx i just needed to vent i felt like i was going to pop..

I think you should get therapy to help you get through this. Your mom tore up her mother card. She is a pathetic, sad individual, the hurtful words she says are showing you what she is like on the inside. Her religious beliefs which should help her be a loving person, instead gives her an excuse to be judgemental and cruel. I suggest you write a letter to her, telling her how her actions have hurt you, and that s you are firing her as your mom. You don't even need to send it, as it won't help her any, she is beyond help, but it might help you.

gets stranger with time
by d ini am noticing that as time goes times on, the jw's become more stranger.
they seem a whole more distant at least to me.. what do you think..
-
LisaRose
They seem stranger to me, but I have been out 12 years, and I think I really didn't fit in the 10 years before that, so at this point my thinking is very different fro the average JW. At some point, you know what you know, and from then on you are a square peg in a round hole. I can't even imagine sitting through a two hour brain washing session at this point in my life. I understand the thought processes of the average JW, possibly more than they understand themselves, but I can see in what ways they are barking up the wrong tree.

Sickening Dilemma
by ItsMyLife ini would like to have your opinions on what i should do about a situation please.. i have recently discovered that a 'brother' in the congregation (which i no longer attend) is a child molester.
i've seen documentation from his psychiatrist dated a few years ago, stating that he doesn't feel that this person is likely to offend again.
the 'brother' has said to the elders at some point that he has it under control but cannot be 100% sure it won't happen again.

I had a friend whose child was molested by a brother. He confessed and was reproved. He later got engaged to a sister with young children. My fried tried to warn the mother, she didn't care, and my friend got a reprimanded by the elders.
I think you must warn the sister, You cannot count on the elders doing the right thing. You should do it anonymous my if there is any chance it could be traced back to you. I doubt the police can do anything unless you have the name of the victim, dates, etc.

Which Fits the Facts... Evolution or Creation?
by dorayakii ini recently dug up my old copy of the "creation" book, which i haven't looked at for almost 7 years.
as i was flicking through, i caught a glimpse of the table on page 112 and remembered how at the time it thoroughly convinced me that evolution was not factual...
time and experience has passed, and i now agree more with the evolutionary side of the arguement... so i was thinking of various ways to refute what seemed to me at the time to be water-tight reasoning.

I remember one point from the evolution book that said that the eye could not evolve, because a partial eye would not be a genetic advantage, as unless it was complete, it would be useless. Then I read about a very primitive fish that lives deep in the ocean. It does not have an eye as we know it, but a much simpler and primitive version that lets it discern light and dark, and so it can detect motion. This primitive eye does give it an advantage, as it can avoid predators.
